quick touhou mugen question: are they all based on IaMP/SWR sprites or are there any based on Hopeless Masquerade sprites?

They're mostly based on IamMP and SWR because they're more Fighting Games.
I haven't seen any Hopeless Masquerades yet.

i'm also waiting to see if someone has made a Shinmyoumaru for mugen. Stage 6 Touhou Boss + Tiny = Free Wins.

Give 'em time, I'm assuming making a MUGEN character from scratch is hard, with a base or a sprite edit taking half as long.
 
Last nights tourney was the most fun and hype I've had in weeks! It was the right thing to do to remove Felicia and Nail. Those characters are too stupid. I'd say the silversamurai vs mb-02 match was the best one of the night. Second best was Goku (the ppls champ!) taking out Petshop. BUT YO PRAISE THE SUN \0/

Have there been any chracters that have been removed from Salty Bet?
due to being glitchy (like Omega Tom Hanks), or just because they're terminally potato or stupid?

I can only think of one character that might have been removed...

This thing is from an anime called Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It showed up once, in a fight against Knuckles. The game got stuck at the betting screen, and neither character actually ever fought. They just stood there for hours, playing their idle animation, staring each other down. We had to wait until morning came and Salty woke up, before betting could finally resume. (We made jokes that it was a staring contest.)

I haven't seen this character since then, so perhaps she was removed, because something about her breaks betting time. Maybe her gimmick is that she disables the timer? If so, then she is definitely incompatible with Salty Bet, as the betting phase requires the timer to tick down to 0.

awell duane will always have a special place in our hearts (plus I think he's still in the background of the salty stage)
 
I have to say, I prefer Snoop over Duane. Duane's gif always looked kind of janky and low-quality to me, the Snoop gif looks high-quality and smooth.

I'm so glad that Salty is now displaying the name of the currently playing song!

I love it when Salty adds new characters - for a brief period of time, there's all these completely unknown fighters, and for once, nobody knows who is going to win. That's so much more exciting than knowing exactly who is going to win.

Plus, people tend to bet on never-before-seen newcomers, no matter WHO their opponent is, because they are hoping that the newcomer turns out to be SSS-tier. This skews the odds in the favor of the non-newcomer, so it's usually quite profitable to bet on the non-newcomer, in a match featuring a character that nobody has seen before.

That is, unless the new character looks like a god and their opponent is a winless scrub character...

Well tonight's tournament was rather lacking in hype. The Earthbound fight was rather neat though.

Also there are so many requests for D.Donald fights that they really to find a character that can defeat him. Its getting silly now.
 
Dead Earth is always entertaining/spooky whenever it appears. Those death animations lol the random Melty Maids is my favorite.

Random thought, but wouldn't the 2D versions of the Skullgirls stages look great in Mugen? Does anyone here know how to do that?
 
I made serious money off that Shaft upset and I was away from the computer from most of the match.

honestly, i'm still waiting for skullgirls characters

someone should ask mike for a toggle in the training menu to turn off backgrounds and stage lighting. i know such a feature exists in the dev versions since its been used on the dev stream making new palette colors.

also he showed off that "turn off super flash" thing last thursday so why not?

Someone was attempting this earlier this year, but based on annotations, copyright stopped him.

Wow! Salty Bet just got a huge update!
  • If you're an Illuminati, you can now use your Salty Bucks to buff / debuff characters.
  • Now every character has a unique name, so there is no more wondering whether or not you're looking at the "real" or "fake" version of a character.
  • There are now official tiers. Characters are only paired up against other characters in their tier, so there are no more one-sided matches.
These changes make a big difference! Formerly potato characters might become god-tier. You don't have to worry about losing your bucks because you accidentally bet on a "fake". And now that all of the fights are even even fights, the odds are close to 1:1, so it's easier to make good money off your bets and climb out of the mines faster!

There are still one sided matches because even if two characters are categorized in the same tier, the gaps between characters in that tier can be wide as heaven and hell which happened fairly often. Obstinate Tank and Eighteenth Angel matches are a couple quick examples where the opponent felt like a potato.

I agree though things are a bit more balanced now and the presentation is nicer now.

Ok, about the event tonight, it wasn't even Mugen! It was that weird 3D mugen thing.

I'm 62 and I read a lot of geek stuff.
Don't remember where I found Salty-bet, guess like I found you.
Got hooked, and times I wish other. (Bouncing between screens now)
I'm not illuminati, and have spent most of the time in the salt pit.
I'm seeing the top leader board bettors are pretty conservative, and pull the stops on the Acuma's, and dark Donald's.
I do enjoy trying to find the ones that, not are swamped with the big bettors, but under the radar.
Because my memory has gotten bad, and the huge amount of fighters, I've found it frustrating.
But I can recognize a few.
My favorite is Shuma-Gorath, made more than a few 1000 off "It".
It has the smoothest graphics, and I recognized it from somewhere.
I was young when Marvel comics came out, Shuma was in a few.
The way he springs, and morphs.
Just cool.
Angus is another, and most WAIFU's.
Females has jiggle factor, even in the undeveloped, which is a good chuckle. (Any DOA in there?)
Only thing missing on some characters is the honk, or flugelhorn.
Wasn't going to join illuminati, now for certain.
Have respect for the non-illuminati leaders, and feel bad for the all in losers.
Gold letter names can fall off, and would bet are the ones that try to mislead in chat just so they can get another $.
I would like to see some Magic The Gathering characters.
