Well, this is an interesting time to get Skullgirls and join the community. :P
I have to say, this looks pretty intriguing, and I'm definitely playing this. It's a little dissapointing for me personally ( :P ) not being able to start with Ms. Fortune or Squigly, but given the game's prequel status for its first "season", it's understandable. I'm definitely looking forward to the potential lore, though, as well as any new characters should this game do well to be able to incorporate such, if I'm not mistaken on what I heard.
Speaking of lore, something tells me Filia's story mode's going to heavily involve Nadia, Little Innsmouth, and the Fishbone Gang, for these reasons:
1. In the canon info thread, Yu-Wan is mentioned as one of the people who Samson bugs to get himself and Filia a place to sleep. Maybe this is Samson's first meeting with the guy, or Samson led Filia to Innsmouth to meet Yu-Wan?
2. In the trailer (1:30 of the Anime Expo video), there is a scene where Minette says:
"Thanks for that! I was about to grab a swordfish to scare 'em off, but I'm glad we didn't have to fight! Usually my friend Nadia helps me deal with punks like that.
I haven't seen you around before... You new in town?"
Considering both Filia and Minette would eventually have troubles with certain "punks like that", it's possible they're both being put in this situation as a reference to the console version's story mode. Minette also doesn't recognize the person she is talking to, either, although Minette likely doesn't know of many of the playable Skullgirls characters anyway. :P
3. In the same scene, in the background, you can see Filia's icon hovering over a location with a blue light, and other locations to the right have a red light. Based on this, I feel like Filia's the character in control here.
4. At 10:53 in the same video, we see some story modes, the first one looking like Parasoul's (No Egrets), the second one revolving around the unplayable Ms. Fortune ("A Fishbone to Pick"), the third one showing Peacock ("Who's the Boss?"), the fourth appearing to be about Cerebella ("Going All In"), and the fifth notably using a picture of Black Dahlia ("Ascent of a Woman"). Despite Filia usually being the go-to main representative for Skullgirls stuff or the "first" in something, she doesn't seem to have any story mode about her among the first 5 shown, yet the second and fifth story modes star unplayable characters. Not sure what excuse I have for Parasoul having the first story mode, but unless the developers decided to place Filia in far off for whatever reason (which I doubt), I think she's going to be playable in the second story mode about Nadia, which may be a part 1 for a possible story arc if Dahlia's picture in the 5th story is any indication. Then again, these are beta screens, so who knows?
I'm still not 100% sure if this will end up the case, but I'd just thought I'd bring it up since no one has yet.
Do I get an A+ for my paper?
