Just got into the game

Hello all Skull fellows I'm a new member here but that's not important right now. I brought Skullgirls (and all the DLC along with it.) From the recent Steam Summer Sale and instantly fell in love with it. Now that schools over (which actually is over the day I'm posting this.) I have more time to play the game. I'm interested in Fukua, Squigly, and not sure about the third character but possibly Big Band, Cerebella, and maybe Valentine. I've done a few online matches which ended in me getting my butt kicked but I did win one so I guess that's an accomplishment. So anyone have any tips about the game I should know of before really diving in deep? And incase anyone ask I only have Skullgirls on Steam, not consoles.

EDIT: Beowulf is also another character I'm interested in.

1. Go through the tutorial.
2. Play whoever you want.
3. Play to learn, not to win.
4. Watch match videos.
5. Look for steam groups and players near you, and play them a lot.

I'd recommend just sticking with two characters for now. That way you can learn to use assists and you'll have a decent amount of health to rely on without overwhelming yourself with three characters. Also, don't focus on combos. Learn the mechanics of the game and your characters (and instead of learning long combos, just learn sneaky resets, they'll be much more useful).

Also, find someone willing to play with you and give you advice as well as someone around your skill level who you can spar with.

The first thing I'd recommend doing is checking out the Beginner Resources section. (After completing the in game tutorial)

You can post some info in the Beginner Match Finder Thread if you're looking to play with people your skill level.

As far as general tips? There's so much to cover!
Make sure you play through the tutorial and understand it. It's a very helpful tutorial with lots to cover.

Don't get too down about losing and try and learn from your mistakes.
If you have any one liner questions you can always post them in the Beginner Questions Thread.

You can get a pretty controlled environment by opening up a lobby for two people, and then playing against your opponent a bunch over and over.
If you feel the person is WAY outside your skill level (to the point where you cannot touch them) then you can always kick the opponent by hovering over their name and pressing LK.

If you want a place to talk about your gameplay, teams, experience, and improvement you can always start a Training Diary, which even really good players do.

-Right now avoid quick match like the plague. There's no skill ranking system. Do beginner lobbies.
-Don't worry about optimal combos. Just do something that is consistent and ends in a super.
-Feel free to friend people slightly better than you or around the same skill level. Most people would be happy to have new training partners.

Thanks! Yea I've gone through most of the tutorial not all of it though, I'll stay with Fukua and Squigly for now since I seem easy for me to use especially when it comes to remembering inputs (I sometime forget inputs in fighting games so that kind of brings me down a little but I try my best not to forget) I don't really get frustrated or depressed as I used to when it came to online in fighting games because it would just make me think I'm really bad at the game, luckily I learned what fighting sticks were so I use one now and it's definitely better than a pad.

I'll make sure to check the Beginner Match Finder Thread after this post, and yes I avoided Quick Match's and joined beginner lobbies. I'll make sure to drop something in case I have another question. Thanks for the replies!

- Play preferably single player modes and in beginners lobbies rather than quick matches who will end rapidly frustrating.
