Skullgirls Original / Fan Character Thread

Cool stuff guys! I figure I would join in on the fun! This one my FC for skullgirls. I'm not entirely done with her design but i figure i should the current version.

CHERRY

Short Bio:
A ASG experiment with internal Synthetic Parasite, Gumbi. She is rather shy and keeps to herself. She tries to avoid confrontation if possible. Though she doesn't like confrontation she wants help make difference in the world.

Playstyle:
Cherry's attacks would be stretch themed. These far reaching attacks would allow her to slingshot herself to her enemies dealing more punishment. The removable orange belts around her suit help her control her mass displacement. They can also become short Daggers that can use for close combat or be thrown.

Gameplay Inspiration:
Hazuma (Blazblue), Shuma-Gorath (MvC3), Lambda-11 (BlazBlue), Voldo (Soul Calibur), Luffy (One Piece)

After the war The Surgeon General began his real medical career in New Meridian preforming over 900,000 successful surgeries no matter how critical in condition the patient was.
Since he only began with that, let's be generous and assume 25 years of work without a single day off + up to 16 hours of work a day.

That's 100 operations a day = a successful operation every 5-10 minutes.

For 16 hours. Every day. For 25 years.

Let that sink in.

Bio
Sir Darian Vize was once a proud, noble, yet naïve knight in the medieval Canopy Kingdom. One day news of the Skullgirl came to the castle, and with it a young sorceress from one of the neighboring kingdoms. Claiming she knew how to put an eternal end to the threat, she begged the king to spare some of his men to help her on the parlous quest to the Skullgirl's lair. Having her plight dismissed by the king, Sir Vize stepped up to help her for the sake of both kingdoms. After making their way to the Skullgirl's location, Sir Vize engaged her in combat and defeated her. In the aftermath of the fight the sorceress claimed the Skullheart, and instead of using the wish to destroy it, made a wish for personal power and the ability to make an unstoppable army. Using her new power she turned Sir Vize into her first soldier giving him eternal youth, near invulnerability, and bones of living iron. How ever, he was spared from becoming her servant due to his fierce loyalty to the Canopy Kingdom, and he quickly returned to the kingdom to prepare for the oncoming war. Soon after, the sorceress began her attack having used her power to enhance the soldiers of her own kingdom in the same way she did to Sir Vize. After a long and difficult battle, the soldiers of the Canopy Kingdom stood in victory with Sir Vize landing the final blow to the new Skullgirl. However, he collapsed from exhaustion before he could destroy the Skullheart, allowing the creation of potential threats for the kingdom's future. Having failed to put an end to the source of power to the Skullgirls and feeling alienated from his brothers in arms due to his transformation, Sir Vize left the kingdom to go into a personal exile allowing him to watch over the kingdom he loved, and to protect it from other Skullgirls if he can. Having stayed in his exile for centuries helping slay Skullgirls from a more supportive role and gaining mastery over his iron bones, he has returned to the front lines to defeat the current Skullgirl and destroy the Skullheart in order to finally put an end to his curse.

Appearance:

Play style:
Already a fierce warrior before being transformed, Sir Vize has implemented his bones of living iron into his up-close and personal fighting style. By manipulating the living iron in his bones he can extrude them out of the pours of his skin to make various weapons and armor to use in battle. He is able to quickly swap between the weapons he has during combos, going from swords and axes to maces and hammers mid swing. He's also able to form shields when needed and has even adapted a select variety of ranged attacks by observing the world's technological advancement over the ages.

Blockbusters:
Only one so far, and still working on a proper visual for it: Iron Bone Gatling; Sir Vize extrudes three bone "pipes" on each of his arms and has them spin around ta a high speed. While they are spinning, the "pipes" shoot off small pieces of them selves toward his opponent as makeshift bullets doing rapid chiping damage to them.

I have no idea what to formally call the extrusions other than pipes. I'm open to sugestions though.

Gameplay Inspiration:
Wolverine(Marvel vs. Capcom series), Kimimaro & Kidomaru(Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm), Edward Elric(Fullmetal Alchemist), The Tick(um...The Tick), Clayface(Batman), Mr.1(One Piece), Silverbolt(Trasformers Beast Wars), Battle Toads

That's pretty much all I got so far, I'm still working on most of his moves(that's gonna be a pain to do) and I feel I still have to make a few more visuals to fully get what I'm aiming at for him across.

I believe I will attempt Backlash next. When I do eventually post her, I would absolutely love a little more feedback than I received for Grumm if that's not too much to ask. Criticism, compliment, whatever--I just want to hear from you all and hopefully improve my designs.

As for characters posted since my own:
Gracia sounds very cool. She seems to me like an ultimate extension of Painwheel combined with Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas in that she's a fabrication, a unique hodgepodge of different dark elements. Rather than classic 'emotionless, trying to become more human' you opted to give her distinctive traits like an inferiority complex, which makes total sense. Very nice job.

The Surgeon General is an interesting spin on the backstory of the Last Hope group, combining success and mystery. He's got an impressive resume, but I feel as if Valentine's moveset robs him of any true originality. His quotes seem rather sporadic, ranging from near-egotistical to insecure to sadistic, which would be acceptable for a lunatic.

So far Cherry looks neat. Stretching in a fighting style has been done before but that doesn't mean it's any less potent, and I like the spin brought on by the orange bands. Her art is also pretty nice.

Sir Darian Vize is a good character with an intriguing backstory, but his gameplay mechanic is extremely similar to the effect of Painwheel's Gae Bolga synthetic parasite, which I believe allows her to extrude metal blades (referred to as nails by some) to attack opponents. I don't have much else to say.

Honestly, I didn't even see the similarities. Painwheel's Gae Bolga is only used in a few moves while Sir Vize's Iron Bones are used almost every time he throws a punch. If there is any true similarity between them, it'd probably be the speed chipping damage on the Iron Bone Gatling as it would be at the same speed as her Death Crawl move. In all other respects the move itself is closer to Peacock's Argus Agony/Eyes of Argus move in terms of how it's pulled off.

Shipwreck

Bio: Shipwreck was created by Lab Zero shortly after Peacock destroyed the Skullgirl by using blueprints for Peacock's parasites which they stole from Lab 8 years ago. In order to copy everything that peacock is they purposely found an orphan in the same age range as Peacock purposely mutilated him however they used random thugs to do so as they wanted him to believe that Lab Zero saved him from certain death. He was also given the same amount of freedom as Peacock able to watch T.V. and so forth as it wasn't necessary to give Brain Drain control of him as Shipwreck thought Lab Zero as family and he wouldn't dare disobey his family. By doing all of this they hoped that he would be more sufficient with destroying Lab 8 and Peacock. But this backfired as from one look from Peacock he instead of destroying her and Lab 8 he instead befriended her and became a regular visitor of lab 8 although he only came too hang out with Peacock and watch T.V. talk about explosions and how much they love to beat the ever living crap out of the medicis.

(The originality of my OC is so out of this world don't you agree?)

This is my idea for a character in skullgirls. So if you know skullgirls you know Issac and Aeon use different variation of time manipulation. Matea uses a variation of Venus's space manipulation.

Back story:

Matea is Isaac's colleague at the Canopy Kingdom University. Isaac studied archaeology and discovered how to use time manipulation during his research. Matea is a math teacher and invented a space manipulating bag but its uses are limited to being just a glorified storage unit. Shortly after Isaac goes on the run Matea discovers two books near the site that Issac was studying. These books look as if they were made by the trinity themselves. These books further Matea's studies on space manipulation and allow her and objects to move between dimensions. The catch is what ever comes out of the dimension comes out distorted. The distortion is is temporary but it is very damaging to anyone who is not used to its affects.

Play Style inspiration:

quick draw fighter, setsuka(soul calibur), Huey freeman(boondocks), Dr.Strange(MvC3), chell (Portal 2), Pheonix Wright(gathering info), dancer (final fantasy tactics the war of lions), Homura (modoka magic)

Play style speculation:

weapon 1 katana: Mētoru No Chōkoku.
Her Primary weapon is her katana: Mētoru No Chōkoku. She utilizes lightning fast short range slashes and slow lunging powerful single strike. Being a math teacher she is good at calculating numbers and likes to challenge herself by doing math problems while she is fighting.

Weapon 2 Dimension Bag prototype and Calculator.

Her secondary weapon is her dimensional bag of tricks and calculator. Using her "take note" ability what ever the current combo counter is she records that number. Depending on the multiple of that number her next move "calculate" tells her what move to use from her dimensional bag. the multiples are 0, prime, multiple 2,3,4, and 5. if the combo counter is at 7 and she "takes note" the next "calculate" move she does will be the attack associated with prime because 7 is a prime number. Each multiple has different attack properties and properties can compound if the number has more than one multiple.

(no notes taken) 0 - slow roman cancel ( not as good as Parasoul's. only good for canceling really slow attacks)
Prime-stagger
multiple 2 - more damage
multiple 3 - overhead
multiple 4 - crumple status
multiple 5 - extra hitstun

For example. if you take note of a 12 hit combo the next "calculate" will have the properties of multiples 2,3, and 4. So it will be an over head, with more damage and it puts the enemy in crumple status.

If you take note multiple times the numbers you record will be added together. the bigger the number you have the more pronounced the the effects of calculate. The "math" that you have stored will be displayed under the life bar. and it will tell you the total you currently have stored and what multiples apply to it.

edit: using "calculate" uses up that moves value and you have to start "taking note" again to get more values.

Weapon 3 Tenebris and Signum the Dimensinal Books

Her tertiary weapons are her dimensional books Tenebris and Signum and her school supplies projectiles. The books can be set any where on the field and once they are set they can be used as "portals" for her to access or for her projectiles to go through. The books can be used to extend her attack reach or redirect projectiles for interesting attack angles. When a projectile goes through the portal they come out with different properties than when they go in from more damage to more hits or different flight patterns. When she goes through the portal she takes damage but she is temporally powered up and her features change.

The books can be used as a command grab when they are set or if she is holding them in her bag. If the opponent doesn't block the books grab they get teleported to wherever the other book is. So a book is high in the air you can launch the opponent then command grab with the high set book they get teleported to the the book that's close to the ground so now you can continue with a ground combo.

The idea is really good Tank... But i think it needs some nerfs, or people will repeat the same combo to get X hits and get the best calculation result... it'd kill part of her variety.

maybe adding some randomness on the numbers or limiting the number of "buffs" it generates
 
Taking note pretty much ends your combo depending on what move it was you hit last. You cant hit something like lp, lp, mp, take note and expect to follow up after that take note. Taking note at the wrong time leaves you open since its not an attack itself. I guess "take note" is sort of like a stance and the stance takes time to execute so you have to work that execution time into your combo. maybe lp,lp,mp,hp, takenote, lk,lk....is posible

What is the best calculation result? The most properties you can have at one time is 4 because thats just how the math works out. the minimum combo/value needed to get 4 properties is 60. EXACTLY 60. She has multi hit moves so geting to exactly that number is difficult. one hit above or below could ruin that. 120 is the next value/combo that gives 4 properties. 180, 240,300...ect. there's a pattern to it. Don't forget "taking note" multiple times adds the numbers together so it is possible to get number this high.

Multiple 3 (overhead) is probably the best property. So far from what I can see the smallest number that gets the most propertise including overhead is a 12 hit combo. so maybe her standard moves will make it difficult to get to that number so easilly.

Multi hit moves could give her that "random" factor your're thinking of. Canceling into "take note" in the middle of a multi hit move makes it difficult to stop on the exact number you want. You could stick to the single slash moves but with her the more hits you get the bigger the value you record. The bigger the number the stronger the calculation.

I didn't mention it in the post above but using "calculate" uses up that moves value and you have to start "taking note" again to get more values.

(tl;dr)
I guess what i'm saying is having Multi hit moves in her move set fixes the "same combo" issue. People won't just do the same combo they'll have a combo in mind for what ever value they have stored since getting big accurate numbers is difficult.

If it really does need a nerf the following could be done:

To help regulate how easy it is to get the calculated number you want maybe it should be a requirement to "take note" at least twice. This way you cant just do a 3 hit combo and get an over head. so she has to do two combos or some how fit two "take notes" into one combo.

A more drastic step could be she can't "take note" in mid air but i don't think i like that.

I'm a terrible artist but my girlfriend and I collaborated on a character. It's a girl (we havent decided a name yet) who has a parasite (Niero), but the parasite is attached to her brain and can only be in control when she's asleep, so when she's fighting she's asleep the entire time. The parasite can manifest himself sort of like a stand from jjba and he's like a knight in shining armor/ man of her dreams because he's a dream based parasite since she's asleep. He fights while she is sleepwalking around and can carry her too, since he's controlling her brain she wouldn't wake up is how I justify her not waking up. We're still coming up with ideas but a few of them are him having a 'nightmare mode' sort of like pain wheels hatred install, him being able to lay her body down and move more freely but having the body take 1.5 more damage if the enemy hits it while he's not attached, and him being able to pick her up and hit people with her TuT

He doesn't really care about her so it's not a relationship like Samson's or Levi's. She might not even know hes there and it could be sort of like a werewolf thing. and It would be shocking if when she lost she would wake up and be like 'where am I?' I think that her being completely unaware of what is happening would be pretty interesting and scary. So yeah that's our character but I'm a terrible artist. She's in pajamas though and Niero manifests himself from her subconscious dreams so he's a knight I'm shining armor :]

You cited ms Vic so I was confused about whether you were talking about the thread or the game. People make characters they can identify with better. Maybe we can get some deviant art users to migrate to Skullheart and make some OC's

They're just human, and humans are more prone to create human characters.
If you identify as a furry these would appeal to you better than your obsolete human form

The thing is though, not a lot of these characters are 'human' A lot of them are modified so it's not really an argument.

Besides, a lot of people enjoy Ms Fortune and they're not furries.

They're more humanoid was my point, as in not a different species.

And I didn't say anything about anyone not liking characters because they were feral or dagonian, I'm saying that the characters they make aren't feral or dagonian because its less relatable to them personally.

But your character is more humanoid too, so you're criticizing people for not taking advantage of the wide range of species, while also not taking advantage of the wide range of species.

I'll defend myself with saying she's an old ass oc and I didn't want to venture into unknown territory and considering we have a BUTTLOAD more information about the universe, it's a travesty we're not using it.

You don't have to but I would rather not see it overused.

I'm not saying 'not make humans' I'm saying 'don't be uncreative' because honestly, a lot of ocs here make me cringe in such a way I haven't done since Deviantart.

But that's problely because I'm pretty anal with ocs, it even leaks it's way onto my work, since Brooks was a 'dip my toe in the water' sorta thing.

Also, I half say, got for it but really though, fiddle with the idea and see how Skullgirlsy it is. I'm not really having a lot of faith in male ocs for the game, considering all of I've seen were basically 'lets fuck all the pretty girls' sorta thing. Also dumb power fantasies.

Just to be a bitch, here's a Dagonian octopus girl I designed right on the spot (Anyone's welcome to grab her, jsut ask.)
But I really just threw on 'cute' features and did a common monster girl thing, octomaids.
It's not that hard to design a interesting-looking character without her being a damn experiment or parasite user.

This shit's getting overused and does not make a interesting character.
