The Smash Bros Discussion Thread

I've decided to start a daily video series on what music I'd like to hear in this game.
Nothing special, but it'll help pass the time as well as hopefully introduce people to wonderful, underrated (or sometimes overrated, but still) tracks.

You know todays, cause I already linked it here, but tomorrows is actually something I had to sort of arrange myself!

Speaking of the music in the game, Brawl had a lot of direct original Nintendo music just copy and pasted into the game while some of it was remastered or remixed in some way. Do you think that they'll be doing about the same amount of that in Smash 4? I predict that we'll be seeing a lot more copy and pasting from other games since there's been so many good ones since Brawl came out. There's 2 whole generations of pokemon they can add in, several mario games, a new luigi's mansion, Metroid Other M, and a plethora of other games to choose from. What do you think?
 
I'm expecting a 1 to 10 ratio for remixes to direct rips.
That's not a bad thing, mind you, because remember, Brawl had almost 400 songs. I can imagine the WiiU version having that if not more and the 3DS one coming close.

I think for orchestrated music like in Galaxy or Skyward Sword won't need a remix so much as a remaster (basically better quality) but older songs like from Mega Man 2 will most likely get a modernized remix.
 
Yeah the Brawl soundtrack was/is awesome! Actually listening to it at work today, haha.
 
Of all the stages from the Galaxy games to choose, they use the Gateway Galaxy....sigh. But whatever, it's still pretty cool! I hope you can go completely upside down on the planet. For stage hazards I can see the bowser ship in the background shooting meteors at you.

You can see part of the Good Egg Galaxy on the right, I think.

And notice how they call it "Mario Galaxy", it could be another "Tour" level, but eh, who knows.

This. I hope it's a tour level where the shooting star pops up in the center and players scramble to get into it and after a certain time, it shoots the players to the next planet and all those who didn't make it lose a life :P

Sounds super fun to be honest.

What kinda stages do you want in Smash, from any franchise, really.
If they double dip or not.
What I kinda want...
Mario: Mario Kart (7 Version, Wii U), Bowser's Castle (3DS)
Zelda: Windfall Island (Wii U version, could also be returning Cruise), Forsaken Fortress (Wii U), Lorule (3DS), The Temple of Time (3DS)
Pokemon: N's Castle (3DS), Team Flare Secret HQ (3DS), Pokemon Colosseum (Wii U, definitely gonna come), Pokemon Floats 2 (Wii U)
3DS: Swap Note, 3DS menu (every so often, the "user" goes to a different "block", which changes the stage, stage takes place on the upper screen, zooms out to show the lower screen when it changes)
Wii U: Miiverse (not sure how it'd work, Mii cameos up the wazoo though)
 
This is the first reveal since Megaman that has gotten me excited about the new Smash Bros... good thing this announcement is really cool. I am now mildly more hyped for this game. I hope we get to see more soon :)

The only thing that upset me about SMG2 was the fact that Miyamoto pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del for it's story. Extremely disappointing, there was so much to work with.
 
I hope the Pilotwings stage gets some Pilotwings 64 music.


Also, I'd better see Mount Rushmore in there somewhere.

probably just a background object, I really hope that the stage isn't rotating but platforms do
 
Every time a stage is revealed there's a few days of showing it off before we get back to regular stuff.

Besides, we have the 22nd to look forward to. We can't not get a reveal, because there are THREE first party Nintendo games coming out.
You can't use the Pokemon X and Y non-reveal as an argument because that's second party. These are FIRST party.

That sounds fun! The platforms "orbit" the stage so to speak. I think I'd like that.

See, I love it for that reason. That said, I can't imagine playing it that much on 3DS. Especially without online. I think I'll skip that one.
Now, Mario Party 10 on WiiU? That shit will be a day 1 purchase just because of how much craziness can arise from the GamePad.
Let's just hope they go back to the 1/2/3/4 style, and not the car thing from 9.

Exactly... This one, I might not enjoy so I'll wait until 10 because the main series is usually pretty good. I hope for 4 separate players as well. I like screwing my friends over.

The ones I approve of are still there.
 
Haven't played a Smash game since melee so the new Super Smash Bros would probably be a good point for getting back into this series.

Well, you only really missed one: Brawl.
It should be cheap to pick up, it's a lot of fun. Sure it's not "competitive" but you can have loads of fun with it. Even the story mode, while commonly regarded as lackluster, is a lot of fun on your first playthrough.

And, when you're done, you can install Project M to make it competitive and balanced.

Tripping is the only problem with the game. The rest of it is fun.

I don't see why there's such a hatedom towards Brawl. It's a 10/10 game that people say is completely ruined by that one feature.
 
Even if we don't get a new character this month, I still say it was a pretty good month, just for the Super Mario Galaxy stage.

But yeah, those are my predictions for the possibilities.
I refuse to believe Tingle will ever be playable though

Nah, the game is fine. Tripping REALLY isn't that bad.

It's just Sakurai totally killed it by allowing people to cancel hitstun. Comboes literally don't exist. It's just hit to hit and the speed is super slow. It's a little sluggish and the attacks don't FEEL very powerful even when they're intended to be. It's just blah to me.
 
Okay I think from what I'm hearing I won't go out of my way to get brawl but I will try it if someone has it, so I guess I will probably wait for the new one to be released.

Would there be that many minigame options the Wii U can support that the DS/3DS can't? I mean really, the Wii U is just the 3ds if the top screen were a TV and the bottom screen were a gamepad. In fact, I think one of the things that would get me to buy one is an adapter that lets you play DS/3DS games through the Wii U, like the super gameboy. That would be fucking amazing.

Honestly brawl isn't bad at all if you want to play it casually. It's just that, if you want to get into it, you should probably go for melee instead.

Considering Kid Icarus's online is flawless on 3DS, I'd imagine it would be good.

And yeah, Tingle is never going to be playable. There's a lot of characters people are actually vying for that have no chance in hell of getting in. Owain? I mean he's cool (and Keiji Tang-ful) but there's no chance.

While we shouldn't ignore the fact we can get bolts-from-the-blue (I'm looking at ROB), honestly the roster will most likely be really 'safe'.

Yeah, because of the ability to tandem use Wiimotes and GamePad, as well as the fact that it's asymmetrical. The other players see the TV, while one can see the GamePad. Plus, there's the fact that I believe Mario Party should be a multiplayer-only experience, and by having it on console it's more sociable to huddle around the TV than sitting around each with their 3DS.

Oh, I totally agree. I'm a casual player, and to me Brawl is just fun.
I know people hate that word in the gaming community as it's just "an excuse when you can't defend a game", but I go back to Brawl a lot more than Melee simply because of characters, stages, and overall feeling.
