Finally, love me some MLP.
I had the fortune of seeing Equestria Girls a few weeks ago.
It was pretty ok, didn't see any harm in it.
It got REALLY weird at the end, what with the magical girl transformations and fucking demons
 
I'm not really a fan of MLP, but I have a firend who loves it, so I've seen a few episodes. It's not bad, not very good either though IMO.
 
I adore MLP. It's not my favorite cartoon of all time mind you, but it's the only show that I have ever seen that has made me want to give every character a hug. :D

I've been kind of laying off of it since the third season ended, aside from the comics and Equestria Girls, but I'm looking forward to season 4.

I enjoy the show. I haven't kept up with it since the second season ended though.

On the seriousness though, I'm a big fan of MLP. I haven't watched an episode lately nor I have watched Equestria Girls (EqG characters really creeps me out).

But considering season 4 is coming out pretty soon, I guess I might have something to do now in the coming months. Oh the season 4 hype!
 
"Friendship is Magic" isn't my favorite cartoon, but I won't deny that I think it's a good one.
 
Welp, I was a part of the thread before the big explosion so I guess I can post again. My status as a brony hinges on whether or not season 4 makes me hate Alicorn Twilight. My hope is that at least 80% of the episodes are centered around thetrue main character Pinkie Pie.

Lately I have a big problem between choosing Twilight Sparkle and Fluttershy. :P Voted for Twilight because of my fav episode Lesson Zero. I didn't watch yet Equestria Girls and I'm so far pretty neutral to the whole thing.
 
I put this stuff in spoilers because some of it is loooooong winded.

My first time learning about the show:
My initial experience with the show was... slightly different than most others.

Technically, the first that I heard of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was from the VG Cats comic about it, which included some stuff from the VG Cats writer basically saying that the show is actually pretty good (the comic, ironically, was taken down due to backlash from bronies).

I ignored it, mostly because I didn't get the comic, and I mostly skimmed the thing written about how the show was good. The show really grabbed my attention when almost every single new thread on The Escapist was about it, and how it was actually really, really good.

At this point, most stories like this have a "I thought there was NO WAY a show about My Little Pony could be watchable yadda yadda yadda babby show yadda yadda yadda meant for little girls", you know the drill.

My response was actually more like, "Wow, a community full of geeky gamer nerds are excited about this new MLP... I'M a geeky gamer nerd! If the reaction is this huge, from The Escapist community no-less, there's probably something to this show".

So I watched the first episode, making sure not to let anyone know I was watching it (it was still My Little Pony), and... it was pretty darn good, which, at the time, was all it needed to be for me to get hooked. It was a show that, as "SEVERAL" individuals have pointed out to me in the past, was meant for younger girls, but the humor, characters, environments, art style, and the clever deconstruction and reconstruction of its own genre really made it work. For me to like it, it did not need to be any more revolutionary than "this is a show about a girly thing, but it is actually good".

Overall current opinion on the show:
I love MLP: FiM. It started as a good show that should have been terrible, but progressed into a show that is truly amazing... that should have been terrible. It has amazing art, music (those songs!!!), settings, and, most importantly, characters, character interaction, and character development. The show's appeal, to me, comes from its characters, who almost feel alive and real because of how well they are written, voiced, and animated. Watching the show, you can really feel the bond that the Mane 6 share, which is not an easy feat when writing a story, or show, or game, or whatever.

Also, not as important to the show's quality, but I personally really like the world building the show commits to, such as the whole "ponies control the weather" thing. The idea of the denizens of the pony society being the driving force for the seasons and weather really appeals to me, as it gives the setting a uniqueness to it and brings it to life in a way that I really did not expect to see from a cartoon such as this.

I cannot wait for Season 4.

Best Superior Greatest-and-Most-Powerful of the Mane Six My Personal Favorite Pony:
My favorite pony? Twilight Sparkle for certain. My being a HUUUUUUUGE Tara Strong fanboy has a lot to do with it, but I also really adore well-written "adorkable nerd" characters such as Twilight, I love Twilight's character development and conflicts even more so than the other Mane 6, and... well... Tara Freaking Strong voices her, what do you want from me?!?

Equestria Girls:
I have not watched it, and in all honesty, I really don't want to. I hated the idea of Equestria Girls from the start, but the idea of it being the first actual MLP movie, rather than an MLP movie with only ponies, AND the fact that it was delaying the release of Season 4, AND Spike was turned into a dog in it, only made it worse. After awhile, though, I just felt apathetic about the whole thing. So long as the Flashlight ship does not become a "thing", I can simply ignore and forget Equestria Girls. I might end up watching it eventually, but I would not count on it.

I was on the same boat. Then I eventually watched and honestly quite enjoyed it. I'd say give it a try.

At worst it will be a wasted 70 minutes.
At medium - some voice acting from the crew you know and love that you wouldn't hear otherwise.
And at best, like me, you may find that seeing the same characters in a completely different setting wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Also, songs. Hey hey, everybody, we've got something to say...
 
Equestria Girls was pretty good. Cheesy, but good.

Applejack is my fav Mane 6 pony. Actually, the whole Apple Family is awesome!

YES! I can't wait to see what they're going to do with their current project. It sucks that they got shut down, but it looks like things are working out well for them.
 
I haven't watched or cared about the show in a long time, but my favorite is still and will always be Rarity...

Equestria Girls was some good shit though, I laughed so much during it.

Fun Fact: Kimlinh was going to be Rarity in Fighting is Magic.

But yeah, I'm still looking forward to the game even without ponies. I've seen what Mane6 is capable of doing, and I'm excited to see what they manage to do with the Z engine and a new IP.
 
The spirit of the original cast will still be in the game. All the characters will be non-pony versions of the mane six after all.

That being said, I can for example look at this, recognize both the move and the facial expression as Applejack's elbow drop from Fighting is Magic and infer "Yup, the cow is AJ all right".

Since movesets were already defined in the beta, it shouldn't be too hard to tell which new char is which pony deep down.

Only the moves will be similar. They want these characters to be all their own. So some characters could have different personalities than the pony their moves resemble. At least, that's the impression I got from their posts.
 
Equestria Girls wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It had its share of problems, but the songs were probably the best part.

Ever since the season 3 finale, my attitude to new episodes is best described as caution. An instinctive inner buffer saying the less hype I get, the less will the disappointment sting. The season 4 premiere promo shows

which in itself is more than I realistically expected, but then my main thought about it is "please don't blow it". I guess I can't get over the alicorn thing, though Equestria Girls showed me good can still be done despite it happening.
 
I cannot describe how relieved I was to find out that, not only was Twilight's immediate mastery of flight retconned in Equestria Girls, but they will actually be doing the "Rainbow Dash Teaches Twilight How to Fly" episode. For that reason (and because of the animatic preview thing's reveals), I am looking forward to this season.

Kinda OT: Who here has tried Mega Pony yet? I watched my brother play it, and it looked HARD!!! Anyone who gets through Cloudsdale on their first go, I envy you.

I played it back when it had only 3 bosses ready, RD included. It wasn't that hard IMO I think original Mega Mans are way harder.
