Now that I think about it, having an actual Norse mythology Beowulf that looks exactly the same as SG's would be hilarious.
I found this conversation on twitter showing how reluctant Lab Zero is in revealing the details of IP rights:
When they're rich enough to be able to do that without fucking themselves over.
Just speculating, but publisher deals make sense for wider franchises: Excellent game development doesn't necessarily mean excellent marketing or promotion materials. Or negotiations with big hardware companies like Sony. Or non-game expansions of the franchise (toys, comics, etc). If a publisher puts forward much of the money to develop a franchise in one media, it makes sense they'd want the power to spread it into other media.
There is something worse than never putting out a sequel, is giving the sequel to other people to work. :/that makes complete sence but that doesn't stop us from being upset when franchises we love our drove into the ground by publishers that don't care anymore. everybody here knows the love and work L0 put into this and will put into Indiv. and don't want to see a publisher say thanks for the idea than never put out a sequel or what not.
Call me crazy but I don't think anybody BUT Lab Zero is qualified to make another Skullgirls
I [dis]respectfully disagree with this statement. There are tons of bad 2D fighters developed by bad developers. Game design is an art, not a science.
It can mean lots of other things, actually. There are many different aspects to IP ownership - you can own merchandising rights, right of first refusal for a sequel, distribution rights, port rights...you can gain or lose rights depending on how much money you bring to the project, you can gain or lose rights depending on whether you are willing to make concessions in other areas...law is fun. We own exactly none of the Skullgirls IP, but that was a bum deal. :^P
Because the people with the money realize they can flex and the people without the money realize they must go along with it if they want the money from those people? That's capitalism.
The real basic answer to this is - we would go completely without a publisher in heartbeat IF it were in ANY way possible to raise the REAL cost of making a game completely without a publisher / from crowdfunding.
means that opinion doesn't matter if autumn decides to choose someone else to make a sequel, which was the point of this conversation. we love what you guys do and want for you guys to be able to have control. I can't wait for the crowdfund to throw money at you and really hope that you get to keep fleshing out these worlds that we love.
I have read one or more posts on this forum so yes i know this Kappa.

All that comment DOES mean is that we can't talk about the exact terms of the deal.

We'd love an angel investor (the term means "someone who gives money without expecting compensation beyond being repaid, and sometimes not even that") but publishers aren't those, and thus far we haven't found one of them willing to give us anything.

It IS NOT possible to do that, however, because most consumers do not realize what it really costs to make a game of a given scope/type.
Oh. Neat. (Neogaf knew for a week or so, hahaaa...)
JP fighters are just a bad, lol
Does look very garbage-like, I agree.
I fully expect them to take the HUE HUE HUE to 11.
The fuck is this shit?
I like it, but that mouth looks a bit ugly and unfitting.
