If we want to go in-depth here...
IMO it's Froakie > Finnekin > Chespin as far as actual usefulness goes.
If you had access to secret abilities somehow, chespin would move up one. Although they're all very usable this time, none of them are in the "level up fast but have terrible stats" group.

For the kanto starters:
In X: Charmander > Bulbasaur > Squirtle
In Y: Bulbasaur > Squirtle > Charmander (Mega Charizard Y kind of needs a sun team to back him up.)
Although they're all really good honestly. The reason squirtle is last is because most of his utility comes from rapid spin, which is trash in single player, but he can still do decently as a bulky water attacker. Venusaur is a better bulky attacker. Mega charizard X is hax.

I would say take Froakie, Bulbasaur and Torchic since all of the kanto starters are good so that choice is pretty irrelevant, Greninja is fast and great, and Blaziken is probably the best non-legendary pokemon in the game.
 
After seeing how weak Charizard is to Stealth rock, my love for him waned. exponentially.

Mega Charizard X. Fire/Dragon. You just have to open with him so that he can mega evolve before stealth rock gets used.

Well take into account that now Stealth Rock is nerfed slightly.

Neutral = 10% (Normally 12.5%)
2x = 20% (25%)
4x = 40% (40%)

While that means that Charizard can switch in a whopping TWO TIMES and still get some moves off if you're dumb enough not to carry Rapid Spin, he's slightly more useful... Slightly... (Also consider that if your Charizard had an odd HP total you could survive two switch ins with 1 hp left, but not getting hit... Good luck with that)

300+ pokemon available in the main game. It's pure beauty. And this trend continues into XY.

To be fair, hail teams aren't really bad.

They are just outclassed in most ways by what other weathers can do.

Pretty much, no need to run hail when Politoed and TTar exist.
 
Well... I think I've done everything story wise in the game, so I need to start working on competitive shiz. Don't know anyone with a ditto safari yet, or even have ideas for teams. Someone here does have a fire safari, and in that safari is a Magmar and Braixen, so I love you.
(Also don't know what my safari is... I imagine it is underwhelming...)
(I have electric type safari with Helioptile, Pachirisu, and Galvantula)

Reached a key point in the story.

Just want to say that i understand Lysandre, and he's one of the best villains Game Freak made for the Series (N is a wussy and doesn't count). he at least had a vision, even if his goons were dumb as hell.
 
Lysandre was ok up until the very last part of the story, where he seemed rather out of character and kind of ruined his characterization.

As far as I can tell, if you want to use abomasnow in singles... he would probably be great on a trick room team. Reuniclus + Abomasnow core.

His reason for wanting to kill everyone was something like "Some people are dicks, so none of you get to live!" It's almost as bad as team magma/aqua's loose grasp of geology. Almost.

Yeah, whoever had the braixen safari zone is great.
I think mine is a shitty ice one.

Yeah, he goes berserk in the end, and that kills most of it (i was expecting for him to try to stop the scientists, and keep his word so you'd fight a rotation battle with Lysandre and Serena by your side,
to end in a final duel to see who's worthy of the legendary pokémon. But there's a limit to how much gamfreak wants you to be attached to a pokémon character.

Still, his ideals are better than "let's get rich" and "let's enslave the pokémon". He already got rich and tried to use the money to help people, but there are limits to how much you can do in a corrupted country/world. And he was willing to take the guilt for what he was about to do (he cried when talking about the pokémon being vanished from the world, since they're the only 100% "innocent" victims). He also implies that the pokémon world isn't perfect and could have a resource shortage, like we'll have an oil shortage in 20, maybe 50 years in the future)

To Lysandre goes the trophy of "biggest character waste in 2013". Maybe someone will do him justice in the manga, anime or a fanfic... people do pokemon fanfics right?


Hell, i live in a country with a corrupted and stupid government (Hell, one of our political big figures is wanted by the INTERPOL)... Even the people are starting to break, glorifying criminals and screaming for "human rights" when a gang leader that killed or raped countless people gets shot in the head when escaping the police!

If i had control over a weapon like that (i.e. any big bomb), i'd blast the "palácio do planalto", and be sure that i took loads of rotten people out of this country. Would feel sad for every innocent involved, but between the "can't save everyone" and "can't save anyone", i'm better with the first choice
 
Lysandre is okay, but not great. Personally I liked Flare better as a silly team, because the Kalos region is clearly one of high fashion and style. Hopefully they'll make a more coherent story in Z. Not that they'll ever top Colress or anything.

That's because shiny Joltiks and normal ones look almost exactly the same!

Ugh, it had a good nature too!

And I'm not even sure what I got in return! (it was either a Fennekin, Korean Piloswine, Japanese Klefki, Japanese Bagon or Japanese Magnemite)

EDIT: and it was my first shiny that I got myself ever!

Could be worse. You didn't gave your 3ds to charity by accident. And joltiks aren't that good too.

Speaking about mistakes, already captured 20 sandslashes to get an adamant. Now I pray he has good stats, but still need to unlock the city where I can check it

Joltiks are actually good now though, at least Galvantula is. It got a new attack called Sticky Web that is an entry hazard for your opponent that reduces the speed of all pokemon that are switched in.

It's all-the-rage lately.

Galvantula just became one of my new leads in Single Battles. (and Doubles too, I guess, if my opponent isn't packing Rock Slide)

I have a Joltik in my box for the sole reason of getting my Uguu~ on.

In other news, Shedinja is a lot of fun to use. It requires a TON of planning and foresight, but it's next to impossible to beat him when you do.

edit: Yooooo, that's pretty cool. That one in the middle is the water/fire right?
