So how often do you guys plan to do the podcast?

Is this the new skullcast?

Is this the new skullcast?
There was an old Skullcast?

i think so... besides making a podcast is always great. I personally want one where Mike Z does nothing but rant about random stuff that bugs him, i find them nice to listen to. Idk why... 6-Let do that, get Mike on the mic and make him rant for a couple of hours.

Give me a download link so I can listen to this on the train and stuff cuz this is 9long10me

6-let, you've chosen a great time to start this up. There's going to be lots of good stuff to talk about on the horizon, I'm sure!

Having trouble looking for a podcast site to upload (soundcould and other sites has a limit :/) For now use this http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ and paste the youtube link. Once I find a site I'll provide link.

I kinda wish I would've started this earlier but hey better now than never.

Great interview! Several interesting insights. Topics in chronological order:
  • Voice Over history drive the XXX Don't Give a Shit (gimme my money)
  • Road to getting the part (and hiding it)
  • Some fool's KLK VA prediction
  • Owning the role: be Beowulf, not sound like Beowulf
  • Troy Baker oversaturation
  • Story mode hype
  • Fighting game camaraderie
  • Combo Breaker!!! the best of the best tournaments
  • EVO ಠ_ಠ
  • "Anime Age" and role types
  • Adam, the #2 choice
  • Behind-the-Scenes with Lab Zero
  • Meet (some of) the team: Earl, Mike, Mariel, Jon, Alex, Peter
  • Recording session people
  • r/skullgirls and Skullheart moderation
  • advice to younger people: don't act like you don't care
  • If you are passionate about something, take it seriously (call out to certain players, won't spoil the surprise)
  • Disrespecting Skullgirls for laughs is counterproductive
  • Fighting Game Community culture
  • Bonding after fights
  • Below the surface, FGC very accepting to minorities
  • Open future
  • The future of Skullgirls is as strong as you make it Go buy Skullgirls on PS4/Vita damn it!
  • Conclusion/contact info

I don't like the typical young person behavior of, "never trying too hard for fear of being judged," but in case anybody's confused after hearing me talk, I'll be clear: I like both the people I used as examples, and my criticism stems from my opinion that they could be even better :)

I'll listen to this when I have some spare time, should be fun!

Great interview guys! I really enjoyed listening to it! ...Save for one bit. Let me quote it.

"So if you think you can take Dekillsage and Duck and TJ, I mean the Swiftfox rather and Sonicfox-- if think you can take them all down you can make mad money"

WHERE AM I IN THIS LIST?

You main pw you dolt of course people will skip over you

Sure PEOPLE will but Nightphyre? I thought we were buds. I guess he just wanted to use me to babysit his pup and trounce me at Super Pole Riders...

No worries though. I forgive you @Night Phyre .

Had a blast hanging out with you and meeting Kiran over the weekend! Thanks for inviting Alex and myself over!

Okay I knew I forgot something so first post is now updated with info. Also I will have a better microphone and better internet for better quality.

Lmao do I really give off that impression, Night? Can't think of a time other than when my character got super nerfed where I made it seem like I didn't care.

You're only a good example because of my looking at it through the lens of your position as DA KING. Given your status as EVO champ, yeah, I think you come off as a bit Laissez-faire. People look at you or Duck and they feel like Skullgirls is just kinda there for you, like you could take it or leave it. Is it unfair that you're semi-public figure saddled with being an example to the masses? Maybe. But you are that person, and people follow the lead of their top players.

Yeah, Skullgirls is not that serious, in reality. And past that, you stream for hours a day, sometimes, so you clearly do care about the game and being good. I think, for me, I'm just concerned about the public perception of the game and it's best players, as that sends signals to those that might be interested in playing. When they see people who even just appear to not take the game seriously, well... I just think every little bit counts.

Edit: there's obviously plenty to indicate that you're not just saying, "fuck it, whatever." Your win at EVO almost had me in tears myself, and the dekillschool was great. I think these things just highlight even more those times when you seem easy-come-easy-go, though. I think recently I'm feeling the issue is a bit magnified in my mind, though, honestly. I'm working with the TO for combo breaker in an effort to get more stream time for Skullgirls, and it's like pulling teeth to get top players to commit to an exhibition stream that's entire purpose is to give more visibility to the game at a major. It's like, I'm asking people to play on stream, win prizes, and help show off the game during a prime time slot (8pm PST), and people are like, "eh. I dunno." :/

I just feel like more people could be doing more. You're not the most egregious example by a long shot, you're just one of the most visible.

Ok, yeah that makes more sense. Its true I don't really do much to try and grow the community, but in the past I've tried to do what I could to help people in the community already improve. I also don't do much to try and give the game more exposure to new people and stuff. (other than my own stream I suppose) The stream we got at NEC and WB were thanks to @SonicFox5000 bothering BigE a ton(good stuff!), but I don't think I'd ever do that. In that case, my bad! I'll try to do more in the future, but as I've told people before and those who have come to know me I am not very reliable.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll start the dekillschool thing again lol. The reason I stopped was a combination of many things, like my internet being rather poor for it and not having a great mic, as well as school getting in the way of my free time on the days I would do it.
But the biggest reason I stopped was because I felt I wasn't really helping/teaching people, since it was my first time doing something like that I didn't know how to approach it and was learning how to do it as I went. That's probably the best you'll get from me though, but I'd be happy to try it again.

@Night Phyre
If people are saying "eh, I dunno" then I say screw 'em. Pick different people who don't say that. Skill isn't the only thing that makes you good for a community, look at Gootecks.

@dekillsage
You're Evo champ, you should be making a huge deal out of SG everywhere if you give half a crap. Not that you don't do anything, you do, but you're in a position where you can use your (current) title for clout, so DO THAT. "Evo champ dekillsage takes on [random people] in 2 hours of Skullgirls mayhem", "Learn how to counter Beat Extend assist with Evo champ dekillsage", etc. Sure, it sounds kinda stupid. It also gets hella views, look at those DOA5 vids EmperorCow does. When I stop dragging SG everywhere after we're done, it'll be up to the community to do things.

Amazing interview, I especially loved the things @Night Phyre said about the FGC diversity, acceptance and attitudes we hold.

Night Phyre making me feel some ways about Combo Breaker I wasn't even thinking about, also about the community. Good podcast overall.

You can rip the mp3 and then host it on dropbox or something to open it for download.

God, now I wanna get to Combo Breaker even more.

Everything he said was true. As someone who's a fan of fighters and kinda just dropped into the community, sat down, and tried to force my way into things without being very knowledgeable, it's been an uphill battle. The community has been quite accepting here on Skullheart, or at least willing to note my existence as a thing. Heck, they don't even seem to mind that I'm new and want to learn, or that I'm far more casual due to time constraints. All that seems to matter is that I care about the game and the community and that I'm being active in attempting to improve my own skills in some way. It's a great community and I agree 100% with everything Night Phyre has said. I've grown actually decently since I initially started, learned of a ton more great games, put a stake in the community, improved myself, and now I'm looking into at least attending a major tournaments that's a bit out of my way. That's a huge leap from when I started just a few months ago. Am I getting a bit too rambly? Maybe, but I wanted to highlyight everything that being apart of this group has done for me so far. It's been grand, and I hope to grow more apart of the FGC in the future as thigns open up and I improve.

Yeah looks like it'll have to come down to that. I'll be sure to provide link soon for this one and every podcast.

@Night Phyre, I summon thee, it's so relieving to see someone come up the same way I did when it comes to anything. When I was younger, my brother, father and his friends taught me that if you pick up the sticks your gonna get your ass beat till you learn how to play. I learned Street Fighter through ass whoopings and nobody cared I didn't know how to play this applied to Basketball aswell so its funny to hear you make that statement cause that's how I learn and treat newcomers today

I advocate this style of interaction, as it most closely resembles real life. I think we weaken our youth by teaching them they'll be accepted just for being alive. Teach a kid that, and they'll go out into the world believing themselves to be constantly persecuted because they aren't being given everything like they were as a child.

This is very true. Instead of just outright shunning or laughing at others, you give them a chance and help them improve, or at least push them in the right direction. It's great that the community can still be accepting but at the same time require that skill and commitment that it does.

1st before making my statement, hey OP, you should change the title so anytime you have a different guest, you can just annouce or post the video here

Its a lost practice and criticized often because people want to be baby into learning but you can't learn if you don't try and fail. I never once complained and it made me better at the game. I only recently stopped playing alot cause online PS3 was vacant and my internet was off for a min.

@nightphyre But I also wanted to address something else you stated, but didn't want to start an argument so I'll probably message you privately cause I really wanted to discuss it

You could use front page promotion. ^_^
It's up to the Skullheart admins. Either way I appreciate all the feedback and can say I already made front page to plenty of places :D
Oh though I owe it all to @worldjem for starting one before me. The fact that he started one made me want to bring it back.

Will do. I'm not gonna flood the forum with threads like a certain someone. Will constantly change the first post, title, and provide a previous episode list.

I learned Street Fighter through ass whoopings
this applied to Basketball aswell
That must have been ROUGH! "Uh oh, missed your layup...you know what that means...boys, we got a beatin' to deliver!"

[edit]It was not worth going through that BBCode hell to post a message with this content. :^P
