Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2014 Thread

Yo that's five posts in a row Tech, cut that shit out.

It's usually against forum rules to post multiple times in a row

These Squid Girls are cute, but I want to see a little more from this than Turf Warfare.

It's actually bothering me how much everyone is flipping out about that. I mean just because they're cute squid girls doesn't mean this game is automatically good.

I still want to see some more from it before I pass a verdict, but right now I'm not envisioning myself playing this game for more than a couple of hours.

Maybe it's just me, I'm not one to go nuts over cutesy shit.

squids are cool
plus the trailer does show some more different kinds of things you can use like the paint roller or an ink sniper rifle

Unless I saw it wrong, I think up next is Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

OK, Monster Hunter is on now.

Cover art for Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., the new IP by Nintendo for the 3DS, developed by Intelligent Systems (Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Paper Mario)
it's a new turn based strategy game with third person shooter action elements
Steampunk setting, focuses on an elite team of agents created by President Abraham Lincoln in order to combat the alien invasion of earth. The art style is inspired by the likes of Jack Kirby and other classic American Comic Book artists.

by the sound of things, it sounds like Valkyria Chronicles with fewer RPG elements. The developers said that they wanted to focus more on the player building the right team, as opposed to just grinding a single character and oneshotting everything. There won't be any "golden character" or "ultimate weapon", it all hinges on the player and the team that they've built.

Known characters so far are the main character Henry (the fella on the middle of the box art with the eagle cannon), John (dude on the left), The Fox (lady on the right), and Lion (a lioness that can talk)

Looks good!

Now that's what I'm talking about.

So long as they don't have bullshit you can't plan around come from the bottom of my map, getting 3 of my Galeforce girls murked, we won't have a problem.

Hah, by what they've said, it won't really be comparable to Fire Emblem or Advance Wars, but more its own thing.
It focuses more on using the perspectives and positions of the different characters in order to plan your course, rather than a map. Each character has their own strengths (Lion can move and attack at the same time iirc, and John uses explosives), so you need to plan accordingly and have a good understanding of each character and what they can and can't do.
You'll also be able to get new weapons and subweapons for your characters, and upgrade them and the like

That's nice and all.
But one.
One more time of "Oh, okay, the enemy's forces are down........OH WAIT WHAT THE FLYING FUCK WHY ARE THE NEW PEOPLE APPEARING OUT OF NOWHERE AND HAPPEN TO BE BEHIND ME" and I am taking this to the streets.

To be fair I'm hyped for Splatoon, to me, I seems to give off the feeling of early TF2, before it became hat simulator, before it got a story, before hats became the big thing. From what I've seen in the trailer you can, at the least, customize your special weapon to the weapons in the trailer (the roller, the cyclone launcher, the air strike, sniper) and keep the machine gun as main gun through out and depending on the special weapon depends on how long/ how much ammo you have for it. I'm kinda hoping this also isn't is the case as then gameplay will probably get stale fast (which is why I hope I'm wrong). The Treehouse's problem yesterday was it only showed one variant of everything; one stage, one weapon (if it can change), and one super weapon. Like 2fort with nothing but soldiers using vanilla items :/. Also different game modes seems to be implied as they kept referring as the game mode as terf war. So if there is more game modes I hope they inklude CTF as I love CTF and with squid mode it would just be that much fun (it surprised me how long TF2 to get CTF honestly) But, yeah I hope this game does rock more than what I predict as I want to love this game as much as I can as it looks so much fun. And I'm kinda hoping that it gets enough support for the game that it gives reason to give it more content as time goes on.

I also hope you can choose if you're playing as a girl or boy Inkling.
Because, no, fucking I wanna play as the girl all the time.
I have no issue with it really if it is all girls. Plenty of great to decent games with only playable females. Bayonetta, Metroid series, (formerly) Skullgirls, Senran Kagura, Lollipop Chainsaw, Arcana Hearts, Remember Me, and more I either never played or never knew about.

MP10 keeps the "everyone in one car" mechanic from MP9. In Bowser Party mode, the Gamepad person plays Bowser against the 4 Wiimote players, has his own turns and can select Bowser minigames that he has control over.

Traditional MP rules are still available.

There are "Rides" that are slight minigames within the boards themselves.
Wait so you can keep the car crap, but there's another option that let's everyone roam around on their own?

Even console games are getting 3D grass now.

Your consoles are weeeeeak
I still can't get over the Peacock animations cut off because these toys couldn't handle them

No, it's just that playing as Bowser on boards and minigames is just a separate mode from the 4-player version. Non-Bowser players are in the car either way.

No no, there's boys.
I just wanna play as the girls becaues they're cuter
I agree. Heck , most of the time I have the option I choose female. Even in mmo's. F#$% having an avatar mirror me. Why have a sweaty dude on my screen when I can have a hot, scantily clad female with a figure that Aphrodite would envy sashaying away?

I'm not sure how well ctf would work for squidgame, considering how you can (from what I've seen) jump to other players on the other side of the map, as well as being able to swim through the ink (still not entirely sure how that works) I would predict a lot of steamrolling from one side. But I'm making predictions about a game mode the developers haven't even talked about and a game I've only seen (and will probably never play.)

For the most part I hope it does well, at least for the other colorful shooters out there.

Would you say the same thing for games with an all male cast? If Splatoon was shown with only boys on screen then instead of praise we would see outrage on the internet, and for good reason.

However, this casual acceptance of fighting games and other competitive games with all female casts makes me sick. It's a huge double standard and it needs to stop now. I'm fine with Splatoon making girl squids the default character, it's actually very bold and progressive, but it better give you the option of playing as a guy or I'm not supporting this game at all, fuck double standards.

Missed the smash talk. Oh well. Didn't sound like you guys knew shot about brawl and it's actual problems anyways

...There are guys. They were in the demo.

Good, now I'm willing to support the Splatoon if it plays well. It still doesn't solve the current problem with society, but that's a discussion for another thread.

Eh, the squid girls are nice looking and all but not having access to the game I can't say it looks that appealing to me. I'm not really sold on the visuals (they're not bad or anything, just not that interesting to me) and everyone saying it was the most fun game at E3 doesn't carry much weight with me.

I'll wait for a demo to hit consoles but all this hype about the game seems to be because it's Nintendo making a colorful game in a sea of brown military FPS's and the female squid girls.

I'd still play it and have no issue. It's a preference, not an end-all-be-all imo. I like male protagonists and will play them (Travis Touchdown is awesome), but when given the choice I usually go with female unless I really dislike the design/gameplay or really like the design/gameplay of a male character much more.

I do agree there there would probably be rage on the internet. We're living with a generation of oversensitive, selfish, entitled, irresponsible, blame-tossing fanatics; everything can and will be raged about. People can barely say "thank you ma'am" without someone going on a rant about "identifying" as a gender and sexism...

I'm not talking about protagonists dude I'm talking about competitive games like Fighting Games and Shooters.
It's not right to make only one sex playable in those types games and it's not right to be OK with it, like you are.

That rage is well placed if it's directed at garbage like Arcana Hearts, you have some nerve insulting people who are only trying to do the right thing.

Dude, you're on a Skullgirls forum. I don't think anyone here has the right to complain about monogender fighting games.

Skullgirls isn't monogender though, in fact the only reason I'm still here is because Beowulf won.
I would have lost all respect in the fandom if it decided that Skullgirls should keep an all female cast.

All Female/All Male casts for anything is bullshit. I'm happy that Splatoon isn't doing that.

Well, even if they did, it is called Skullgirls not Skullpeople. That would be false advertising.

I think you're forgetting the pre-Big Band days. Also, I really hope you're just trolling.
