Tabletop Games Thread (And Roll20)

Yeah, it's called the Vigilante Class, it's basically any kind of character that has two lives.
A normal upright citizen, and a hero/villain that fights crime with an altered identity, there are definitely rules for a "magical child", so you can even be a nonbinary magical person if you want.
There are some downsides, mostly how the hero is best used in a city and not out on dungeon crawls, but hey, you can be the Hulk so does that matter?

I also really want to play Pathfinder so this works for me, I'm even considering buying all the Bestiaries

Well, if you want, and I'm not sure if I'm too late or not, but can send you the pdfs.

Das illegal, I have too strong a moral compass to get them illegally.
Plus I'd rather have them physically

And holy shit, wow. That sounds great for a Christmas Roleplay
The upcoming Bestiary 6 will also have everyones favorite Christmas Terror Krampus
The thought of Pathfinder Christmas Specials sounds endearing as all heck.

I didn't wanna bump, but I have to share some things juuuuust in case.

One, Vampire the Masquerade 20th Anniversary Edition(An updated and cleaned up version of the World of Darkness version) is on sale for $9 on Drivethru RPG, and Werewolf20 (The Apocalypse) Will be $15 on Friday

Secondly, for anyone interested in the Warhammer40K games by Fantasy Flight game, you might wanna get moving, they lost the rights to the franchise, and are liquidating their physical copies at breakneck speed, so this could be your last chance to get those cool Chaos Marine books

I also really want to play Pathfinder so this works for me, I'm even considering buying all the Bestiaries
There's a new one coming soon that looks awesome.

It has Krampus and the four horsemen in it.

So, holy shit. Been doing some looking over TTRPGs again lately (Watched a TTRPG called Game Geek), and I found out about.
Two pretty good RPGs I really wanna play
First is Shadow of the Demon Lord, which is basically dark fantasy and I've heard a lot of good thigns about

And second, which I find unbelievably awesome is End of the World, this is a series of books about apocalyptic role-playing in four types of general Apocalyptic End of the World Types of Ending (you can choose to be yourself if you like)
Those include:
Zombies (5-6 on hype meter)
Wrath of the Gods (Any kind of Godly Reckoning, including Ragnarok, Cthulhu, Mayan, etc. A full 10 on Hype Meter)
Alien Invasion (8 on Hype Meter)
Machine Revolt (9 on Hype meter)

Now these are something I think would be really fun to play as a secondary group

I'm curious which demon lords they will include this time, mostly because I think Abraxas is one of the more interesting ones out of all of them.

He has snakes for legs for the love of mighty.

I got Pathfinder Horror Adventures for Christmas, and I'm making some sense of it even without the Core Rulebook, looks like it'd be fun to play and some of these archetypes are great.
I also like the Corruptions but some just feel too sucky to use (Deep One Hybrids will eventually need to spend 3 days in water, Werewolves have to make 3 crazy save rolls a month, Lich's stage 3 Corruption kills them so hard only a Wish/True Resurrection revives them and they still come back as an evil Lich)

Good deal, but as a PDF person there just isn't enough in there for me if you don't count the comics, wish I knew before I ended up paying double digits for the physical version of Pathfinder, oh well.
Some good campaign settings in there at least, i could still consider it

I didn't even look at what was in there, since I just noticed the bundle's name and I didn't wait for the page to load (yay slow internet =3). Now that I did load it, there's quite a bit in there o.o and it normally retails at $419 for all that for at least $25? Kind of a steal.

But then again I dono anything about PnP book sets =p

Don't forget though, PDFs. Though I guess the comics are worth something.
Usually TTRPGs aren't part of the Humble Book Bundle, so if you want some Pathfinde rat a low price that's a good thing.
The lowest is $15 if you dont want any physical copies of any comics

If I was into these book things, I wouldn't mind PDF. Plop em on my tablet and phone and I have a whole archive on the road without the weight XD

I'm thinking I might gm a game down-the-line.
I'd be interested, maybe, the only games I think I'd really wanna GM at first are all Horror Related, for some reason.
Call of Cthulhu, All Flesh Must Be Eaten, End of the World RPG, some Horror in Pathfinger, etc.

I'd probably do 5E, Nechronica, or generic Savage Worlds or something with a setting of my own creation (maybe the one in my game, since that's fairly well developed at this point, I even have a whole compiled design works and world building document assembled).

Played in a session of Nechronica today. Was super fun.

Some events:
>my character was introduced a few sessions in due to everyone's schedules shifting constantly. It worked really well since everyone is supposed to start Nechronica with amnesia which was fun to roleplay considering I did not know what the fuck was going or who everybody was at that point.
>cool, creative boss fight which quickly lead into absolute carnage of both players and enemy evisceration. I critted on nearly every roll and took no damage while instantly bisecting or decapitating everything that got too close.
>Another party member had one of her heads cut off (she had two). Then the other one. Later, her torso got exploded. She still contributed to the fight.
>Later on, we decided to interrogate the boss who I also decapitated. I screwed both heads back on, but accidentally put the wrong head on the wrong body. Comedy.
>Befriended boss and took her back home, with no limbs just to be sure.
>My grill turned to take one last look at the dungeon she'd been half-awake in for centuries, before departing for a new horizon with newfound friends.
>Along with the boss, became the sleeptime cuddle toy of another party member (who is a giant lizard), due to possessing a working heart (and therefore being warm)
Overall every bit what I hoped the game would be. Drama, black comedy, mystery, and a whole lot of weird. Good shit.

Fight felt pretty tactical and fun too.

Anyway I'll be in this one for a while longer. Once I feel more comfortable, maybe I'll try hosting something for you guys.

Neato.
I'm still deciding what I wanna play, I found out about a setting for Call of Cthulhu called Achtung! Cthulhu!, Basically 1940s WW2 stuff with Cthulhu stuff, has like 5 settings, might work but I'm not sure if people are into WW2, (Even I'm not)

If imma GM, I'll probably specifically used something I've tested* and feel comfortable with, and for which I specifically have a basic story premise in mind for, so there won't be as much indecision on what we playin'.

*Might do a few oneshots to test the water

Is it Nechronica again
The only games I'd still DM are Horror, Zombie stuff, End of the World RPG, Cthulhu, etc.
My friend might play Pathfinger or D&D with me in May so im not sure

No idea. I'll probably look into systems that might be easy for me to work with, or settings that interest me. I won't be deciding for a while.

One more update 'cause the last session was pretty great.

>Party member about to lose their soul and be permanently eliminated from the game
>Dive into the midst of the enemy (a boss and an entire monster legion), and manage to save fellow party member while risking the same happening to me
>slash shit up till my leg and both arms are torn apart and hanging by threads, can't escape. Party members are also crippled and can't reach me.
>hold sword in teeth and continue to kill monsters.
>bad roll, sword breaks
>no other option left but to rip out enemy throats with teeth
>Tank an explosion from a suicide-bomber zombie.
>On constant verge of perma-death
>bites off the last enemies face, shattering my jaw in the process, and then collapse with 1 hp left (or rather the games equivalent) and 90% of my body destroyed.
>Everybody lives

Pretty intense yo

Was in the same place I was originally rescued from too, so I really didn't want to let myself die here.

post fight excerpt:
Players in scene:
Zona (me)
Blink
Elizabeth aka Lizzy aka the giant non-anthropomorphic lizard girl with two heads because character creation is great

Allied Npc:
Wyrd, dead opera singer girl we rescued

Zona coughs and vomits up blood (both her own and those of her enemies), the cross pendant around her neck the only pristine sight in a bloody mess of crushed and slashed limbs

With the enemies completely annihilated, a shower of gore covers the room. Wyrd, in hiding, peeks out to look at the damage done to the store. "Guys...?"

"w...wdd" Zona manages to stammer from her broken jaw, gouts of blood and tears erupting from her punctured eyes

Blink tries to signal Wyrd for help with her arms

"Ey vus scaerd" coughed Zona "didn....want...here agai" as some teeth flew out

Wyrd covers her mouth, and looks at her friends, broken apart. She goes over to Zona, and picks up her jaw, or well, part of her head. "Zona..." She looks over at Blink, and goes over to her. She tries to hold back some tears as she realizes how much destruction happened while she was hiding.
Wyrd, after gathering up all of the pieces of gore belonging to the girls, puts them in convenient piles next to each of the girls.

Elizabeth, however, has mostly been focused on helping her self, devouring meat to rebuild her body.

Zona twitches "B-k...OOK...blinks..."

"Book?" Wyrd asks, until she comes to a realization. "Ah, book! Eh, uhh..." She shakes her head. She still hasn't seen anything that resembled it.

A click is heard from beneath the biomechanical pieces on Zona's chest and head. Pores on the "skin" patches open, enough to be visible, and a small amount of steam is released as an almost inaudible humming noise is heard. Zona wretches.
A small amount of living tissue seems to gradually repair itself slightly around the edges of the synthetic flesh.

Wyrd goes on over to Zona and tries to help support her on her feet (or what's left of them). "Maybe we should go home..." She looks over at Blink and Elizabeth.

Zona rests her head on Wyrd and closes her eyes

Liz is... capable of movement.
There's something feral in her manner as she continues eating

Wyrd pets Zona's head and goes over to Blink, trying to support her up as well. She looks over at Elizabeth. "Elizabeth?"

There's a pause and then one of the heads looks at Wyrd. There's something inhuman in that mutated face before it softens. She tilts her head.

Wyrd backs up as soon as her head looks at her. Her eyes show more fear then when she was initially crawling out to see the wreckage.
"Elizabeth, we can go home now..." She says, a little intimidated.

"Oh. Ok."

Good times.

The GM later noted that they wouldn't necessarily have perma-killed our characters even if our bodies and souljars were annihilated, but we didn't know that at the time and all thought otherwise.

Are you doing this as a play by post?

Eurgh I'd rather die than do a Play by Post
nah, it's not so bad.

Of course, it works better with narrative driven RPGs with less combat (World of Darkness), but it can be pretty good with medium groups (10-20 people) and one to five posts per day. Makes you able to keep the tale running while living your everyday life

Are you doing this as a play by post?

Nope, we do it live in Discord, split channels for in/out character talk. Totally traditional style aside from being online. Sessions usually last about 5-6 hours or so.

We actually use a live-editable google doc image for combat map during battle and moving tokens around via drag and drop. Turned out to be more quick and convenient than roll20. There's also a bot/command in the discord for dice rolls and other such things.

Pictured: the roll that nearly killed me.

GM is actually one of the original fan translators, interestingly. He's actually still working on it.

I wish people would ask me to join sometime T~T I've never done a PnP game and have been curious for a while.

If people decide to do something via text here, count me in.

I'm due to play some kinda TTRPG with my best friend while she's in Jordan for the Summer, just not sure what, so I'm spoken for in at least one group, but there's no reason I can't juggle.

Squire, i checked the Nechronica thing you told

the setting is fascinating (playing as little girls not so much... i'm not so good at interpretation to speak as a zombie little animu girl with all the sanchankun stuff. not in first person).

Maybe more than translation, the group working on it will need to work on a full, more didatical rewriting of the source material

maybe you could show me a log of a session later on, just to see how dark it can go

Alright I could post a session if it gets particularly interesting. I'd describe our game as rapidly bouncing back and forth between drama, black comedy, horror, and heartwarming shit at a moments notice. It's great fun.

The session mentioned above was pretty emotionally intense (see the post-battle excerpt above), and had some solid character development. Only problem is that the boss battle was so intense that we did most of the talking strategizing in out-of-character channel and forgot to "fluff" the combat with descriptions, resulting in a 3 hour confrontation (the dm made it too hard by accident lol) that's just a few lines long, followed by a quickie wrap up as we retreated with what was left of our bodies.

There's also this:

A wind was blowing.

"This is all your fault!" screamed a voice twisted by sorrow and rage.

Zona writhed on the makeshift bed, gazing down into a pool of blood within her abyssal dream.

"Necromancer", "Weapon", "Undead". A multitude of voices, male and female, young and old, coming and going, whispering and shouting, those three words. Among many others, again and again, those three words...

Rushing footsteps, breaking glass. "Unit 3-7 has been compromised. Repeat to all personnel: Unity 3-7 has been compromised."

What did they mean? All important, yet utterly foreign to the poor shivering doll, trapped in sleep.

"Help me..." There was another girl standing in the dream, resolutely. The two dolls locked eyes.

Flashing lights, screeching sirens. "Seal it up! Hurry! For the love of God, HURRY!" "

She won't speak. I can't even read anything in her face...so why do those eyes... make me feel like...I...?"

And then, a maelstrom of screams swept her brain.

The dream had returned.

"No...No...NO!" Zona moaned piteously as she curled into a fetal position on the church floor, her voice rising into a wail. The nightmare hadn't been this clear in ages.

But something was different this time. Slowly, fading into the dream, there was another sound. The howling winds were being soothed by something new. Bright and clear, it was a song.

Drifting in and out of semi-consciousness within the darkness of that buried room, Zona had never felt this sensation. For the first time in years, decades, maybe centuries, sleep became a comfort.

Wrapped in warmth, Zona slept and slept. Eons later, or so it seemed, Zona gently opened her eyes to the familiar site of the church.

"Wyrd?"

"Ah, you're awake! You've finally recovered!"

"W-was that your singing, Wyrd?" "Ah, yes. I hope I didn't disturb your sleep."

"No, no...not at all. Thank you... so much for singing to me Wyrd. Thank you so much."

Yeah, I pretty much feel the same, it feels close to a Dark Souls-like setting, but the fact it appeals to Lolicons seriously turns me the fuck off.

It's a bit more open then that.

The official books recommendation tops off appearance at 17 years old (my character and several others in the group look this old), but it says that, due to the nature of undeath, mentally your characters can be any age you like. It also says you can be a boy if you really want.

And at GM's discretion you can probably be whatever age you like. Our GM has hinted that we might be playing a bit fast and loose with the established lore/setting, so wiggle room and expecting the unexpected is a thing.

So yeah, you don't need to speak like a loli

The one thing I don't recommend personally is playing a typical badass adventurer/soldier type. Thematically the game thrives on teams of emotionally vulnerable amnesiac innocents. If you're character knows what they're doing at the start, you're doin' it wrong. You can be a giant non-anthropomorphic lizard with two heads (going on three...) like Elizabeth, just make sure you got some problems.

Youth helps a lot for this and in setting the post-apocalyptic twisted fairy-tale coming of age story vibe. I enjoy it a lot since there's a lot of room for character development.

i would be a non-anthropomorphic spider tank that, in spite of having built in weaponry, still chooses to hit things with improvised bludgeons like steel pipes and other people

Tachikoma Legs (that's actually what they're called) are a part and melee is good so you could in fact make a completely functional build around this.

Better, still kinda weird it's topped off at 17 max, just below the age of consent in most countries, Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

Anyway, found a few cool TTRPGs I'd really wanna play at some point
7th Sea (MIght've mentioned this before) which is swashbuckling fantasy fun
And a more gamey game TTRPG game (More narrative/roleplaying fun) called The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen, which in essence is you with 4-6 players (As 18th century Noblemen) telling a bunch of bullshit tall tales, which they can constantly interrupt with (where you can keep bullshitting for fun or backdown), with each player making a ridiculous story ( "My good friend, Attila the Hun!" "But Attila the Hun was dead long before you were born!" )
Like I said, more gamey than other TTRPGs in the thread so far, but would be fun to play for random nights
