Characters only have 1 pose each for each type of hitstun though so even if it would be used for a new version of Double or something similar, it would be weird that there are several different ones (2 of the characters are both in air mid hitstun for example). If they were attacking poses I would be more convinced, since they could be used for something like Nightmare Legion.

Honestly, the fact that, even though the original leak was pretty obvious, they manage to muddy the water enough to get some people questioning the original leak just by releasing the follow-up joke leaks is pretty hilarious and diabolical. Now that's the real mind game lol.
 
That's the best part of any leak season. Even if you know some random's leak is totally fake, it's full to bullshit over the details. <3
 
I do wonder how finished venom fang was before the change. If there ever is another Double/Triple character, they would be a great place for venom fang if it wasn't too much work.
 
Speaking of Triple, I think Aeon would probably be the best opportunity for a second Double-like character can reuse the frames others. Like mother, like daughter, I suppose.

From what I understand, the devs' workflow had changed significantly from when they were working on the early characters in 2010-2011, so, in order to reduce wasted works, animations don't get sent to the clean-up state until it's very certain that the move will actually be used in the game. We can see in the Digital Art Compendium that none of the DLC characters had any unused clean frames for example, so I would assume Hungern Fang probably never made it to cleaned stage.

On the other hand, maybe if they really want to make a Triple that uses unused animations, they could just clean up those unused frames later. It will probably cost more but not prohibitively so if they can budget for it.

Really doubt they're drawing all these just for red herrings, they probably are being used for something. Question is, what?

They mentioned a while back that the fifth DLC character (if they end up doing one) could be decided by a vote. Perhaps these could be some of the potential candidates. Another possibility is these could be some of the characters they'd plan to do in the second season if the second season ends up happening.
 
There's no way they would be drawing hitstun frames for season 2 this far out. Even if they're considering future plans, nothing would be finalized yet and it wouldn't make sense to work on that so early.

I didn’t mean that they were actually working on them already, just that maybe this could be their way of showing what characters they’re considering for the future without explicitly stating that’s what they’re doing.

To be fair, I think just drawing a single sketch frame barely takes any time. They have drawn much sillier stuff on stream for fun so making a funny frame once a week for a running gag isn't that unthinkable. If there were multiple, fully cleaned frames then I'd take it more seriously.

However, like BallotBoxer and Corridor suggested earlier, it could be possible that these kinds of frames could be used for some sort of boss character like Double or Aeon who are able to shapeshift or summon other characters, but them being hitstun frames kinda make me doubt that.

Even if they don't have any plan to use them now, they could just file them away and use them way in the future when those characters are actually made, assuming these frames are drawn on-model.

EDIT: Also you're saying it like you don't remember all the effort they put into the Maeruto prank. Devs are hilarious people and they like to joke around as much as we do lol.

If we're to believe his brain has psychic powers, then I'd believe it could still do some weak things detached, it's like a space rocket and all the thrusters.

This reminds me of one of a favorite threads from the old days, "What if Skullgirls was censored by 4Kids". Trying to figure out if Brain Drain even had lungs, and if not, how/why does he smoke?

Pretty sure BD would die minutes later if his brain was disconnected from body. The cells would "starve" for sugar/nutrients and importantly, wither to nothing without oxygen.

I think all these hitstun teases could make an awesome entrance animation/illustration for the REAL next character...

3. The Skeleton (I'm sure he'll be the fourth character, though).

I can't see the Ice Cream Truck's silhouette, and it saddens me deeply. It would be so nice to have this character and Umbrella together.

Also, when's Umbrella?
And would it mean the next stream will be about the next character?
 
If marie is 4th, we should get a skeleton fake out intro

Sounds like Wendee Lee reprising the role of Black Dahlia, as seen in the voiced Story Modes (like Squigly's). She also does Sekhmet's voice (that's great range!).

I wonder if that first stream "leak" of Black Dahlia really was unintentional and all the others were to make light of it/throw us off the trail.

Black Dahlia's lines in the trailer are just splices of her lines from the end of Peacock's storymode, guys.

It was similar in Umbrella's early trailer, with Cassandra Lee Morris.

I hope Wendee Lee will reprise this role. She fits it well.

Anything can happen. And, basically, Black Dahlia already was one of the most popular predictions for the next DLC character.

If she does I believe she will be the first VA to voice multiple playable characters since she also voices Sekhmet. But yeah, given they used her voice from the old story mode I feel like they would get her back to fully voice Dahlia.

EDIT: Wait I'm an idiot and completely forgot about Kimlinh doing both Fortune and Robo lol. Also I guess there is Filia/Fukua but they are reused voices so I don't think those really count.

The fact he continued to stream and also did the meme leaks afterwards seems like it was taken in stride so I'm sure it's all good (probably not how they felt when they initially realised the leak happened though lol). In any case, they probably have much stricter guidelines now to prevent future leaks, I'd imagine.
