Forum Problems and Feature Requests

Why not? To avoid flooding it with people?

Feature request: site-wide announcement with hyperlink to essential Skullgirl stream. Specifically the Rebel Up! or Salty streams that often feature updates and announcements.
The reason we don't do this is because the more often you see those banners, the less likely you will be to pay attention to them over time. Salty and Rebel up happen regularly enough that most people would not find the notification useful and makes them less likely to read one that is. The streams block that appears on the forum index should show the 3 currently active streams with the most viewers (and if one of those is live it should definitely appear there), so all I can do is suggest you use that.

Putting a direct link to the SG IRC would be good.
On SHv1 we actually had a link to the IRC, and I was eventually asked to remove it. I will state, though, that simply doing a google search for "skullgirls IRC" will be enough to find you instructions on how to join it on various sites.

Feature request: I want to be able to ignore threads, to avoid seeing them popping up on Recent Threads.

If you mean the block on the side of the index page, that's not possible as far as I'm aware.

Can we get something like this https://xenforo.com/community/resources/best-posts-uncover-your-top-content.3264/
Well tbh I don't know whether it is what I'm asking for, but it seems like it

Basically what I want is a way to search for
- All posts on the forum, sorted by Likes given (Most liked Post at the top)
- All posts in a given subforum or even thread, sorted by Likes given
- All posts by a certain user, sorted by Likes given

This would help me greatly in not missing out on bad puns, and it's obviously very interesting to see which post is the most liked one (in general or mine).

Basically this http://skullgirls.com/forums/index.php?members/&type=likes
Except for Posts instead of Users (and for Posts only by a certain person, etc..)

Firstly, let me list a few things that aren't going to happen:
  • There will never be a dislike/downvote button on posts
  • There will never be a more complex list of like/funny/interesting/etc. to give to posts. 'Like' is enough.
Other than that, I'm not opposed to the idea as I think it could be useful. The specific addon you linked has a license fee and I'm short on money, so I would either need someone to donate the money for the addon and/or for a large number of users to request the feature.

I sure don't want either of those!

Yeah, I noticed that; was just an example. I don't know whether there are free Xenforo Addons at all etc, I just posted the first google link.

I see. I'll have a look to see if there's anything free out there, but Xenforo's user support isn't wide enough that there are any guarantees.

Is there any way I can make certain boards invisible? Not sure anyone else would like that feature but it sounds handy so I don't see off topic and other undesirable things always on the recent threads thing.

While it seems possible, there are good site-lifespan reasons for not adding a feature like that so I'd want to see several people asking for the feature before I add it.

Huge Bug!!

Alerts > Show All..

Clearly this has to be "Personal Conversations" or similar.
That's what you get for insisting on a 24 hour clock. Fixed.

I didn't even know there was a 24h clock option.

Will start using it now.

Also, there's some extra stuff at the bottom that isn't there on the 12h version.
Not sure how to get rid of it.

Nevermind, found it.

Is there a way to get rid of the word "Skullheart" that rests above the upcoming events block?

It's kind of redundant since we have the title in the image above it.

I would like a Fan-Games Subform for Skullheart so that games like Skulldate and Super Skullgirls RPG won't be moved around everywhere

@Vadsamoht
Any chance of a drop down menu at the top to view the last... X threads you just 'POSTED' in?
I for example want to keep coming back to my Parasoul burst bait thread, but I have to go Forums > Gameplay > Parasoul > My thread.
Also there's no recent notifications because they get pushed aside the PSA thread.

Maybe a favorites tab? Idk, I'll just book mark it maybe.

Interesting idea, I'll look into it.

Why can I not edit all my posts anymore
I can edit some old posts, eg this http://skullgirls.com/forums/index.php?threads/diary-of-a-harmonica.3384/#post-113854
I can also edit/delete a post I fresh make

But most older posts don't have the buttons, I can only hit "Report"

I'm aware that that's a thing in Locked Threads, but it has spread to almost every single one (roughly suspecting I can only edit in the Harmonica thread due to myself being OP)

It seems like a 24 hour limit. There are posts I made yesterday that I can edit, but also ones I can't, and the ones I can't were slightly over 24 hours ago.

Seems that a time limit appeared for some reason. Fixed.

The time limit is part of the new rules we're setting up, but please remember they aren't finalized.

Also, the @Moderator tag broke.

The Moderator tag hasn't worked for a while.

I'd like to know which addon is used for the recent threads section. Looking at the source gives me nothing and google search led me to many (paid) ones. But all of them had the option to ignore updates of a specific forum/threads. So what Flotilla said about it probably being impossible to do so bothers me.
If it's possible to ignore the updates of a sub forum, I suggest that anything in the MadMan's Cafe doesn't appear in that section.

If part of your new rules really is that one can't edit a post older than 24 hours, you can toss the entire forum into the trash
Nah, this is obviously a bug. All the combo resources and shit would be utterly useless if old posts couldn't be modified. We're still tinkering with a lot of features in the back so some stuff may temporarily break over the next few days.

I feel like maybe life would have been easier if the mods didn't force a bunch of bad changes on everyone, without even explaining anything
Life would be easier without mods. Ours in particular just suck.

But without mods to keep things straight, SH would become the chan of fighting game forums, and that simply cannot happen.

You mean an extremely popular place that generates all the content the rest of the internet claims as their own? That's a bad thing, how?

Chans are popular for all the wrong reasons. They have no minimum quality standard, which means that trolling, shitposting and the like are once a second occurrences on those forums. They're also the main reason why some people think that the internet is solely used for porn and illegal activity. Plus, they're kinda bad for keeping things around for a while, as content gets deleted if it's not replied to for a bit.

If there was no staff, the site would implode due to severe limitations and sheer anarchy.

- Spambot advertisements asking if you want some viagra would take up half the threads.
- Further stream channel requests won't ever get added and currently accepted channels can simply play non SG games [not changing the tag] without fear of removal.
- Any further site bugs won't ever get addressed.
- Any further feature requests won't get addressed.
- Threads will get way more cluttered with derailed shitposting due to no fear of Mod enforcement.
- Front Page won't ever be used to promote certain important threads.
- No more sticky threads for the more important threads in the sections.
- Increased hostility between the members since there is no middleman to break it up.
- Reports would be useless since no one would read those reports.
- Newer members with low post count might not ever get to post since chances are their posts would be on moderation hold since they might be recognized as a potential spam-bot.
- Wouldn't be surprised if Lab 0 removes SH as 'official forum' status by removing the link to this site on the main Skullgirls website.
- Probably missing a bunch of other smaller things that happen daily to maintain site stability

No idea why anyone with a clear mind would think this is a good idea for a forum longevity ever. Funny thing is even with occasional controversial decisions happening by the staff such as this, there is always the possibility it can all be reversed. You can't really do that without a staff can you? Forums generally have a a certain standard to follow when you post. That standard is not meant to limit whatever sense of entitled freedom you have, but so the majority doesn't have to deal with the minority shit-posters disrupting their experience here by violating the rules which are mostly common sense things.

Your probably in the wrong site if you want an anarchy hub. If you want more "freedom" from mods then there is always SGG, Twitter, GameFaq, IRC chat, etc. The site would most likely shut-down before it ever becomes a pseudo 4chan wasteland.

It isn't, and I think it's a goofy idea myself. If someone wanted to be post #2 of the Robo-Fortune combo thread and post all their neat combos then three months later the next beta-to-retail update invalidates them all, it would be silly if they couldn't edit their post and a bunch of inaccurate information had to stay on the first page because of forum weirdness

It should be gone soon, though!

This and a number of things that have been put down to 'bugs' in the last few days haven't been. Someone deliberately went into the admin section and changed the numerical fields for the posting limits (I could dig up the logs for this if necessary, but there's no need for that) - some of the others were changed but I only set this one back to 0 because that's what the complaint was and I'm not going to go through and vet every change that is made. I also haven't changed any forum software components since this drama started so it's incredibly unlikely to be a problem with xenForo. You could argue that it's caused by an honest human error somewhere, if you insist, but it's a human nonetheless.

============

Also can we please keep the drama out of this thread? Because there's no guarantee that I'll check this site in any given period I need to be notified by email whenever there's a post outlining a potential problem with the site software so that I can give it priority if it's serious.

Yeah, sorry, I've been including human error in my 'bugs' when I mention them. Some forums getting tagged as requiring moderation when they don't need it, incorrect banning lengths, this case of people permanently being unable to edit stuff, etc. These are obviously things that were unintended, probably when someone was going into the forum settings to see if such and such a thing was possible, not actually errors in the xenForo software, which has been very cooperative.

Apologies to anyone who runs into these issues. If you do find any more, please let the mods or admins know!

Couldn't you reduce the maximum nick length to one where this doesn't happen?
Not like there is a decent nick which needs to be that long
(I don't really care either way)
