Street Fighter V

Sad that the Beta will only be for US players.

Charlie looks cool, I guess.

Getting a Wesker vibe from Charlie, especially with the teleports.

An interesting comparison of SFIV and SFV:

Language on the Playstation website implies, but does not confirm, that the beta will be pre-order only. It would be a very bold move to have a big open beta Evolve-style, something very unlike Capcom and Japanese developers in general, but I think it would be interesting as a way to reinforce balance changes/get more people a chance to get into the game.

aw cripes, now i don't want to touch this game with a 120 meter long pole. Why did they have to make Charlie a Frankenstein's monster? they could have just said he survived his battle with Dictator and was forced to recover for a long time. I don't know why he now has teleports, like just, why? no this is something i can't get behind, it's just... no. Knee Jerk reaction.

I'm not worried. We can wait and see how the game develops; it's not like they're ignoring reactions and suggestions. Last time checked our Skullgirls was a very different game from when it was first shown or even when it was released but (arguably) greatly improved and continues to improve over time from fan feedback and Mike's own ideas.

That said, I like the meaty, weighty feel of hits in SFV so far and I like how the combo system seems more lenient (though some tight links still appear to exist), but movement looks a bit slow for my taste. However, with the amount of people noting the speed I'm sure it will be adjusted.

I thought that trailer was cool. Charlie's one of my favorites, so I'll admit that seeing him in action again is making me a bit more interested in this game. I'll miss the old Charlie, but I'm glad they're not pulling a Gouken with him, and instead are showing us that the story's events have actually messed him up in multiple ways.

I'd love to think that Gill was involved in his resurrection this time, but it's probably just gonna be Shadaloo again (I'm not all that hype about Bison tbh). This might mean that all of the Shadow Charlie stuff is now canon though, which is interesting.

It's because in Canon (which still has not revealed if this is before or after 3) Charlie was Killed during the events of the Alpha Trilogy. The Frankenstein parts are from what I would guess whatever reanimation techniques they are using for his body.

Also, I am suprized no one else here has said it: the day they gave us this trailer and 4th character reveal was epic....But for Bison, it was Just Tuesday. *shot*

they've been implying since forever that Charlie lived and had shit done to him
this is basically shadow dude from marvel or whatever
except cool

I wonder if the gray patches are synthetic or just the parts of his/someone else's body that didn't 100% survive. Anyway, he's rocking the new Frankenstein's Monster look, very Victor-ish. Bison's outfit now having a trenchcoat a part of the look is cool, too.

Speaking of, the art and graphics got a major buff from the first build, looks much better and slightly more stylized, now.
I love the new look (it really shows the tragic path that his war has taken him in), and I've been pouring over every minor detail (like the blue buttons on the cargo pants or how only his right side is greyed). I discussed this on another board, but I don't think he's patched with someone else, but rather wounds patched closed after being treated somehow thus making it black. If you look at his face and hairline, the patched part of his face looks like his undamaged parts (even has his eyebrows), there's no weird break in his hair either. I think he was badly burned in the alpha 3 explosion and those parts were repaired by the Secret Society / Gill's Illuminati and then when he got the Third Eye gem and shadow abilities he partially changed.

I'd love to think that Gill was involved in his resurrection this time, but it's probably just gonna be Shadaloo again (I'm not all that hype about Bison tbh). This might mean that all of the Shadow Charlie stuff is now canon though, which is interesting.
I actually DON'T think it's Bison or Shadaloo that did this. He's more coherent and calm than any of Bison's test subjects have been shown. He's not crazy, sadistic, or robotic like the Dolls. The most he does is say "If you try to stop me...I'll have to kill you." He doesn't say he'll kill you if you challenge but rather try to STOP him(from his mission). He seems rather calm actually. I think he's just on the warpath to kill Bison at any cost and won't suffer fools.

I rather think he begrudgingly accepted Gill's offer to be loyal to the Secret Society if he would kill Bison and in return he'd heal Charlie (I don't know if he ever died now). I think another big point is the Third Eye Gem that only Gill and Urien have (as far as we've seen), that's pretty significant in my opinion. Especially since the "lowly experiments" like Necro, Effie, Twelve, or even Kolin, Gill's beloved right hand woman lack it, yet Charlie has one.

Another thing is, Gill and Urien's G-Projects and such deal with genetic manipulation, but not brainwashing. Gill is not a good guy by any means, but not outright evil either. He's an extremist cult leader who's got his bizarre goals, but he doesn't seem to alter people's will the way Bison does. So I really think Charlie, as we now see him is not a Shadaloo product.

So many places for this to go! I'm excited for the future!

If you watch the trailer closely, you can see that Ryu has had his normals changed from the last build. At the very least, he has his SFII/SFIV cr.mk back and not his SFIII/Evil Ryu cr.mk.

I KNOW that Charlie was "killed" by Bison in that game. it just doesn't look good and overall doesn't feel right. (Why not make him have cyber parts, kinda like Cyber Gouki that would be cooler.) And come on giving Charlie teleports is like the laziest way to make a character have a mixup game. Why didn't they give him charged sonic booms? or what about the ones that Seth has in Omega where they hover in place for a second and then zip across the stage, that would be a lot more faithful to Charlie's fighting style and would make for a far more interesting character to play as instead of ambiguous crossups via teleport. I'm my eyes Capcom dropped the ball when it comes to making Charlie come back both in gameplay showing and visual appearance, i know that other people will be like, "I think he's cool, and i love teleports." but to be honest I'm not longer feeling this game.

I actually prefer the frankenstein parts
they're cartoony enough that it makes me think that they aren't taking the game's presentation too seriously
and allowing it to be fun and over the top, while being able to be kinda serious?
i dunno
just looks like a good balance

I'd love to see them approach the story like how you've described, and suggest a kind of turf war between these malicious organizations, but I'm not willing to give the writers that much credit yet. Seth was one of Bison's tests and he ended up pretty calm, and seeing Charlie willing to kill Chun Li at all is already way out of his character. Shadaloo's just got too much going on at this point to really dismiss them yet.

Seth is kind of a gray area with this whole thing anyway. Given the ambiguous links to Gill that we see between Seth and Charlie, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Capcom just wrote off all of these guys as being part of Shadaloo's "remaining 26" or whatever. Linking Gill and Urien to Bison like that would be really disappointing to me, but y'know, disappointment is something I've come to expect from Capcom.

Still, I want this game to be a stronger sequel than IV, so I'll remain a mild optimist. Hopefully they reveal some brand new characters to us soon.

Interesting points! In regards to Seth, he was supposed to be like Abel at one point and then be completely subservient as a host body, but when he gained self awareness he was no longer just a tool of Bison (didn't help him much in the end though). In regards to him wanting to kill Chun li, it seems like all the characters have just a generic before battle phrase at this point; Chun Li says the same thing to Chuckles as she does to Ryu. I think, due to their history (and almost romance, rowr) there will be a different reaction in the final game.

Good point on Seth! I am really curious if they'll bring up Seth and the 'Mazin' Gil brothers' connections. It was too intentional for it to be a simple case of animation laziness, so here's hoping it's something interesting.

Agreed, I hope that story is more important this time around and they push forward with things. They've got a bunch of Sony money now, they can use the in game engine for intros and outros (or pre-render), so no money needed to go to hiring an anime studio, and also Ono is aware of the calls for a better storyline, he mentioned a while back how he wanted to do more with SF4's narrative, but it didn't turn out. So here's hoping for the best!

I must say, these character combo videos look good, how do I say this where people will understand my points though..I hope people namely high level players don't make this game boring as shit if you want me to explain I will, other than that I made my point

From what we've seen, the demo build they've had playable is more SFIV slow, but the Charlie trailer seems noticable sped up for what we see even from Chun-li, an already fast attacker even in the slower SFIV. I'm thinking V will be closer to IV in style and execution, but it already seems faster than IV. Hoping they take a few things from the earlier games, yeah. Hoping with this Illuminati Charlie that guys like Necro and Q make their return! SF III had some of the weirdest characters in the series (though Hakan from IV was pretty wierd).

I honestly hope some of the final fight guys return, mostly Guy and Cody, maybe finally give a slot to Haggar, or at least Zangief a Haggar skin. Maybe bring back Alex? Bring back some of the other Final Fight idiots, too XD

Yeah, I'd liek to see Sodom return, but mostly cause I thought he was a funny character.

man, Sodom is the best Japanophile.
I want him back so bad.

Half the time, I was pretty sure he had no idea what was going on and was really just there. Like, Mad Gear! He just thinks it's one big party! XD
We could use a few more ridiculous comedy characters as opposed to these more serious ones.

AFAIK Charlies gonna be my main, with denjin Ryu as a backup.
I like Decapre very much (tho i suck with her) and i see the same idea behind Charlie (mobile charge character with teleports and left/right mixups).

Also, i want to see non-joke Sean. With his tackle being actual command grab.

Sean would be cool. I never used him, but he was cool. I want to see Remy return, just because he felt more like a KOF fighter and didn't really seem like he did anything, and I think they could do more with him.

Speaking of the ending to Alpha II, the last appearance of Charlie, this nifty site collects the endings as sequential screenshots.

Charlie's ending: http://www.vgmuseum.com/end/arcade/a/sfa2cha.htm

The final exchange cracks me up:

Underling: Commander Bison. Should we send a "recon" unit to confirm his death?
Bison: No. No one could survive that fall
Bison: Even if he is alive, he won't be back.
Bison: Now he knows that everyone has a price.

Charlie was shot in the back by a military helicopter and plummeted into a waterfall. Keep in mind, the chopper was firing at least 30mm rounds -- bullets bigger than Coke bottles.

Now he's back and instead of "Charlie" he's listed by his last name, Nash (gotta get used to calling him Nash!). Nash's patchwork arm and face fit too well together to call him Frankenstein's monster. Rather than being a cobbled-together corpse, it looks like just gray, necrotic tissue.

So Nash is the Squigly/Ms.Fortune of the cast. The undead guy.

Nash is Charlie's Japanese name. They changed his name to Charlie in the US version and the Japanese team decided to just roll with it and made his full name Charlie Nash. So now he goes by his first name in the US version and his last name in the Japanese one.

If Capcom really wanted to make people go crazy, they'd call him "Gerdenheim's monster"

Yeah, I can only see Vampire references in this.

Charlie Nash sounds pretty cool for a name, though. Definately feels like a fitting name for the guy XD

Im not a really a fan of Ken but is it weird that they haven't showed Ken yet? He is like a series staple.

It would be scummy if they made Ken as a DLC Character but Capcom would be making bank. I wouldn't be surprise if capcom did this cause their financial situation is not looking so hot right now.

Ken's in bud. Capcom may have issues, but when have they withheld something like this? Yeah, they did on-disc DLC BS and issues with Asura's Wrath, but holding back a character who is the other half of the face of Street Fighter? I can't see them doing that.

They didn't reveal Ken, cause its safe to say Ken is a slightly different Ryu, in my mind market wise, why not reveal variety instead of reveal trailer with hadoken vs hadoken when we could show off our female lead along with our main character and to get people hype, later a fan favorite Decharpre I mean Nash yes...Nash

the female lead of the game will be R. Mika, obviously

Her butt will be leading, if that's what you mean.
