Why is Filia Homeless?!

Why is she living such a life?

Did Samson really f**k up her life so royally that she is now forced to live in such a state? or are there other reasons?

I've been playing this game for a while (over 103 hours already) and it was not until today that i played the beta after weeks and then checked the new stage and obviously noticed the homeless Filia in the background, i couldn't even try to play or enjoy the moving background because all i could keep my eyes on was her pitiful state, after lurking for a while i learned that she also appears like that in the Medici Tower stage (and even saw some jokes about it, some funny, some not really), so i got hit hard by those news (news to me at least).

I know Filia is lacking character development and character dept compared to the rest of the cast, but she is been getting some as the plot of other characters (and herself) continues to expand, and i'm sure she will get even more, but i seriously don't wanna see her in such a state, she is a very beautiful and lovable character to end up like that, specially if it wasn't her fault, i dunno, i just wanna see her living better, even if it's just a little.

I also noticed there are some things that contradict her homeless life:

- In her ending, it's shown that she somehow still goes to school, maybe it's a public one or i dunno.
- In Fukua's ending she does have a pajama and a bed to sleep in, even a bathroom.
- I've read somewhere that in a live stream was said that she stays the nights at Samson's friend's houses.

I can't really put my finger on those 3 statements, because i know very well that none of the storylines is canon, specially Fukua's, and i don't know if the live stream thing is real or not or if it was just a joke, i can't watch live streams because my internet conection is way too bad during daytime.

Anyway, i just hope some people of the community agree with me that Filia deserves better, not just a place to call home, but also more character development and dept, i have the hopes that those will come eventually and not just for her, but for a lot of other characters as well.

(I'd definetly adopt Filia if i could)

- In her ending, if she gets her memories back, she's probably going to be able to recall when and where to go to school
- Fukua's ending isn't canon, and is a direct reference to Super Mario bros 2 in the end
- we'll never kno.

According to Alex she is "couch surfing" which means yes, she's been able to stay at some of Samson's contact's places, but she doesn't have anything permanent, thus the sleeping on girders and train cars.

Aside from that, amnesia and such, she doesn't remember where she lives and she's 16 so she can't well buy a house. Dunno what the deal is with her still attending school, but yeah
who knew that Dio Brando was such a caring and compassionate soul...

Her ending takes place later, with the amnesia subplot Skullhearted away. I don't think she's attending school during the canon story.

I'm not sure if in her ending everything's okay memory wise (I'd have to go back to it), but I agree, I don't think she's at school at all during the events of the game. Unless Mrs. Victoria finds her at some point and gives her a temp place to stay on the condition that she attends school? (But Filia sneaks out to find answers?) Not too sure.
 
Filia would be a much cooler character if she actually dressed like she's homeless. Like, why is she still wearing a school uniform and how is it spotless? When's Filia in worn out pants, dirty trench coat, and an over sized scarf?

She'd look like that girl from Tokyo Godfathers, it'd be cute.

Well she does have places to stay due to Samson, so nothing permanent. She doesn't have much (she can at least afford to get a milkshake), but I think she's able to at least keep up her appearance and cleanliness for a while, though maybe during the events of the game, she's nearing the end of others' hospitality? I think that since in the game we do see evidence of her being homeless her and Samson may be running out of options for the time being.

Me either. I was playing it safe and saying the subplot went away, not the amnesia itself.

The other reason is that she probably doesn't remember her relations with the Medici family, and presumably forgot that she was part of the family and instead insisted on living for herself. Oh, also, Parasite owners are frowned upon in Canopy Kingdom.

I actually forgot about that, about the racism against parasites all thanks to Neferu and whatever the heck she did in the past, BUT i don't think Filia would like or wants to be with the mafia, something about her caring personality feels like she won't like the company of murderers and drug dealers, specially if she gets to know all the damage they have done to other people, if she ever gets her memories back i doubt she would go to them for help, there is also the theory/possibility that she wanted her memories erased in the first place, but i think that was a dumped ending.

Filia's schoolgirl outfit just shows the immediacy of her decision to run away from home. No bags to pack, just run out the door, hop the train out of Maplecrest, and go. Something unimaginably terrible happened, she meets a dog with a mouth on the back of its neck and the next thing she knows, her past is a void of darkness and her blonde hair is now purple-black accented with two yellow eyes and a set of jagged teeth.

Yes! Filia's unused story ending hinted that she asked Samson to eat her memories.

Scary aside: the Skull Heart can still make you a Skullgirl even if you suicide from parasite separation.

I think this theory has been stated before but what if Fukua is Fillia's repressed memories trying to be remembered hence why she only exist in Fillia's dreams.

Well the new stage in the beta shows that she does bring a little bag with her, and thankfully it's was confirmed that she does sometimes sleep in proper places rather than outside, so my vampire heart rests well for now, but i still wish she could have a place where to rest easy and call it "home".

One of her quotes with Big Band shows that apparently he offered her to go with him, and she was thinking about it, but Samson went full jerk and inmediately told her not to.


(i'm 70% sure her entire situation is Samson's fault)

The thing is, that since Fukua is just a "Joke Character" with also a joke storyline, i doubt she will be given that kind of character dept, but it could happen, i'm neither a developer nor do i know what they think or will do, i'd like for Fukua to be given that kind of development, but with her current status as no-canon i doubt she will get any.

To add to the discussion, I always thought Filia's design was badass in the sense that it fools you into thinking she's an adorable school girl stereotype that wouldn't hurt a fly until of course she beats someone senseless. Her win poses at the end of a match give her the impression of "Did you really think I was that defenseless? HA! It gets them every time!" therefore breaking the alleged stereotype. Her being homeless just gives her a hardship as a character along with her lost sense of direction. I'm not sure if that was the original intent of her design but that's what I think of it. Regardless, her appearance being really simple to look at makes it easy to throw her away as an average school girl character. Only when you put thought into what the character's actions are, will it become clear why she can be as complex as everyone else. I would go on to relate this to the lore and Samson's purpose to her character but ehh.

TL:DR Filia is awesome and her being homeless makes her even more awesome just like everyone else in the game :)

And then you come to break my feels even harder with that awesome pic, but yeah i can see your point of view, the problem is that i was giving it a more realistic view, since no 16 years old should be suffering cold, hunger, and whatever else the world throws at her for being homeless (spare change, HA!....f*ck me, i'm not funny) specially if it isn't her fault, maybe i just want her and the other girls to have a happier lives, even Painwheel has a place to call home now (Lab 8 thanks to Big Band)

With Squigly i have the certainity she and Leviathan will comeback someday, and she was able to take revenge on Double so it's all good, now, the intro of her story mode, that picture of her hopelessly crying while about to be shot by Black Dahlia, that image was burned into my mind, i did cry that night when i kept thinking about it, i could actually imagine her screams of despair in what was supposed to be a happy birthday party for her mother.

And that Filia and Samson grew respect for both of them in the ending also helped out.
 
I don't recall where, But I vaguely remember reading that she lives at the same place as fortune, due to samson having contacts with the owners. Though I can't seem to find that little tidbit of info anymore, So I'm probably wrong.

I like to think that the pidgeon also belongs to Filia, kinda like a pet, also that third Filia still appears even if you play Fukua vs Filia for some reason.
 
The 'third' Filia is a tribute to Filia's first design, which had a much different colour palette, with red hair.

i would also adopt Squigly but she's already dead, oh wait, right, i can bring back the dead, this is gonna be awesome. (I CAN HAVE ALL THE BOOTIES)

Now back on topic, Filia's homeless status is also apparently a nod to homeless Ryu too, but unlike Ryu, Filia is not a martial artist.

I was asking because I'm wondering how vampirism will affect Samson. He's what makes Filia basically a Futakuchi-onna. So I guess he would bite humans and drink their blood too.
