I normally avoid watching anime that hasn't finished airing, but I make a few exceptions for stuff like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. I wasn't going to watch this until it was done, but a friend of mine bugged me until finally I ended up watching the first episode, and got hooked within the first 3 minutes.

acid trip that is all
That's part of what I like about it. There haven't really been too many recent anime I liked as much as this one. The pace is really (extremely) fast and usually I like that. Hopefully it continues to get better. I have little else to look forward too besides the new season of JJBA and the ner Fate/Kalied Liner Prisma Illya (and what I'm really waiting on is the 3rd manga to be adapted.)

yeah i love triggers work i watched gurren, psg
That's Gainax, but i think its pretty much the same people

So episode 3.

Like, this episode was bigger than most anime's conclusions.
It had that same holy shit what the hell oh my god my dick my dicccccck hype as those ones...

IN EPISODE 3

i managed to catch episode 3 and now i have a few different expectations for Mako, since she's probably the funniest character in show and displays an insane amount of fearlessness (or obliviousness) in the face of serious danger:

Either:
1. She somehow gets her own Kamui and helps Ryuko kick ass.
2. She gets killed off as a signal that the story arc is about to get way too real.
3. First 1, then 2.

Mako is final boss.

I haven't been able to get this show out of my mind since I watched the first episode. Everything about it is completely up my alley.

WINNING WITH FRIENDSHIP MEANS WINNING AT LIFE.

I love that they completely play the fanservice straight. The damn characters IN THE SHOW even comment and notice it, lol

WAITING A WHOLE WEEK FOR NEW EPs IS TORTURE I TELL YOU!

And they do it both ways too, so any sexism complaints are pretty much void.

It's anti-slut shaming, too. They aren't sluts because they wear those clothes, it's their choice!

SEE! WHY ARE TUMBLRINAS MAD? IT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT.

Mako's segments are so much win.

I feel like the big reveal was really ham handed, way too much dialogue. Made it sound preachy and kinda artificial, like "we know you all think this is needlessly sexy so here are our reasons" which is not the right direction.

but holy shit when the scissor blade extended I was squeeing

PS Trigger's online store has an official newsletter in English if you guys didn't know already. They go over some key art from the previous episode every week.

Thanks for the link!
Easily my favorite anime probably this entire year when looking back on things.

Well, this anime feels like a mix of some things that made Heartcatch Precure good, and then put it on crack.

And Satsuki Kiryuuin is the best! Ahhh, that sexy voice~

there was an episode today

is sure was . . . something?

mako is the still hilarious

It may have been filler, but it was HILARIOUS filler. Senketsu is the funny character. And Guts had his time to shine.

It was predictable at first, but the second half through some hilarious twists in there!

... I never thought of it like that.
If so, that's genius.
Now keep in mind, if the animation is bad next episode, I'm going to assume the first 3 episodes ate their budget. I just really, really want it to be a reference to that Gurren Lagann episode cause the alternative is...bad.

So, I've decided to watch this finally and it's definitely worth it.

Kill la Kill is a throwback to the kick-butt heyday of anime yore, inspired by the bad girls, street punks and no-nonsense awesomeness of classic 80's anime. Though the title is a head-scratcher in English, it's actually quite punny in Japanese --- pronounced "kiru" instead of "kill", it means both "to cut" and "to wear" in the original Japanese, which is the general gist of the show: cutting clothing, or in this case, super-powered school uniforms that allow a despotic student council president (Satsuki Kiryuin) to lead a ruthless organization of clubs and students to rule over Honnouji Academy.

Whether it's the free-wheeling animation, the frenetic pacing, the atmospheric world-building, or the intense energy that drives this series, everything about Kill la Kill is pushed to the absolute edge (even the fanservice!) But it all boils down to one all-encompassing, all-describing, all-too-appropriate word: fun. This series is a LOT of fun to watch, and by the time you pick your jaw up off the floor, you're smacked in the face again --- one, two, three times! and another wave of awesome, high-octane action knocks you out of the ring. I just can't get enough of it!

What's old is new again, and the spirit of classics like Project A-ko, Cutie Honey, Sukeban Deka, Otokojuku and other series of the Showa era are brought back to life in a modern work that borrows the best of the old-age sensibilities and cranks them up to eleven with the technical skill and finesse of a new era ready to deliver the goods!

Kill la Kill comes with my highest recommendation. Go watch it!

Episode 3 had at least three Gainax references in it. The first is the design on Satsuki's Junketsu. I'm certain it's a throwback to GunBuster.

The second is the fight scene. It gives me a Panty & Stocking episode 6 vibe.

And the last one is the face off between Satsuki and Ryuko. It's another point to Gurren Lagann.

It might just be that I'm a pretentious douche but I also see quite a bit of intellegent use of fanservice to advance their characterization.

Maybe, but it's still fanservice regardless.

there was a new episode today

it was pretty good

Sweet jesus, that episode was more emotional than I thought. The action was cool too. That new character is awesome.
I love this show so much.

Let me tell you two pieces of useful information. One: This show takes a theme and never stops rolling with it. The spool grenades. The needle bullets. Two: I need the OST in my pants right the fuck now.

Episode 5 for 2nd best episode yet? Love this new character, finally getting to see some of the generals at the academy, and a serious scene that doesn't fall apart. The only thing I don't like is the silly Mako speech every episode, it stopped being funny in episode 3.

How did I miss this...
