I'm really glad with the "baby steps" thing at the end, I was pleasantly surprised the show went with that kind of ending. I know my share of being shy and I was happy the authors didn't go with a very optimistic yet unrealistic resolution where over the course of a single song the whole shyness and stage fright goes away just like that. The way they went, it both encouraged shy people but also gave them hope if they find overcoming their fear a hard thing, which it is.
PS. More Flutterguy, hell yes.

I am so glad I have made it a policy of mine to go into each episode knowing as little about it as possible. I loved the new episode so much.
After Pinkie Pride, I was pretty much certain that there weren't going to be any episodes this season that I loved more than Rarity Takes Manehatten. I am so glad I was wrong.
Episode Spoilers:
The humor was slightly more spot on than usual (which is saying a lot; seriously, rewatch that scene with Applejack and Big Mac, it killed me), the animation kept to the new standard that this season has set (in other words, it was fantastic), the plot did not ignore the "why not magic the problem away" option (and actually used it to their benefit with a nice callback to Season 1), the song Got the Music in You is probably my favorite song of the season besides Hearts Strong as Horses, and, as Muro mentioned, ending with the "baby steps" line was the perfect way to end it. No one overcomes stage fright of that magnitude in a day; I know this from experience.
The one thing that did weaken the episode for me, and to some, really hurt it, was Pinkie Pie making Fluttershy cry, not once, but TWICE. I am among those willing to believe that her actions were a genuine, in-character mistake within that contained no intent of making Fluttershy more upset, but it was still rather jarring to see it happen... TWICE.
That flaw is the only thing about the episode that is making me even question calling it my favorite episode of the season.
I've lost a lot of interest in the last year. Watched the season 4 premier and kind of forgot about it. Would it be worth binge watching after the season is over?
I've never binged an entire season of a show, so I wouldn't know, but if that's your thing, I'd guess that it would be worth it. This has been a really great season so far.

I generally hate waiting for these types of things, and jumping in halfway through doesn't feel right.
How many episodes into this season are they?
The one thing that did weaken the episode for me, and to some, really hurt it, was Pinkie Pie making Fluttershy cry, not once, but TWICE. This is my biggest annoyance with season 3 and 4. They have changed Pinkie's personality almost completely. Heck, in 'Griffon the Brush Off' she wouldn't even let Rainbow Dash prank Fluttershy. So to make her cry twice in one episode is really out of character. And I also felt that in the first two seasons, she wasn't afraid to show her strangeness but she didn't have it on full blast all the time. She had mature moments, she could be quiet when needed, and could make people happy in other ways than being loud and over the top (wasn't that the lesson in 'A Friend in Deed'?). Now she's just totally insane. They pretty much threw out any character development and turned her into the generic goofy, 4th-wall-breaking character (as generic as those go).
Then again, I'm talking about the personality and character development of a talking pink pony in a childrens' cartoon show. I might be looking to deeply into this.

I loved "Filli Vanilli" by the way, maybe my favorite episode this season so far. I like Fluttershy, so it doesn’t surprise me much, but given how some episodes I really anticipated in season four bored me, it was suprising how good this one turned out.
The return of Flutterguy and thus the Poison Joke was just excellent; I never expected the episode to take that route. I thought it would be just Fluttershy taking the spot of one singer, being really scared about it, but gets over it in the last minute. Like Dragonshy without the dragon. But it’s so much better. Also: The knockoffs to previous episodes are just exploding here. I couldn’t help myself but laugh when Cheerilee faked the fainting while watching Big Mac sing. Big Mac himself, just awesome. I like how they keep the running gag with Big Mac doesn’t say much, but he sings now as well.

First, children's shows about talking ponies are SERIOUS BUSINESS! Don't you forget that! :P
I believe Pinkie Pie's is an issue shared by Rainbow Dash and Spike: certain writers don't know how to write them as well as other writers. Post-season 1, we generally get an even split of episodes where each of these characters are written really, really well, clearly by someone who "gets" them, and episodes that don't necessarily "Flanderize" them, but still overemphasize their respective negative qualities a little too much.
My favorite episode, to this day, is still Hurricane Fluttershy. Among MANY other things I loved about the episode (up to and including a hilarious training montage, the introduction of several new background pony character models, and a strong message that really resonated with me), I really appreciated that RD and Angel Bunny were written significantly better than they had been for most of season 2. The fandom was really distraught at the time that RD was being written as too arrogant and immature, and Angel Bunny was written as the devil. This episode, with a nice use of "show, don't tell" animation, really managed to express each character as more than what some of their weaker characterizations had painted them as.
With the current season, I believe that the number of episodes with strong characterization are greatly outweighing those without, and I suspect that the writers are getting better in this regard with each new season, so I am not too worried about this being a real issue going further.
I like the show. I remember first hearing about it and thinking, "ugh. My Little Pony..."
Then I heard from a lot of people on the internet about how good it was. Especially amongst guys. So, I decided to give it a shot.
First two episodes I thought "This wasn't bad. Not great, but not bad either". Then I decided to watch the next episode. Then the next episode. Then the next episode. Then the next episode. Then the next episode...
Needless to say I fell in love with the show. The characters were all entertaining and well written, and the show seems to strike a pretty decent balance when it comes to being a kid's show and something that adults could watch.
Personally, I feel like the show is losing it's steam a bit as of now. I didn't think Season 3 was all that great and so far some of the episodes in Season 4 didn't sit too well with me. Of course, the season isn't over yet, so I'll reserve judgement.
I haven't watched Equestria Girls, but from what I've heard, I didn't miss much.
All in all, I like the show and it's definitely proved to me that anything, even if it's something like "My Little Pony" has the potential to be REALLY good.
According to Meghan McCarthy’s mysterious string of numbers which is actually a list of episodes in season 4 which will have songs, there will be one in this episode.
Given who much I loved the "Flim Flam Brothers Song", even heard it on CD while driving, I can’t wait to hear this one.
I just realized something. In Skullgirls, you can have Double in a team, say on the second on third position. Pick the backer rainbow palette, set PP for the custom assist. Start the match, call in Double assist. Bam, your assist is rainbow dash.
Okay guys, today’s episode… kinda good I guess, but IMO not really great. The only thing that got stuck in my head after seeing this:

These very short temporary transformations just scream "Merchandising!" to me. I know the show is basically nothing other than one entire big commercial, but it’s good enough that you don’t notice it most of the time. But today… yeah, Twilight has a spell for everything and 6 additional Breezies make a huge difference, don’t they? And you thought Pinkie’s voice couldn’t go any higher.
And am I the only one who wanted a cameo of Mr. Breezy? I thought what was given to happen in this episode, what a bummer.

Mr. Breezy could have saved the day! A breeze from his fans would have got them home! Or they could have carried the breezies. I dunno.
Overall, I didn't really like the episode. The scene with Rarity's sequin dress was kinda funny, and the Dr. Whooves thing was pretty nifty. The rest of it was meh, though. And the breezy transformation was bad, in my opinion.
eqg wasn't as bad as the fandom thought it to be. i hated the idea of equestria girls thinking after the movie hasbro was going to make a cartoon series .after watching it on youtube i thought it was ok could have been way better but yeah .
There was a couple of really spot on jokes in the beginning (the callback to the cheer scene, the sequin dress, etc), the overall setup was nice, and the message was pretty good, but I felt the episode was one of the weakest of the season, primarily because the Breezies simply weren't very cute, interesting, unique, or memorable.
To explain, I am usually quite excited when a new species is introduced in the show, as many of them are incredibly cute, cool, and/or dangerous as all heck, with interesting designs and personalities to create these traits. When I first saw the breezies, however, I thought "so they're just pony pixies. That's it. Ugh", and as the episode progressed, the Breezies proved to simply be... not that remarkable. The episode could have been stronger simply by making the breezies more distinct as an original species in the MLP universe. It was a decent episode overall, but not great.
Somepony to Watch Over Me:
...not much to say. Season 4 has had an oddly large number of episodes that were just... pretty darn good. Whenever I try to talk to friends about these episodes, the conversations usually amount to "the plot was good, the lesson was good, the humor was funny, the characterization was fine" and end there. That is, once again, where I am at with this episode.
The plot was good, the lesson was good, the humor was funny, and I felt that Applejack becoming that overprotective of Applebloom was within her character, given the scenario.
