SKULLGIRLS PERSONA THREAD

I know I'm not the only one who has fantasized about living in the realm of fiction. We're all guilty of it, it's only natural to want something other than the mundane life that we're used to living. Some works of fiction are far more suited to this sort of thinking than others, Skullgirls is without a doubt one of those works. A paragon of creativity, Skullgirls is a perfect setting for people like us to let loose our desires for a more exciting world.

Describe who you would be in the Skullgirls Universe, what would your life be like in this other world?

Hmm... I would be an African/Irish female (even though I'm guy, don't you judge me) who's of average height, likes Beowulf, and hopes to meet Annie in the future. Her name is Brianna but everyone calls her Bri, she's an average human who goes to school and lives in an average area. But she happens to be DA BOMB at archery. Because she loves it so much she carries a bow and arrow with her because why the hell not. She has long, curly hair which is tied in a bun. She happens to have a heavy Irish accent as well.

(I didn't do this right but whatever)

I'd be a Feline Feral (like Fortune, only without scars, puns, and underboob). Can't really say much else; I'd need to give it more thought.

Weird, thought I posted in here. It must've been deleted.
A basic idea would probably be something along the lines of those people in the background, may or may not have a cute design but is only there for decoration and to watch. Especially since I'm better at watching fighting games than I am playing them.
Though, I swear it'd probably be something cute in design. Like a girl with twin tails.
Because that's awesome.

I'd be one of those horned goat people like Patty or the red headed goat lady.

I dunno, I guess I'd do a odd jobs thing that gets me into all sort of shenanigans.... all the while never giving a fuck no matter what goes on.

What's up with all the guys who want to be girls? That's going a bit far.

Your Persona is supposed to be you in the world of Skullgirls, not some video game avatar. You should all be taking the life that you already have and enhancing it with Alex Ahad's creative work, not completely rebuilding it from the ground up the way you want it.
I'm a 20 year old male college student and I would still be a 20 year old male college student in Skullgirls.
Of course there are going to be some major differences but at least I'm still the same person on the inside.

Long story short, y'all gotta be true to yourselves and proud of who you are.

I apologize if I offended anyone who actually wants to be a different gender in real life.

Oh.
Well.
Ok.
I'm not trans or anything I just so happen to have a girl persona that I have for fun.

But ok, same thing, just male.
Again, better at watching fights than being in them.

I'd still be male, unless it states that somewhere in the lore that Ferals are inherently female.
I went with Feral because I identify with the white tiger as my spirit animal. I could throw in something about looking up to Feng because martial arts and whatnot, but I'd rather my descriptions be elaborate instead of half-assed, hence me giving it more thought.

Oh I am, but I still wouldn't mind being a female.

I just want horns in my head

Also, it doesnt really seem all that fun if our lives have to be the same in this universe. like, I'm kind of a recluse outside of college and stuff, I kinda would love to do more if I were in the world of Skullgirls.

I'd be a parasite ( who needs a roomie :D...forever )

That was cool and all but I have to ask, is your keyboard broken?
That was so hard to read, the lack of any punctuation confused my eyeballs.

I'm not saying your life has to be the same, just don't completely change who you are.

Of course it's easy for me to say since my life is awesome.

All I ask is that I can retain my crush on Beowulf. And if I simply must be a guy then I'll go just plain Irish. And change the name to Cian O'Sullivan.

I'd be a tree. That's always cool. Stuff the Tree, it feels right. <-great wording.

I personally feel that it's ok to make some changes. Growing up in a different world yields different experiences, especially in a universe as crazy as the Skullgirls universe. Your persona's life won't be identical to your real life, therefore, there is tons of room for variation. You can give yourself some different traits, and you can over exaggerate already existing ones. But at the end of the day, it should be still be you. They should have (relatively) the same personality and decision making process as you do, though.

Or you could, I dunno, just throw all that out the window and go crazy.

As for the different gender thing, I think that since the universe includes a gender-specific wish-granting plot device, there is no problem in switching genders.

*Disclaimer* These are the opinions of Bucky Barkley and are subject to change with proper convincing. You are free do agree with them if you wish. You are also entitled to different opinions if you find these completely bonkers. You are also free to completely ignore all of this and go on with being a tree, horse or whatever you wish. All hail Stuff the Tree!

Thist thread seems to be going....well. Maybe you should have provided a template Zen. At template would provide an efficient way to map out ones own character and gets the point across. Also, try not to say that people can be anything as you will get silly answers from people who are not taking it seriously (Although I don't see anything wrong with that). Also, let the guys who want girl personas have them. It is there choice in being a female in the SG universe and as we have seen...most of the female cast is pretty awesome in their own rights.

I have provided a template!

I didn't provide a template because I didn't want to seem too controlling, but I guess I already came off that way.
As for gender switching, I just found it a little worrying that some people want their lives to change so drastically.
I just wish that some people were a little more comfortable with themselves, or it might be just that no one is taking this seriously. I'm not saying that's a bad thing though, I mean this is just a fantasy thread.

Well no one is completely comfortable with themselves. The template itself offers people a backbone to their character to get them to think. It is not controlling, only helping as I left a lot of maneuverability. Technically @Stuff should not even be able to be a god in the SG universe, only a sentient spirit of nature I guess one might say. Sort of like the Great Deku Tree.

But, I'm no stickler (heh heh) and I think that with group discussion these personas could eventually end up having move lists of their own. That would be radical and a complete success for this forum, going above and beyond the original purpose.

who's to say I don't just classify myself as a tree? check your privilege. (was that even right? I don't look into these things I just hear about them and reference them)

No you got that spot on.

And really, I'm comfortable with myself.
I just think it's fun to have a girl persona at times because it makes me feel in touch with some of my traits that I don't show too much.
I'm not implying anything bad, but yeah.

And manifestations of spirit animals we identify with is also cool. If we somehow get artists in here who can sketch Personae (personas? idek), we can develop an alternate SG universe where our characters are canon.

Remember, none of the characters' Story endings are necessarily canon, as they all happen in different timelines (Double's ending). What if one of those timelines (not necessarily one we participated in as players) contained our Personae?

Think about it: Stuff could be a tree in No Man's Land. I could be one of the people working at the Casino. There's a lot of possibilities with this, and it's up to us to figure out how those possibilities would play out. Imagination's a beautiful thing.

Right! Let's have a go then!

Gender: Male
Birthday: December 2

Bucky Barkley was born into a growing family in a growing city in the Canopy Kingdom. His father was a martial artist with his own dojo. His father would always tell him about how his side of the family had fighting in their blood. And Bucky believed him, he could feel it in his veins. He had seen his father take on challengers before. Usually his father would go through the fight with total control, but sometimes, when the fight was challenging and it looked like he was going to lose, he would suddenly become reckless and wild. He would ignore defense in favor of a brutal offense. When this happened, Bucky's father always ended up destroying his opponent. It turned out that his father's side of the family were a group of warriors, famous for being Berserkers. Once their blood got boiling, there was no stopping them. Admiring his father's strength and the respect he commanded from his students, Bucky decided to become just a good fighter as him.

But his father got caught up in the war. Instead of joining the fighting, though, his father was brought in to teach Canopy Kingdom soldiers in the art of Close-Quarters Combat. This limited the time Bucky had to train with his father. He was so busy that usually the only interaction that they had time for was a quick sparring session every day. Fighting against a master was extremely frustrating for the first few years, but as time went on, Bucky began to get creative with his tactics, making up for his lack of experience with unusual techniques. By the time he was 15 he was able to match his father's punches in speed and even manage to beat him on a lucky day. And by the time he was 18 he had developed his own style to a point where they were an even match.

This isn't to say that Bucky's a mindless brute who lives only for fighting. On the contrary, his mother really didn't like their fighting and wasn't shy about telling them that they shouldn't fight so much. She would frequently tell Bucky about how much fighting could harm others, even if it was just for fun. Between this and seeing all the awful things that the war was causing, Bucky quickly learned that fighting wasn't something to be taken lightly. He decided that non-violence was the best policy, but fighting would be okay if totally necessary.

While Bucky had learned a lot from his parents, he didn't get to spend a lot of time with them. His father was always busy training new soldiers and his mother would work as hard as she could to make ends meet. After all, the military had them moving frequently and the family was growing at a steady rate. So during the war, Bucky found himself holding a lot of responsibility taking care of his 5 other siblings. Being directly in charge of their well being most of the time instilled him with a caring and (mostly) patient attitude towards others. Of course, that didn't stop him and his siblings from fighting!

Moving around so much exposed Bucky to many different types of places and ways of living. The place he connected to most was a farm on the outskirts of the Kingdom. He just felt at ease among the quiet open spaces and the fresh air of the countryside. It was also there that he started to play the banjo. When he was old enough, he left home (which was New Meridian at the time) and moved to a small, quiet town nearby. While he had his own land to grow, he wasn't really much of a farmer. So now, at the age of 23, he works for a nearby farm, doing odd jobs while maintaining his own small amount of crops with the knowledge he gains from his employer. He makes frequent trips into New Meridian to sell produce and visit his family. Bucky is known to make stops on these trips to play his banjo for people.

Being the son of a fighting enthusiast/master, Bucky has learned to fight pretty well.
He plays banjo. He plays in both three-finger picking and clawhammer styles.

He cares for people and the land. He will go out of his way to help people he feels need it.
Despite the fact that he likes to spar, he is a pacifist and hates to intentionally harm others (unless they really deserve it, then it's a necessary evil).
Like his father, Bucky does have a bit of Berserker in him, generally brought out when he experiences pain in combat.
Ironically, he kinda enjoys the feeling of going berserk, even though is upset with what he does as a result of it.
He's acts as nice as he can to others, but will be less reserved with good friends, usually taking on a slightly more sarcastic attitude and being a bit on the blunt side.

Bucky is a little less than 6' tall. Working on a farm has left him in good physical condition. He has light brown hair and green eyes. He stays clean shaven most of the time, though he does let a short beard grow out occasionally. He has a small horizontal scar under his right eye. Brown is his favorite color and he wears it frequently.

Bucky uses a circular style of fighting. He uses this circular movement to position himself around enemies as well as to attack and subdue them. His weapon of choice is an indestructible open-back banjo. He wields it in two different ways. The first is by holding the banjo by the neck (with either one or two hands), wielding it like a mace/hammer. In the other style, he holds the coordinator rod (the metal rod that's visible from the back) with one hand. While using this style, he uses the pot (the bottom circular part) like a shield, but instead of holding his ground and blocking head-on, he will block the hit and rotate around it. While doing so, he will attempt to position the neck in a way to trap a limb or body part to create a strong hold/lock. He can also use the tuning pegs to catch opponents blades. He also has a pouch on his belt for finger picks. While he only needs three for playing, he keeps extras for fighting. When used for combat, he wears them on all the fingers on his right hand, but none on his left, using them to cut enemies or get a really firm and painful grip on them.

Trees, Relaxing, solid ground, caramel apples, bluegrass, friendly sparring

Litter, people taking advantage of others, being out on open water, fighting with harmful intentions

I'd be the founder and owner of the Ranked Lobby (Formerly the Combo Lab), a "gym-mall" in Innsmouth that has everything from general health and upkeep to martial arts training to pharmacies, health food shops and even physical therapy. If you need something that has anything to do with physical activity and wellness, the Lobby has a room for it!

I myself would be the Skullgirls equivalent of an MMA fighter, and would be relatively famous in my own right with a great number of awards and accolades for such a young fighter. Unfortunately, I would also be the Hercule of Skullgirls: The heart for it is there, and I actually could beat near anyone else, but I wouldn't hold a lighter let alone a candle to the playable cast and all the craziness going on there (superpowers, Parasites, Living Weapons, millitary training and artillery, the Mafia, ninja training, the undead, technologically enhanced abilities, divine power, immortality, Beowulf).

Speaking of Beowulf, I'd nevertheless have a one-sided friendly rivalry between us that never fades. However it's the kind of rivalry where you're always outclassed by the other guy, in the sense of "He might've been a legitimate threat, but he picked the starter Pokemon with a type weakness to mine", not that it would deter me from 1-upping him.

As for my "story mode", upon hearing of Beowulf's un-tirement, I get the (bad) idea of doing just about the one thing that even the great Beowulf couldn't do; Go find the Skullgirl and give her what-for before he can! It goes better than you'd expect, but not by much.

Likes: Martial arts (primarily MMA), the Ranked Lobby, penguins, family, trying to get the best of Beowulf, pizza, Little Innsmouth, stand-up comedy, upbeat music.

Dislikes: Unfair and Unregulated fights, failing to get the best of Beowulf, Sudoku, bad weather, high temperatures, dolls, Parasites, unfriendly people, failing to get the best of Beowulf, unpeeled fruit.

At first I thought this was going to be a thread related to the SMT series and like, coming up with Personas for the characters. haha.

Probably I'd just be an artist by day, flapper by night livin' out of Little Innsmouth. Goin' to Yu Wan's a lot for the food. Maybe if I got lucky I'd make friends with Ms. Fortune or something haha. Maybe go into making cartoons, inadvertently make a little cyborg somewhere happy. Considering how bad the fates of people who actually do battle in-universe tend to be, that's all probably for the best.

I'm not gonna go blowing myself out of proportion as some crazy wish fulfillment fighter type, anyway. Just think about what would be relatively realistic for the setting. It's kinda like America/Europe in the 20s-40s, it kinda isn't.

Name- Kubat
Gender- Male
Birthday- June 2nd
Bio- A senior student at Winterbrook High, his family is descended from a line of mercenaries that participated in many of the wars. His father has been the most recent to wield his one of family's treasured weapons. Now it is his turn to use the Banefish Sword.
Build/Appearance- A 6' barracuda Dagonian, his skin is scaly and grayish blue. His teeth are permanently gritted due to them jutting out from his mouth; this appears as though he’s always angry, but he can show other emotions, just not that many.
Weapon(s)- A sword carved out of the jawbone of a Gigan, his teeth.
Likes- Red meat, Science fiction novels, Studying, Chocolate, Sleeping,
Dislikes- Noodles, Stairs, Jelly beans, Getting sick, Snow, Having nothing to do

I just made some changes to my character post. I cleaned up the Bio and gave it more depth and added a few things to the personality section.

Hmm,I'd probably be the host to a parasite. Say if the parasite was really bossy,I'd be the one in control. So the poor parasite is stuck to a girl with a taste for creativity, wrestling, and she may have a few mental problems.....dang it,now I wanna draw a picture.I will post a bio later.

Name- Beatrix Alexandria ha ha see what I did there with the Beatrix thing 'cause my username is Beat I'm so clever
Gender- ladydude
Birthday- June 16
Bio- Beatrix is a highschool sophomore, aspiring artist and author, and dog feral. She is otherwise in no way even remotely exceptional as a person.
Mad Skillz Yo Skills- Able to ignore most pain out of pure stubbornness, pretty good at stabbing things with long pointy bits of metal, half-remembers some judo throws she learned in a community center class in middle school, somewhat competent at punching things, can kinda sorta draw sometimes when the stars align, good at getting hopelessly addicted to multiple things, undisputed master of emotional instability.
Build/Appearance-Six feet tall, pale, and lanky with a figure like a bowling pin, plus a pair of fuzzy brown dog ears poking out of an untidy mess of simlarly-colored hair.
Weapon(s)- Shitty display sword bought for way too much money at a comic convention, improvised halberd home-made from a curtain rod, a kitchen knife, and a sharp bit of scrap metal. We gettin' Hildegard von Krone up in this bitch.
Likes- Cartoons, comic books, watching people beat each other up, wrasslin', gambling, eating way too much junk food, drawing child-unfriendly pictures of copyrighted fictional characters doing things her mother would disapprove of, awkwardly hitting on cute girls, awkwardly laying on the shower floor and crying after being rejected by cute girls, the color blue
Dislikes- Rude people, having the aforementioned figure like a bowling pin, having to actually work, herself
Other- ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Please laugh at my pathetic displays of pessimism so that I may actually feel liked for once.
