Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra

Anybody else see parallels between the episodes "Korra Alone" and "Zuko Alone"? Sucks that I can't access TLA at this time...

btw Toph is Yoda.

I think that's why they chose to go with that title. If that's so, then that's a great throwback.

And that's why we love her.

Korra sucks (imo)
Regular Avatar: Great (imo)

You wanna elaborate or something?
I mean, I guess if you don't that's fine but we're not gonna get any discussion out of it.

remember how at the first season Andrea Romano said that the cast of the first series may have well have all been dead for how important they are

I like to look back at that and see how things have changed
at the end of the day, we only lost Aang (obviously), and Sokka (rip)
Katara, Zuko, and Toph all made it and they're all really memorable even after 70 years have past

I'm happy to see Toph and everything, but her design is slightly disappointing. It's like kid Toph was blasted with an aging gun. Same clothes, same hairstyle, same snark, but now gray and old. I know the creators are aiming for some easy character recognition, but I think they went a little too far. Too many elements stayed the same. After several decades, some things should change. It didn't read as a mature Toph, more like old Toph having a mid-life crisis in her kid costume.

Other than that, the best animated show on television (not on television D: ) in the Western Hemisphere is going great.

I thought they did good at amping up the cynicism and detached quality of her character that her younger self didn't have.
And also her fighting style involved a lot less moving around.

But she probably coulda used a wardrobe change or something.

Toph is really enjoying being Grandma Swamp

i gotta play shovel knight again.

I feel like,
this post I made elsewhere pretty much sums up my thoughts on the episode.

Holy shit Zhu-Li.

But also, like

holy shit, Zhu-Li.

Welp. Why did I take so long to post here. I've been into Legend of Korra since that first episode aired, and I'm a huge fan of the original. I've seen this thread time and time again but never posted anything here. *Waves to everyone* Hellooooo everyooone, gonna be saying stuff here soon.

Eh, Zhu Li deserves better.

B-but Varrick named his battleship after her ;-;

He also named a weight measurement after her.

One that somehow consists of less than what she actually weighs.

I mean, we all know that Zhu Li <3 Varrick and will free him later in the season.

and come on Varrick is finally showing signs that he's not a complete jerk, which i kinda like and kinda not. (jerk Varrick is good comic relief.)

Yeah, I doubt Zhu Li will betray Varrick that easily, even though he does take her for granted.

well i doubt that 1 Varrick has as much energy as Varrick himself...probably

ZHU LI NO

WHY DID YOU DO THE THING
I read this earlier today and was like "Hm... Did I miss something?". Then I watched the newest episode and said "OH MY GOD, NO, DON'T DO THE THING, PLEASE"
I KNEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW this was gonna bite Varrick in the butt, he literally was never kind to her. Also. I love how Varrick always say "Zhu-Li, do the thing!", and now Zhu-Li said "Soldiers... Do the thing!". Genius.

I was taken surprise by her betrayal at first, but then I remembered I thought to myself around season 2 "she's totally gonna betray him" so technically I wasn't surprised because I had already thought about it, but I've long since forgotten about it, so technically it was a surprise--

How come "Yo, I saw your mother" was not the first thing Korra said to Suyin?

Toph was a grumpy swamp lady
probably told korra that she would kick her shit in if she told anyone where she was

Toph stayed in the swamp for the same reason Quicksilver stayed home in X-Men: Days of Future Past. They are so overpowered, any problems would be instantly solved so they need to get out of the way of the plot.

And I'm joining the side that Zhu Li's betrayal is all an elaborate ruse. However, I expect Varrick will be held captive long enough that he makes a spirit vine nuke for Kuvira to drop on Republic City or Ba Sing Se. Kuvira is slowly going Magneto "might is right" tyrant mode (two X-Men references in one post, what is wrong with me...)

Favorite parts of this episode.
"Hey, what happened to that guy? Oh, didn't you hear? He Varrick'd himself because some girl Zhu Li'd him!"
"You try to pull me away from this thing, and I'll hit this remote, and blow it immediately!"
"Why do you have a timer and a remote?"
"Well first, I built the timer, but then I thought, you could drag me off the train. So then, I built a remote, but then I thought, well do I really need the timer anymore? Because I got a remote and my hi- WHATEVER

YOU'RE CRUSHING MY INDIVIDUALISM!

Also, I'm getting serious Azula vibes from Kuvira. She's pinnacle-perfection physically, but I really don't think she's right in the head.

She didn't seem right in the head, like, 10 seconds of her being on screen.
