Marie's story trailer, release date 26th. Not much to comment on, other than we now know who will "kill" her in her story mode.

Any word on the planned change to Valentine's crosses? Kinda surprised it wasn't mentioned in all the recent hubbub.

Not that I have seen. I think it's probably taking a long time and they don't have their full resources working on it cause it's a lot of work that they can't monetise. It will probably be one huge update once they have all the necessary changes ready.

But yeah the fact the new design is shown in Marie's story indicate they are still planning on changing it.

The Skullgirls 12th Anniversary tweet for anyone who may not have seen it:

Mainly sharing this here because this is the first official mention of Valentine's visual update we've seen/heard in a while (as far as I'm aware).
minette and friends! finally thoses non playable characters can get some action

It's not impossible that Guest Stars have been a long-existing idea, so do you think it's at all probable that the "leaks" we saw during animation streams could be related?

Apologies if this isn't all of them; these are just the ones I have saved.

I suppose we won't know without official confirmation or unless these sprites appear in-game.

"Oh, Filia Banana. That's a funny one off frame a worker drew."
*Brain calculates the implications*
(slurred out) "BANANA!?"

I have my doubts. The "leaks" were in october of 2021 (mid Umbrella dev), and the first indication we got for guest stars was in may of 2023 (after Dahlia).

From the fact that the season pass is called Season 1, I think that they went with guest stars mid Dahlia development when they realised that they didn't have the pipeline to make and implement full characters efficiently.

Yeah, it's really not. The fake leaks are obviously jokes referencing the actual leak of Dahlia's air hitstun frame. I'm confused that there were and apparently still are conspiracy theories circulating around these jokes lol.

Not sure about this one. Anyway, would be nice if they would tie it into Guest Stars idea. Like referencing the "leaked" frames, or adding the exact same roster.
Bring in Banana Filia or Fukua, I say. That's the real star of the game.

wow look at these morons now that they just announced Brain Drain will also be a guest star hashtag teamreal. real hecking idiots

yeah yeah they probably just used the would-be season 2 characters for both the fake leaks and the guests

Yeah lol I don't think anyone was suggesting that Brain Drain wouldn't be a Guest Star (it was more likely than not), just that the fake leaks and the Guest Star development are unrelated.

Since we're on the subject, who do y'all think will be the next revealed Guest Star, since in the announcement trailer they showed a ? slot? My bet is on Feng.

After Minette and Brain Drain, I think Feng and Stanley probably have the biggest fan support. Molly would make a lot of sense too.

Feng seems to be the most likely candidate, really. She's quite popular (and I hope they would implement something from her proposed playstyle).

Also, Panzerfaust has a bunch of fans (the webtoon helped, too). Why not Adam. Maybe the plan is to fill the roster with a bunch of characters from different fractions. Then, playable Stanley or Isaac would make sense. If they want to surprise us, they always could get Scythana in the game, too (not very likely, but would be interesting).

Anyway, I'm sure the answer lies somewhere in the recent SGM character poll (if you don't go into the stuff like moveset concepts or implementation).

Yeah I forgot about that poll. Wouldn't be surprised if it had a big part in determining who were the first 3 guest stars. Especially with a new feature such as this, I think they are more likely go with the most popular characters first. I think further down the line if Guest Stars prove to be successful then they might take more risk with more niche characters that have interesting gameplay potential.

<tweet snipped>
Interesting that they used a 3D model for his head in his face-forward pose but not for other poses. Giant Brain Drain is definitely unexpected but I assume it's like some sort of mental illusion Brain Drain creates in his opponent's mind or something.

I was gonna guess Feng solely based on the "leaks". :P
With Guest Stars opening the doors, it'd be great to see any of the character-poll candidates enter the fray.

That said, I see no reason why Adam can't be a real possibility. Whatever Guest Stars bring to the table may only vaguely coincide with their concept descriptions (which was a character's like, selling-point as a poll option), but that's okay.

And here is the list of characters and their respective concept descriptions from the Indiegogo compaign, if anybody wanted to further speculate on what a contender might do in battle. These are more than 10 years old though, so y'know, salt generously or whatever.

Sadly we don’t expect Scythana, even if we desperately want her so to see more Gigan characters, due to her main gimmick revolving around her picking up K.O.’d enemies, and I doubt that would be super translatable to a super in the style of what we’ve seen so far!

*Sniff*, oh Scythana! Our darling 12 foot half gigan that we’ve probably been baiting getting a fictive of for a full decade now, one day you will see the light!

Like Adam.
I can see them going this way. The poll was definitely there to see who is the most popular, but it doesn't mean they have to follow the results as it is. I don't think there would be any surprises for now, though.

Maybe he keeps a giant copy of his robotic body somewhere.
He sort of did a similar thing with Robo-Fortune in a non-canon way.

Personally, I think that his proposed playstyle would fit for assists perfectly (Parasoul operates in a similar way, though).

That's kind of interesting, because Squigly and Marie can interact with the K.O.'d bodies in SGM... Well, of sorts. But these mechanics are relatively new, so it might be a step in a certain direction.

We'd certainly hope so! We fell in love with Scythana in high school because her mechanic is one of the rare ones that tells so much about her character: Picking up people's K.O.'d bodies like makeshift weapons is as blunt as it is hilariously brutal to her opponents. And most other fighting games just have the character "blip" out after K.O., so it really can only be done in Skullgirls. Hence our thought process that these characters should ~usually~ have higher priority since it's such a fun way to interact with the game.

BUT! Regardless, we still feel it may be a tad difficult to implement her as a guest star assist versus a playable character, you know? The mechanic feels a tad technical for a more all purpose super assist, haha.

Honestly, saying that out loud reminded us of a post we made on skullgirls mobile threads, where playable characters should probably come from different walks of life to show different perspectives on the world. Guest assists are a great opportunity for characters who have a little too much overlap with others (think Parasoul's crew, the circus, etc.) to be included without a whole new character moveset. Buuut who knows how these characters are being chosen, hahaha.

I think with the pace that they could put out Guest Stars, Adam is a very real, yeah, but I just don't think he will be part of the first batch.

Interesting idea, but the giant Brain Drain also has a giant brain in the glass dome on his head and I'm not sure if Brain Drain keeps a massive spare brain around lol.

It would be a huge surprise if he'll be the third character in this pack.
I'm open for surprises, you know :PUN:

One of Fukua's backstories mentions that Brain Drain likes cloning. Is not very canon, of course, but neither is Robo-Fortune's ending. Nothing stops him from having a closet full of giant brains :PUN:
Maybe that was his plan to begin with, until the saw that scribble Valentine made...

I think it counts as a social media update.
All of our theories about the third character flew out of the window :PUN:
I can't believe that we got to hear a certain character's voice after so many years. I wonder what's left from her initial concept.

I'm sure some people are crying in Feng right now (I should go and cry in Adam, too).

<3 Roxie. Can't believe it. <3

Wrecking ball reminds me of rocket raccoon log

We said this on, twitter, but Roxie was a great choice! She's a good reminder of the perceived timeframe of when skullgirls takes place, which we only just realized we tended to forget. And the mechanic machinery fighting is a fun way to go about it!

I am SO excited for Roxie, lol. I didn't think we'd ever see her again, especially after how little involvement she had in the web comic.
Looks like her equipment might have a 3D model!

The patch notes for the latest version of the mobile game included a video of Minette's progression. Specifically, of her boba-tea-grab-attack. It's been super cool seeing her come to life, bit by bit!

*cries in YouTube*
It's probably the best attack ever. I was sad it wasn't featured in Roxie's trailer :PUN:

Yeah the mini robo Brain Drain and Painwheel are cute and fun. I wonder who else we would get.

If there is a Mini-Robo Robo-Fortune that would be so unhinged.

I'm rooting for Mini-Fukua.

Looks pretty interesting to me, but I have no idea what is happening :PUN:
Looks like some food gets throw to the opponent's side the causes damage or debuffs, and some get thrown to your side that gives health and buffs. Pretty neat.
