Ugh. I'm hitting that "Online Play" wall with a win percentage of around 10%.

I'm beginning to think I may not be good at fighting games. Or just this one.

Either way its super discouraging and I'm now sorta just trying to work out those last matches to get that 100 matches achievement while there are players online.

Give it time. I keep bringing up FSD, but they're generally helpful towards new players.
Ranked is also a bad place to start out as you get boosters and folks who were originally high ranked players who are working to get their rank back. I'd just avoid it in general if you don't want to feel bad after playing.

I only use Ayane. Why? She was free with the free version of the game. The swtich between back and forth stance thing usually annoys me (like playing Leo Whitefang or a number of Tekken and Soul Calibur characters), but I don't really mind with her...I dunno why. Maybe it's just how she flows into the two stances?
 
Lisa is best girl.
 
DoA's cast is, honestly, kinda bland feeling. The male characters all feel pretty unique and look varied, but the female cast kinda blur togethor in a bunch of areas...It rubs me the wrong way. It may because I'm not familiar with enough of them yet, though, as I'm pretty new and have been off and on with DoA, so we'll see...

Played a bit more today. 10 matches.

Lost every fight. Got triple perfected a few times. I'm feelin' pretty rough.

I can see why getting into a new game is not usually considered an easy experience.

Actually, aside from the initial backlash most people seem to enjoy her. Personally out of the five dlc/new characters she's tied for second with Marie Rose in my character rankings. Nyo-Tengu is first.

That's who I'm maining.

She's fun, but I think her normals may be a bit slow. Especially when online play is factored in.
 
there is a reason why people pick the females more often than the males.
speed can be an important factor.
 
If you want speed pick Christie, Sarah or Gen Fu.

Or pick best girl, Lisa.
 
if you wan't speed and hype, just pick Jacky.

and if you want fun characters, pick up Momiji.
 
well sometimes something cool can happen with all these bugs

the patch on the 360/XB1 version will have an old style button press code to unlock all the non-DLC costumes and other unlockable things due to players losing their saves. (press RT+RB+LT+LB at the Help & Options menu)

The 360 patch is already out.
 
I haven't picked this game back up in forever. I used to main Ayane (cause I didn't get any extra characters after the 4 free ones), what's a good way to get back into the groove of the game? Go through arcade modes on hardest? Tutorial? Jump right into online? I normally spam the arcade on highest difficulties until I can go without losing and feel I know the character before attempting online. any tips?
 
As far as I can tell, harder arcade modes just read your inputs and this is a game based on counter mix-ups, meaning the CPU is pretty much not a good way to learn anything

tutorial is in-depth, but has some troublesome things that are a bit too tough for a beginner lesson.

go through command training and then practice a bit with the arcade I guess.
 
i was busy all day today and got online to see this costume thing means DOA is big news again? and i saw an interesting twitter post linked and posted on various sites.

Some people are overly prude that would do anything to please people that don't and won't give a damn to them

Come on, banning a bikini costume will magically make DoA accepted by professional complainers that can't accept that a character that looks good and kicks ass can be seen as powerful too? Good gameplay and a well mantained scene with events and tournaments will, Enforcing a minimum skirt size rule won't.

And i never saw anyone complaining that Joe Higashi, Adon and Sagat fought countless games in shorts only with all these unreal muscles showing.
 
well, DoA already has good gameplay.

problem is nobody will play it and a lot of people who manage it get butthurt over any kind of joke or criticism at tourneys.

this soft ban also isn't getting the game any more respect if you take a look at Event Hubs' comment section.

You should know that most of the DoA community is against it, but their opinions are disregarded as they don't go to tourneys. It's really easy for the offline players to say the people who can't go for whatever reason that they don't matter when it suits them.

DoA is banning some costumes from competitive play? This game gets competitive play? It's great, dun get me wrong, but it just doesn't really have as much...oomph? Going with oomph. To it from a local perspective as other fighters. IMHO of course.

It isn't as flashy, but it's a good fighter. This whole things once again makes the western players look bad is it gives a mad vibe of "Boobs are soooo groooss!" "We should ban these outfits to make ourselves look better to the people who will laugh at us anyway".

I say put the game on OMG mode and take your lumps.

SG and KoF have boobs and nobody complains. in fact, it's a selling point for some people.

Oh I know it's a good game. I enjoy it quite a bit. Not on the level of SG, mind you, but it's still fun.

Lol at the effort people put into costumes. I can't be only one that's loved the game for its story and characters.
