Fire Emblem

The problem is that even if you ignore it, it's still there. To bring the house metaphor, it's like if you painted dead cats on your dog-door as a joke. People in the neighborhood know it's a joke, some are okay with it, and even if their not, they can fairly safely just avoid your house. But, if there's a vacancy and a family is thinking about moving in, they may be put off by it. Maybe they don't get that it's supposed to be a joke, maybe they do but don't think it's funny, whatever. Point is, they are put off by it and don't move in. Would it have killed you to just paint over it?
Holy shit you're still running with this metaphor.

If people don't want to move into a awesome housing development with decent neighbors because one of them has a dog house in the backyard(because I don't know anyone with a dog house in the front anymore, or if it's in front there's a huge gate because if there wasn't the home owner would be legally liable for whatever happened) painted in a way the family finds off putting then cool?

@Squire Grooktook Yeah, that dark fantasy that's always been silly as shit. Now we just have show able moments of physical intimacy, sexual or otherwise.

I never said he can't do it.
but if it's optional and I can ignore it, then I can ignore it.
constantly thinking about it is not ignoring it.
that's your problem if you can't.
and if you can't then you have every right to not play his game as a consumer.

But I'm not the one who cares. I would still probably buy the game, shit I would still probably buy both versions.
I don't give a shit.
But there are people who do, and those people would be put off from playing the game because of it.

DONT!
PLAY!
IT!

i would link Eminem's just don't give a fuck, but I get the same result by just typing this.

Butthurt that this game has this thing you don't like that you never have to see to the point you won't buy it? Uhhhhhh I think you're a fucking weirdo but go for it.

There are vore scenes in Monster Girl Quest that I have NEVER seen because I don't like that shit, it's optional, and I turned them off.

I was actually kinda talking about my own game which takes some influence from Berserk and Metal Black Still though, IMO as an escapist work it crosses that all important line that divides "whimsy and zest" from "indulgence and cringe". Awakening indulged itself more then previous games, but did it smarter and worked wonderfully. This just teeters on the edge and plunges gracelessly into the abyss of cringe.

Yo Monster Girl Quest has these OPTIONAL SCENES THAT SHOW ME BEING EATEN THAT STRAIGHT UP TELL ME I CAN TURN THEM OFF

THIS GAME IS WORSE FOR THAT, REMOVE IT

Hey this call of duty has a part where I mow down innocents trying to implicate another culture of a heinous crime, IT'S TOTALLY OPTIONAL BUT IT'S IN THE GAME, MAN FUCK THAT GAME

Like what? It doesn't affect you, at all, in the slightest.

I knew there would be a debate about the petting mini-game being removed from Fire Emblem. To be honest I don't like censorship in games, simple as that. But I have to ask, does the petting mini-game even serve a purpose?

Completely subjective, and that's cool.

So you're all for people not playing a really good game because of what is a super minor addition that adds nothing of substance?

YES!

BECAUSE THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT NOT TO! do you get upset if someone doesn't play Skullgirls because they don't like fighting games?

if you do, then you're an asshole.

I'm all for fucbois staying fucbois over a topic that will never see their eyes if they don't want it to.

Seriously, ban all BBW shit from the porn sites because an otherwise awesome porn site may be ruined by this thing you will never see if you don't search for it.

You know what, the same for gay sex, and interracial sex, fuck it. EVERYTHING THAT'S NOT MISSIONARY GOES AWAY.

Everything that's not what I like doesn't get to exist in this thing in any way, shape or form because someone who may not like it know's it's there somewhere and will run away.

Like, if this changed the rating of the game then we'd be having a discussion, but since no one has brought that up even once, I'm going to assume that's not the problem.

well, considering Project Diva F 2nd also has petting, ALSO OPTIONAL, then I HIGHLY DOUBT IT!

I can't help but feel your all overstating how important it is to the structure of the game that this one mechanic that gets you maybe 10 support points stays untouched.

If taking away a harmless thing you don't have to invovle yourself in makes you feel better, you're probably a little fucked.

Well here's the thing. You have the while patting scenario removed, because some people would find it offensive. This same argument can be said about the same sex marriages that were removed from the game. It offended some people. Anybody can find anything offensive if they perceive it the way they want. It becomes petty. I know you can say this is the slippery slope argument, but I think it does aptly apply to this. You could argue they're gonna take away combat from FE, and instead everyone's just gonna swing nerf bats at each other until someone gives up.

What?

I preorded the bundle edition forever ago, before I even knew anything beyond the game past the trailer.

I will buy this game, I will like this game, I will be sad that I didn't get to pet my waifu.

Like Ruin said earlier, it was strictly a business decision. People in the west didn't like it, so Nintendo took it out for them.

IMO it makes the work more tonally cohesive, and is what they should have done in the first place. Is that subjective? Yes. Everything in entertainment is completely subjective. But that's my opinion, and probably an opinion shared by many, from the looks of thing.

That doesn't make it right, there is no right or wrong in entertainment. Nintendo just chose the option that appeals to more people. In this case, I theoretically prefer that decision but would rather it was one they made from the outset. Instead of embroiling everyone in this age old discussion.

Did anyone gauge this? Or did Nintendo guess?

Because I saw a bunch of opinions ranging from "cool" to "dont care" to "ew".

They were probably doing focus tests and whatnot, perhaps on the WIP localized version.

So they were doing that notoriously bad thing that's been proven time and time again to not really work?

I sure hope not.

Roughly 90% of porn videos (No exact numbers, I haven't checked the dates in at least a month), the entire genere of the game, and the entire genre of a different game is a little bit above 'rub your stylus over your Waifu's face'.

That doesn't make it right, there is no right or wrong in entertainment.
that is the most paul marketing thing I have ever read in my entire life ever.

I'm just gonna quite what a fan voice actor I really like said when asked about it
do you agree that fire emblem fates should be censored/more politcally correct?
I 100% disagree with any form of censorship when games get localized; when NA is getting vidya from other countries, I want the game to be as close to the experience the original country got as possible!
I can understand dialogue being changed completely because some things only work in some languages and not in others, but as far as features getting removed, I am suuuper against that. If a feature exists in a game that people don't like, you A: don't use the feature if it's optional or B: don't buy the game!

Also, while I can't find any source of the FE:Fates censorship being 100% confirmed (kotaku isn't always reliable), I want to mention a completely different game, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd doesn't even -have- romance in it but you can pet all the characters in it, but I guess because it's not a Nintendo game, it goes unnoticed

MAYBE I SHOULD BE GLAD IT STAYS UNNOTICED THOUGH, because while it's a silly feature for these weeb games to have, it's just one tiny, completely optional portion of the game, and I guess if consumers complain hard enough, devs/producers/whoever handles marketing just have to bend to people's will and remove the original creative vision of their game. I HOPE I RAMBLED COHERENTLY ENOUGH I'M SORRY D: CENSORSHIP BAD

Kind of my point really.

There aren't people moving into homes, I'm assuredly not having dogs fight to the death and burying them in shallow graves, and I promise you my spoiled asshole of a dog is not in a doghouse, he's at my feet on my bed right now.

You know what else doesn't "tonally fit"?

Fucking gross ass Pheonix and Casual mode.

But we let those weird tonal shifts rock.

... But it's accurate? Basically everything in entertainment is a personal taste thing.
so the removal of the gem on gem kissing in Steven Universe is justified because it's a personal taste thing?

because I'm against the removal of that for localization just like anything else.

Kind of my point really.

My point is that everyone is acting like they're taking away everything, and soon they're going to take away everything we know and love about Fire Emblem because the loacalizers decided to... remove a pointless minigame.

I did not say that. I merely said that all entertainment is subjective, and as much as I dislike it, the rubbing thing is a matter of taste. The rest is another matter...

And my point is why are people removing optional features that they haven't even tested the waters for yet?

A feature that other regions get?

not even, because again, Project Diva lets you pet your vocaloid, and nobody complains about that.

so clearly petting is something that can fly because IT'S COME OUT IN THE WEST!

Not really seeing where that came from, but if some people don't like it, than they're entitled to their opinion, and if the people who make the show decide to remove it on their own, that's their opinion, too.

That's a seperate issue entirely (I totally agree with you on this, BTW)

It's not just the minigame they removed. They also removed the same sex romances, something that offends a whole different group of people. You start trying to satisfy everyone, you satisfy no one. There's always going to be someone who finds objection to some kind of content, so at what point do you stop appeasing people, and do what you want? It's clear Nintendo wanted these features in the Japanese release, because they're in the game. So why is it ok in Japan and not in the US? That's my big question.

I like it because I like not having my units die.

but even then, if a unit dies, I will keep restarting that chapter every time.

To point 1:No, that's not what happened here. Intelligent Systems did not remove this mechanics from the game. Nintendo from America removed it from the American version. That is the same as Rebecca Sugar not removing the intimate undertones from SU, and the local broadcaster editing the scenes.

2. It's not a separate issue, if we're complaining about Fire Emblem Purity, get rid of those modes as well, because a game can never try new things, new OPTIONAL things.

...They didn't, though? They are reworking/altering a scene that involves gay conversion, but the same-sex S-Ranks are still in (For the two instances where it was possible). If you have evidence otherwise, then please.

You act like NoA can use the bathroom without the go-ahead from NoJ.

It's separate in the sense that the changes were made in different points of the process.

Phoenix and Casual mode make sense to me from a gameplay perspective. Multiple difficulty selections are always better IMO, due to the nature of skill.

The petting thing, to many of us, just feels tone deaf and in poor taste. That's an opinion and may not justify changing it in localization though, but like I said, I'm not shedding any tears for it.

Only thing worth mentioning: did Intelligent Systems get a say in that? I imagine NOA would have to at least run it by them before they locked off part of the games code.

this is factually incorrect
