One Big Night! One Big Show! One Big Man! One Big Band! General Discussion

Hmm I think it happens late enough that it isn't too bad, but I think that is something that would not become apparent until people are very, very used to the matchup.

The fact that noone seems to be used to Squigly yet, makes me think that will take a long time.

im sorry but what is , two time and three time?

Big Band now says "TWO TIME!" on LK A-Train and "THREE TIME!" on MK A-Train.

I played tons of matches today after the VO change, and I don't think Two Time telegraphs too much at all.
A valid opinion.

22f is still really tight to jump on reaction.
An opinion that indicates you don't play fighting games enough. :^)

When does he say it currently? I haven't gotten to play the new build yet, but maybe he could say it during the active frames rather than the startup frames?

Unless he says something during the active frames already. Then ignore me.

I normally play either wearing headphones or with the sound off so I can't really comment on the A-Train audio cues. I just popped into this thread to point out that when Big Band whiffs a grab he can say "balony!" or "apple sauce!", and that's great.

If you think that 22f is something that can be consistently reacted upon in any situation, even in the pressure that LK A-Train is most useful in, you can always delay when he says it by 10 frames or so into startup. I honestly don't think it's going to be a massive deal either way, though.

He says it during startup.

I haven't tried it out yet, but with the way A-Train works I think it would sound cooler if he says those Two time Three time lines when they hit instead of during start-up.

I was thinking the same.

@Detective Q: I don't know if you already noticed or told about it here but do a charge move and then do the "emergency brakes" and you have your favorite "line" in the game ;)

I seriously did not notice this until you pointed it out. Woops. But you’re right: Q-esque grunts FTW!

Also, adding something to the JoJo-account again: Big Band says "Stardust" sometimes during Giant Step. No DDB, has nothing to do with Annie, don’t even try.

And an update to my previous post: I had a blast playing online yesterday. Had a lot of good players to train my Big Band with, it was a lot of fun. I think I met some players from the Skullheart too, if you recognize me: GG guys, thanks for the matches!

"Stardust" is a John Coltrane song, just like "Giant Steps".

But also a part of the title "Stardust Crusaders"... how dare you burst my bubble! :D

Just kidding, thanks for the info.

Hey you know I was thinking that LK should be an input for Emergency Break for both A Train and Brass Knuckles.
Since you know LK is now a command grab so you can't ever Emergency Break from that.
It would make things a bit easier so you don't have to think about whether you need to use punches or kicks.

Edit

OH and MK should be the input to choose Big Band's Q color, cause it's the same button to pick it in 3rd Strike yaaaa'll.

To be more precise, all his Giant Step lines can reference John Coltrane songs.
Another song reference is that chaining all his aerial punches together references Boogie Stop Shuffle by Charles Mingus.

That said, I listened to all the clips on Youtube and I like that CHEEEEEN made it in. I just don't know how to get it out, and I've been spamming the bicycle horn for a while. Chances are it's probably somewhere else.

Also, Robo-Fortune confirmed part-toaster.

Yeah, I don't think it's a big deal to react to the sound, but maybe people do so that's why I asked.
I'd like to try it on the grab part just because I think it'll sound better, though.
Little late, but I was able to reaction jump to two time with my eyes closed. I could jump as late as the m in two time and avoid it, but if you're listening for it you can probably jump on two in a real match.

Also..that's exactly how it currently works, heh. Though cancel is with Back or Forward.

I was thinking: would it be ok to make :B::MP: and :F::MP: be a variant of the trumpet that disallows any notes after the hit with the trumpet itself?

so band would only be able to play tunes while hitting MP from neutral.

I've been trying big band online and sometimes I've pressed MP too much and have gotten punished after playing too many one-note songs I didn't want to play.

Mash less?

For serious though you can reaction DP if they realize and punish you. :^)

In actually got my first play of Big Band yesterday. He's quite fun. Brass Knuckles is soo satistying to land.

~98% done:PUN:

For those who missed SCR, Big Band now has ALL of his cleaned frames (minus grab).
he was looking pretty fancy on the stream last night.

im pretty sure Big Band and Squigly will end up being released almost simultaneously on Xbox, no problem though. . . .glad to hear that he is almost done

I so hoped someone will do his charged sonic super at the SCR top 8, I was hype for a colored TUBATUBATUBA.

I tried, couldnt get the space to taunt safely. Sorry

So Big Band is almost done, a few more weeks...I can't wait to finally have an assist. Solo Squigly can sometimes be very frustrating.

Ever since LP Brass Knuckle lost its super armor, I've found myself rarely if ever using it.

I noticed that it is +5 on hit, which is just 1 frame shy of being able to link into LP. Would be nice if it got that 1 extra frame of hitstun to warrant using it over MP and HP.

What are the rest of you typically using it for?

It's supposed to be a tartan, don't worry.

And to address the previous thing, I use LP rushpunch plenty still. It's far, it's fast, and it's safe.

No, you may not have standing LP rushpunch loops.

I might not be thinking out of the box here, but if it only linked into LP, how would it loop?

LP blahblah rushpunch LP blahblah rushpunch LP blahblah rest of combo
He has enough links off it in the corner without this.

I was under the impression that IPS would kick

I can't say I see it being much use anyways. All of BB's heavies do more damage than LP-Punch and none of those leave the opponent standing, so you can only set the link up off of an assist, MK-Step, non-launcher mediums, or a j.MK restand (a tight enough timing that you might as well just have done a j.MKMKwhiff restand in the first place.

In the corner, you'll do more damage and have lots more time to link just doing s.HK and braking into something. I suppose it does save on undizzy without using OTG, but I don't see it being enough to matter. Midscreen i can only really see it being useful to get a small bit of extra damage off MK-Step. The link won't even work on more than half the cast thanks to the pushback from LP-Punch (BB, Val, Fortune, Squigly, Bella, Pea), and only hits those it does if the punch lands at point-blank range (the 2nd hits of s.LP/sometimes s.MK and the first of cr.MP will whiff on followup).

You know I kinda wish Big Band always had the maximum number of followup hits for his trumpet. I mean it doesn't seem overpowered to me if that restriction was gone(low damage, always adds undizzy), and it would allow more Big Bands to consistently have lil jingles in their combos. It probably wouldn't be optimal damage wise, but I would love to get comboed by a Big Band who knows how to play music with his MP.

I just use it to end blockstrings. I do miss the armor on it a lot but having a safe reversal would be sort of too good. Maybe it would be okay if the armor didn't start on the first frame or something.

Isnt it big bands only safe special? I would think it would be good when your opponent is blocking everything as everything else would result in a combo from the opponent, right?

I meant as far as utilizing more than one color, I'd be willing to do the work myself for free if it's planned to stay as-is.

Hey @Mike_Z,

I think I have found some inaccurate coloring on Big Band. We know that under the metallic mouthpiece that connects Big B to his instruments and enables him to play them, there is some kind of black fabric/material. It wraps around the lower part of his face and possibly protects it from being excoriated by the metal. In some of his movements, you can see it, here’s an example:

But I have found 2 moves where it is (inaccurately?) colored in the same color as the mouthpiece, making it look like metal. The two I mean are Bagpipe Blues and his back walk. Here are the pictures showcasing it:

That’s all what I noticed. There's also c.LP, but I’m not sure if it’s the fabric and should be black or if it’s another part of the mouthpiece and thus correctly colored. But since it’s clearly behind the mouthpiece, it should be this black material instead if you ask me.
