^^^Oh yeah, I definitely agree. Sorry, sarcasm can be hard to read on the internet sometimes (as I'm sure we've all experienced by now), and I hadn't heard Combofiends comments.
It's actually an interesting subject. I'd summarize by saying that it heavily depends on your own personality, but is also seldom so black and white.
I've often fancied myself as someone who prioritizes the gameplay. I often say that I'd play my favorite fighters even if all sprites/models were removed in favor of stick figures, and usually when I pick up a fighter, I'll quickly run through each character in training mode before settling on whichever one "feels" the most fun. There are exceptions though. Sometimes I'll pick a character because they're my waifu I really like their aesthetic and concept. I played Arthur in MVC3 purely because of my enduring love for his franchise, for instance.
Regardless, that argument is not a defense of Marvel/Capcom so much as an unintentional acknowledgement of how little a fuck they give. Something that stands in stark contrast to the way Capcom used to handle their properties, treating everything from Marvel to Predator to Dungeons and Dragons with utmost respect and care.
I wouldnl't take any defenses that players like Combofiend have to say too seriously anyway. Remember that these dudes make a livelihood off of playing these games competitively. As such they are biased towards saying what they can to grow the scene. It doesn't matter how trash modern Capcom is and how trash what they put out is: it's where the money, advertising, and scene is.
