Report Skullgirls Encore to receive Japanese arcade loctest from November 28-30!

Nesica's are hugely expensive, have monthly rental charges on them and can only be operated in Japan.

Dat Japanese Arcade Market, man. That's why Skull Girls need to get in on that stuff.

*This is the part were we find out that Mike Z did this to get Skullgirls a Jappenese following to help them make the Skullgirls Anime*

Don't get me hyped on things that probably won't happen.

For anyone in Japan, here are instructions (from Jiyuna) on how to get a NESiCA card.

Soo how much does it cost to buy a private Skullgirls Arcade thingy?
Becous I plan on saving money untill I can buy one. Like maby put my change money in a big jar everyday!
Not really feasible, mostly due to NESiCA.

Even before that, you'd need to get a cabinet, which, since this is on NESiCA, will most likely need to be a Taito Vewlix, which isn't that cheap. Then you need to get a Taito Type X2 board which is what NESiCA runs on.

And even when you do get all that, you'll still need to pay monthly for NESiCA service. That is of course, if you can trick them into thinking that you're in Japan.
There's no such thing as a private SG cabinet. SG runs on Nesica, which is a sort of new form of arcade cab.

You buy a generic Nesica cab and it connects online to the Nesica game marketplace. Arcade operators can then buy any games they want for the cab. Users cycle through all the games that have been bought for the cab and choose the one they want to play.

NESiCA is a service, not a cabinet. While there is a dedicated Vewlix NESiCA cab, you can get it on almost any Taito cabinet that allows for a network connection (all Vewlixes, etc.).

You can build or buy an arcade cabinet and put a PC in it. Either wait for the Linux port or install windows and put some awesome Skullgirls art on the thing. I would of done this a long time ago but I lack money and space.

Soo in other word. I have to move the whole country to my garden!
Or I move to Japan?

Or, I make my own arcade company!

As awesome as news from Japan Arcade SG is, I figure loketests are usually for character balance, so... what exactly is being "tested" with the location tests?

The port itself?

Loctests are also a marketing thing. Drums up some great word of mouth interest when people see special machines you need to line up for.

Does this mean that L0 will have to put in a "Here comes a new challenger" notification? Or how are new challengers going to be handled?

I also noticed that the game goes by rounds even when not 1v1.

they made that a little while back

Now I kinda want a "HERE COMES DAREDEVIL" thing every time the game goes from an online lobby to character select

those message screens are always so hype

Makes sense to go by rounds I feel. You do pay like a dollar? or something. So if it was just one round I don't think people would want to spend a dollar to play

Almost 2 bucks a game? I haven't been to an arcade in a while, but I don't think I ever paid that much for something that wasn't like a big ass experience thing.

I guess it's to offset the costs that the publisher had to pay to L0 for porting the game? Judging by Mike's reaction.

Also it's FT2 in a game that's normally only FT1 so maybe that's why...? Although it's not like there has been any Marvel type games that had arcade releases since Marvel 2.

That ain't it.

I was serious. "Why?" I figured 100 yen.

What's the typical cost of a round for something like USF4, BB and such?

Granted I haven't been to many arcades, the one that I went to (that is now dead because no one wanted to play AE2012 when USF4 was out because of some Capcom shenanigans) had a dollar for most of the games however Initial D was $2... per race.

I played the "story" mode and I figured it was $2 a try (So if you lost you had to pay up) but I was shocked that even though I won the first race, I would need to pay another $2 to continue...

Pretty damn sure it's $1/100 yen/whatever in most places.

Yeah, even for loctests like this 200 yen is really weird. Iwould be shocked if it was that price when it actually releases.

Despite my better judgement I'm on my way in for a couple of games.

Isn't the price determined by the arcade operator?

Yup, but I've never seen a fighting game at 200yen before, and I've been to a bunch of Hey!'s loctests.

Some of the bigger cabs like Gunslinger Stratos and new versions of Taiko no Tetsujin generally launch at 200yen. It's kinda nuts for SG to be at this price.

EDIT: Aw. I remembered some stuff I need to do tonight so I can't head in to the test until tomorrow. Sad face.

damn thats a great way to get less people playing by making it double the price.

I still want to know what's up with the "2 downs even though it's not 1v1" sort of thing. If it's like what @ashxu said, I GUESS you're paying for 2 games and getting 2 games? If that's the case I GUESS that's fair?

well, if its a close match, then maybe you could get 3 games for the price of 2?

it's still kinda weird though

I'm just gonna toss this here. Credit to pipipicpsf

SOMEBODY PLZ SIT DOWN AND PLAY IT
It's 100 yen for this one. I guess it's different for each arcade center(?)

I'm gonna ask why the intro was in English, considering we have Japanese text for it. :^P

[edit]
I'm told the Y200 is because they have extra rounds and are asking people about it because they want people to have played enough to give feedback. Price and rounds will be up to the arcade operator at release.

Any phonecam vids appearing yet?

oh god i hope they dont get to change the round timers as well. i remember being super stoked to see a marvel super heroes cab in australia a while back, so i put my dollar in and barely got to play like 20 seconds since i lost on a timeout and the timer was sped up to super fucking speed.

I used to pay $2.50 for House of the Dead or Time Crisis 2 back in the day when Bar Code was still around in manhattan. It's why I only went there maybe 2-3 times ever. And this was like 12? 13 years ago? Yea it's a good reason why arcades don't exist anymore.

There isn't one video showing the game from coin insert to round start? L0 would need to record and program a "new challenger" sequence, if they didn't then does that mean you have to either choose between Story, Arcade or multiplayer?
