Street Fighter III Third Strike

I'm really glad to see that this thread is making a come back :)

If any one wants to play hit me up on steam or this thread and I will make sure to make an effort to play

@Ninja
Q is strong enough to where you can make it work, this game really only has 3 characters i'll tell anyone to avoid every learning. Q isn't one of them.

J.HP all day as your main jump in, J.MK and J.LP are also amazing air to airs for different situations.

Your goal is to get hard knockdowns or far away knockdowns so you can get your 3 taunts. If you want to have any chance get your 3 taunts in. Some matchups at the start of round 1 you BENEFIT from backdashing and just trying to get one or 2 taunts in. Like Chun, she's doing no damage to you in the first round, she doesn't have any meter, taunt and take the back fierce. Just be smart about it.

Good Pokes:
S.LK up close.
S.MK is amazing
C.MK is amazing
C.HK is good if you can get the whiff punish read.

All the other buttons are bad or have no uses, but you can get away with making it happen with these tools.

Jump back HP and neutral jump HP are also amazing tools.

Starting out Q players have a bunch of really awful bad habits that they choose to do for some reason, but I can't make any calls until I see you play.

Your mixup game is making them guess between mid with close S.MK and command grab, but honestly Q isn't about mixing up or anything like that. You play footsies, you whiff punish, you get taunts, and you wait for mistakes and capitalize on them.

Combos:
Close S.MK, LP/MP? Dash Punch, SA1/SA2

Command Grab, LP Dash Punch (hold), HP Dash Punch.

Command Grab, EX Dash Punch, S.HK or B.HK if you don't want a knockdown.

After SA2 if you ever choose to run that super against Akuma or Twins, you can do LP dash punch (hold) into HP Dash punch.

Ending a combo in SA1, HP Dash Punch and they're full screen away, and S.HK result in a free taunt.

Ending a combo in SA1 is a free 2 taunts if the opponent character doesn't have a method to attack you from mad far away.

Examples of who you SHOULDN'T try two taunts and why:
Chun with meter.
Dudley with meter.
Akuma with meter but honestly if you're 2-3 taunts in just take the SA1 shit won't do anything to you.

And you can probably just figure out the rest.

Thats basically it in a quick little write up, but yeah you gotta play really defensively and really smart to make it happen. Never force situations and wait for your opponents to hang themselves.

If anyone wants to play today pleaaase hmu btw.

No worries hmu if you have any questions or wanna play.

what is the parry window?

what is the parry window?

Real rap I never bothered to learn xP

Its different-ish on like every freaking port anyway so I just try to feeeel it.

This is a game where I don't feel like learning frames is THAT required imo.

I know Dudley's SA3 and SA1 have one frame startup thats all I got ;__;

what is the parry window?

I'm not 100% sure but people have told me something like 7f for regular parry, 2f for red parrying specials/supers 3f for red parrying normals.

This is a game where I don't feel like learning frames is THAT required imo.

you do know that the japs all studied the shit out of the game and that's why they're 10x better than everyone else right?

frankly if you're advocating not learning or you're trying to make it sound like not learning is okay by any means i'm disgusted and disappointed

Kokujin is the one to watch.

Just ask me any questions and i'll help <3
Thanks. And who to watch for Akuma and Urien?

It's been a while since I played the game. Does anyone else play Elena?

I really love third strike, but i can't pass the execution barrier, in any street fighter.

I don't think the input requirements on 3S are particularly onerous. Ignoring the fact that I cannot jump cancel Chun's super to save my life, combos are generally pretty easy. You need to be fairly clean on your inputs, but that just requires a bit of practice. About 2 days practice got me pretty consistent on all my normal strings. I've got it on fightcade too, so I just played single player till the parry mini-game and save-stated so i can practice parries whenever i want. Not exactly ideal, but it's helped.

Please don't watch JR videos to learn Akuma, stick with JP ;_;

JR is good for entertainment, probably not for learning stuff.

I learned stuff from watching his videos

I mean yeah you're probably not gonna learn fundamentals but none of those other guys teach you those either

All those guys teach you that xD

No reason to watch JR who isn't close to the best Akuma when you can just watch the best Akuma's. Its like watching me over Kokujin, no reason to do it ;_;

I've got 3S on 360 and PS3 but mainly use the latter for it. Mains (yes, I have more than one) are Chun, Akuma and Elena, though I've been picking up Makoto lately.

So, who is better with Akuma than JR?

Arashi, Match, Kuroda, and probably Boss and KO and i'm sure i'm missing a couple from Japan i'm not super extensive with Akuma

He might not even be the best US Akuma anymore.

Anyone want to play on Fightcade? Let me know.

Any good Makoto players that i should look after?

And yes, my inputs are not clean, not at all, and i can't do the double fireball motion to save my life, and dragon punches are not that consistent too. =P

Is funny getting a guy in karakusa and thinking: now you are dead, behold my super! And all that comes out is her "uppercut"

Haitani (One of if not THE greatest Makoto right now)
Mimora (Amazing Makoto, undisputed king of SA1)
Tominaga (Very high level, and an extremely clean Makoto)
J (The long retired king, he only plays for fun now, but watch his old videos. Every Makoto player regardless of skill looks up to him. The first to it.)

KO
Boss

^These two come up a lot for A LOT of characters, both are considered in a lot of personal top 5 greatest 3s players of all time lists. Both of them play basically most of the top/high tiers at the highest level.

what site do people go to play this online? (PC)

So... going to say something really scrubby.

Having not really played charge characters in other fighting games other than Big Band, who doesn't use this as far as I'm aware, how do you get the timing down for Dangerous Headbutt into Chariot Tackle? Just can't seem to manage getting it at all, let alone consistently.

Pikachuakuma is good with Akuma
I fought pikachu akuma before plenty of times.

He kicks my ass EVERY time.

I don't know much, but charge characters in 3S (Urien mainly), demand like, some very advanced stuff. I don't know if it is that what you are talking about.

I guess it depends on what you're messing up, are you too late with the Chariot Tackle? Or does the Chariot Tackle not come out at all? 3S requires a lot of charge buffering and is very demanding in the execution department. If you don't already do this, make sure when you input the Headbutt you continue to hold back so that you maintain your back charge for the Tackle. If you play SF4 at all, it's the same concept that Boxer uses to do his Headbutt followed by his Ultra 1.

Another example, and I struggled with this for a while before I got the hang of it, is Q's Rush Punch ( Tosshin Toubu Dageki ) xx Critical Combo Attack (SA1). The Rush punch is a typical back charge -> forward + Punch, while the Critical Combo Attack is a QCFx2 + Punch motion. In order to cancel the Rush Punch though, you really can't do a Rush Punch followed by two QCF's ( yes it is possible, but the timing is very tight ). In order to do it way more easily, you actually want to charge back for the rush punch and do a HCF + P ( which is still a (B)F+ P motion so you get the Rush Punch ), followed by another QCF + P when the Rush Punch lands. So basically, you're buffering one of the QCF's in the Rush Punch making the cancel into CCA much easier.

Hopefully I didn't totally miss the point of your question, just keep practicing, 3S requires very good execution.

The charge characters in this game all require you to charge partition and buffer charges to some degree.

Remy you have to do it alllllllllll the fuuuuckiiiiing tiiiiiiiime.

Urien you have to do a fair amount of times, especially during the combos.

Here is a candid tutorial my friend Nica did about it, keep in mind he's not a Urien player ;P

Here is a pretty old school Urien tutorial, the cuhlassssic.

Dangerous Headbutt and Chariot Tackle are two of Urien's charge moves, yes.

Either, depending on the attempt. No, I don't play SF4, I can't stand how the animation looks, it just really bothers me for some reason. I understand what you're telling me, unfortunately I already understood it and am just failing at it, will just keep practicing I suppose, thanks.

videos
Thanks, will definitely check these out next time I sit down to play.

If anyone wants to play on Fightcade today let me know.
