The Mortal Kombat Thread

Leatherface,a Xenomorph (From the Aliens movie), Bo Rai Cho, and a Cyborg Hybrid of Cyrax, Sektor, and Smoke are the new Kombat Pack characters (KP2) for MKX.

So that's why Boon said some time ago that some speculation including Bo Rai Cho was interesting, but if they make a Kombat Pack 3 in the future I hope it will feature less crossover characters and more returns.

Weird line up to say the least, but I like it.

 
Meh at Bo [plenty of better past MKs they could have brought back] especially if they make him a joke again, Indifferent with Leatherface/Xenomorph because they are blatant sales bait although I guess it can now make for interesting matches with Jason/Predator now, and confused about the combined cyborg since I guess they are gonna split the three cyborgs into the three different load-outs.
 
I just want NRS to make their own Terrordrome at this point.

So, it is a tarkatan xenomorph?

This is at least interesting, it is probably a cheap way to throw baraka gameplay while bringing a new character.

The same can be said about the cyborgs, cyrax and sektor will be variations, and the third one, smoke? noob?

Oh, because it came out of Baraka it has his DNA. I didn't catch that the first time around.
 
Perhaps I'm being picky, but the alien roar at the very end doesn't sound like a xenomorph to me at all. Surely it will have the iconic screeches when hurt, though.

i can see the xenomorph automatically hurting attackers with acid blood whenever it get its hurt because that's how MK rolls.
 
Ok, so I ended up waiting for the trailer at the Game Awards.
It was never shown.
So I finally caught it AFTER the awards.
Kinda excited.
Leatherface? Why? Out of all the Horror Icons for this ya go with that? What about Freddy?

they already said that they aren't making people buy the same DLC characters again. Freddy's out unless they add him for free.

Seriously tho, I hope a Horror Icon Fighting Game is now in the planning stages with Netherrealm, they could definitely pull it off at this point, get the dudes from Terrordrome onboard and we'll have something fucking magical.

I'm still confused though, Leatherface?
What's he bring to the table?
I would've even taken Michael Myers over him and he's the most boring Slasher ever

Nah Ghostface is and that is because it's just multiple normal people in a costume killing stupid teenagers with a knife. The Scream movie [first at least] was fine in a slasher parody sort of way though and it really wasn't until the first Scary movie that made Ghostface actually entertaining. At least Michael has a better buildup/saga [non reboot] for a "normal" person, but the problem is to stay true to the character he can't speak which is kind of unorthodox for a fighter. I mean even Jason made more noise then Michael.
 
You know I'm willing to guess it's because of the Chainsaw and that'd make for an interesting moveset with all the variations.

The concept of Ghostface being multiple people was a great one at the time though.
Oh well, I can't hold judgment over Leatherface until I see moveset concepts for him and stuff.

Bo Rai Cho is garbage but the rest I'm looking forward to. A Tarkatan xenomorph is a pretty cool idea and the visual works well. Leatherface is a nice surprise.

Now if only for a theoretical third pack they get Freddy back, or bring in Pinhead or Candyman.

Oh yes, if they keep him like he was in Deadly Alliance, Bo' Rai Cho is repulsive. He's the type of character one doesn't want to play as or play against. A character that can't stop puking/burping/farting. The only way I can see them salvaging that garbage pick of a character is to class him up. Rip off Jackie Chan's Drunken Master. Make Bo' Rai Cho a respectable Zui Quan (Chinese "drunken fist" martial art) fighter. No vomiting or any of the gross-out nonsense.

Indifferent about Leatherface. Scraping the bottom of the barrel for horror characters, eh?

I'm happy with the other two. They could be an interesting mix of old and new ideas (Baraka + Xenomorph and cyborg scramble)

I think that would be for the best. If they do go for gross outs I think they will only go for Burps and maybe a fart... idk. I could see him using burps in one of his styles. The full on drunken fist could also be another style where he can drink booze to get a small damage buff that can stack. But if you drink too much you get a lag delay on his buttons or something, that could spice it up. (sorta like Kano's chest pound and how it damages him but it makes his damage output insane.)

no.

I mean it's a nice idea but it would have to be balanced in such a way that it doesn't feel unfair for both sides, yet good enough to make the player actually use the move when they really need to gamble.

Extra Credits went over this kind of stuff.
 
Games have worked with random values before, and randomness is the best characteristic of a drunken person.

But yeah... NRS sucks at balancing, so it wouldn't work.
 
I was always a fan of Bo Rai Cho, found him funny but I had bad taste and shit, but I'm very certain he'll be a more standard Drunken Master this time, he doesn't have the big jug on his back anymore, and instead has a flask I'm assuming, which is far more believable.

At the same time though, especially with his softer redesign in this game, I can't really see him killing someone in a horrific way.

I imagine that Bo' will get some sillier fatalities for his. Hopefully not all pukey and fart but like
sittin' down with them for a drink and then flipping the table into them so hard that it destroys their upper half.
