Administrative PSA: Big changes are coming to Skullheart!

Do not do this.

That server isn't affiliated with Skullheart or Lab Zero and anybody just showing up to create a random room wouldn't be looked upon kindly.

Saying "Do not do this" in regards to a post that no longer exists isn't very clear as your response is now out of context.

After boring through this thread,I can say I,for one, trust the mods to do the right thing.
Also,in civil war,I recall Spidey leaving the Pro Registration, and running for the hills. Not too apt a description for Dekillsage.

mods wont play favorites.
If this were the golden standard from the beginning instead of the “Laissez faire, laissez passer, lê monde va de lui même” approach, I dare say things would have never come to this point. I still remember the first rule overhaul and distinctly recall the expression "elevate the quality of posting". Ironic how funposting was at its peak during that time. I guess I'm a little "amused" in seeing this sudden and fervent passion for law and order.
(Please note that I am not faulting you in particular nor commenting on that specific incident.)

Decided I had some time to kill, so I made this.
I just have to appreciate Captain America with 'Canada Dry' plastered on his face.

We could use skullgirlsfanboys profile as an off topic
Truly, he died for our sins.

I don't feel particularly affected by this but I will side with those declaring the change counter-productive in the long run. The arguments have been made (and so far left uncontested) so there's no need to reiterate them.
Personally, I don't see a problem with OT talk, provided it stays in OT. As long as things remain properly confined, I don't see the harm.
While it's not something that I'm invested in, I'll only add that severely crippling the allowed discussion on NPCs seems like a arbitrarily restrictive thing and remarkably dismissive of a large (largest?) portion of people who enjoy the game. I guess them FKN CASULS outlived their usefulness after the IGG donation drive...

I only have a question: who is this metaphorical sempai that Skullheart-chan is trying so hard to impress?
And when will posting be done in premade forms?

Carry on.

Speaking of problems, I'm still not getting what problems the mods are trying to solve by doing their changes. I get that they hate the general lack of quality and plugging up the recent posts thing, but by axing OT and neutering everything else non-gameplay, they've effectively made it so that people who don't or can't contribute much to the gameplay side of Skullgirls are not welcome. As for wanting to increasing exposure of gameplay topics, I'm not sure that's even necessary As others have stated, people who are actually looking for info on SG gameplay will simply look it up without using the Recent Posts and What's New? features. I don't think I ever even used the latter (though it could be just me). Plus, off-topic boards are always more active than other boards. If you're afraid that the gameplay stuff won't get exposure through Recent Posts and What's New?, then what's the point of having those two features in the first place?

I know, I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the fact that your comment no longer had any context. It's all good now.

The more I think about the removal of future speculation discussion, the sadder I become. Today on SRK, some people were talking about Rainbow Mika, I brought up the world of Joshi Pororesu (Japanese Women's Pro Wrestling) and the eyecatching costumes and insanely awesome maneuvers they perform. That got me to thinking about wrestling in general, Beowulf, and back to the decision. Now if one of the unreleased characters in the Indiegogo was another wrestler in Beowulf's league, but a female designed after the JP style, I can no longer discuss inspirational moves, unique mechanics, or anything of the sort. I love playstyle speculation, movelist creation and discussion. I may not have posted there as much, but I loved seeing all the creative ideas people bounced off of each other in the Scythana thread. The "corpse" mechanics had some cool ideas.

I just wonder how far all of this will go.

So I've been skimming through this thread since it has taken off so much, and from what I gather it seems the mods are doing some cleaning up, which is fine, but then saying there will be the removal of off-topic, which if true is...weird...

The removal of off-topic would result in a consolidation of discussion to be pretty much exclusive to SG, which sounds fine on paper, but can seemingly stifle the community and limit the new blood that might want to hang out in skullheart. To limit the discussions is to limit the conversations between individuals, who are more in depth and complex than to be an enthusiast of a specific game (in this case, Skullgirls) I feel open conversations of other topics opens up an understanding with other people because it gives you an insight as to what that person is like, what they like to do, play, interests, dislikes, etc etc. Are there inevitable trolls posting, yea sure, but those same trolls are just going to post in the other available threads that are going to be open. Trolls gonna troll, so to speak.

I understand mods maybe wanting to "cut the fat" so to speak with the overabundance of topics in off-topic, but to axe the entire thing, would just be alienating people who want to have conversations beyond this game, or games in general. If people want to discuss something beyond the scope of the gaming realm, they'll go to other places, and that means less membership here, which results in a slowly withering and dying website. I've seen it before.

Now don't get me wrong. I never really posted in off-topic general. More so games and a bit in anime, but that's about it, however, many people do, and it gives people a common interest to talk about, which in turn motivates them to stay within the community, rather than splinter off to other realms.

Anyway, that my two cents. Take with it what you will.

Damn, we can't post non SkullGirls artwork in our art threads anymore. That sucks. That really sucks. I thought it would be a good place to post both SG and non SG, but guess I was wrong. Guess I'll just link my deviantart in my thread lol

As long as we're tossing around unsolicited opinions like they're gaudy plates in a white elephant gift exchange, I'll throw in mine:
The removal of off topic will not make me talk more about gameplay. There are still 15 subforums under Gameplay General that I'm not going to bother clicking through. I'm probably just going to check skullheart less often, set it up to get alerts when a few people post, and find some more condensed place to discuss the game. If competitive players didn't have to check 20 different subforums, they would not need to rely on the Recent Threads.

IMO the mod's decision is worth a try, but I'm not sure it will solve any problems.

Does each character really need their own subforum? We have a pinned general BnB compendium thread in Gameplay General and then we have dedicated combo threads for each character in their own subforum. This makes no sense to me.

The pinned thread is basic intermediate combos for the most part that arent optimized for damage. The character specific combo threads are for general combo theory for that character and discussion of new combo routes/assist specific combos/character specific optimized midscreen and corner and counterhit combos.

The pinned bnb thread is there for people just wanting to start learning a character and dont want to sift through 10-20+ pages per character of combo theory and still scratching their head as to what combo to learn first and if it is even a good combo to learn for their skill level.

The stickied bnb thread eliminates that.

The only reason I would accept removing the ability to speculate about a character's moveset is as a preemptive action to avoid another JuJu incident where some poster actually designs a move or mechanic identical to one that L0 would actually plan to implement, however small the odds of that are.

The new rules state that we can only talk about the characters but really, how much is there to talk about? We don't know their relevance to the story or how they will factor into it. Heck, we don't even know how Beowulf's story will actually play out so how is anyone really going to be able to discuss Scythana or Adam when all we have for them is tangential information and scattered snippets of information that have already been pored over?

The BnB compendium is there for combos of questionable BnB use made largely by one member of the community.
The character sub-forums are there for specific char gameplay discussion and development, some of which should be sorted out and/or remade as some threads have been going since MDE.

Sorting out character subs that have like 30 threads in total since a year ago for the most up-to-date information should have been the first priority, not closing down OT. That would have benefited Skullgirls players more than removing a board they never even visited.

@Dime_x

I see people posting in the character subs asking for good beginner combos anyway. I'll rescind my previous question about the usefulness of character subs since I'm wrong about that, but seriously you click "Gameplay General" and have to scroll down half the page before you even see the threads.

Yes they do. That is how fighting game forums work.

Only reason I called it into question is because there's a lot of overlap. Not saying that character boards are unnecessary but it accounts for a lot of the clutter.

how? the sub boards are listed in the Gameplay General board all you have to do is click ONCE (Twice?) and you're there.

Oh I need a Bella combo gonna go to the Gameplay General board oh cool there's the other boards listed right there. Oh there's cerebella *click* oh there's the combo thread *click* oh that's a cool combo.

I did a step-by-step guide with pictures about how to get to character threads, and even posts inside them. The numbers aren't secret.
I'm beginning to feel that my shitty Photoshopsᵀᴹ of desktop printscreens are going largely unrecognized by this community, and I don't think I'm okay with that.

It probably wouldn't hurt to clean up some of these character subforums, though. For example the stickied combo thread in the Filia subforum was made by Evilben, who has never edited the first post. That thread should probably be nuked and remade by someone who will keep it up to date.

can't the mods just move someone else to the first post? Find someone to keep it up to date and put them there.

I mean if they can that'd work. I'd be surprised if the forum software let you change the OP of a thread, though.

Not to mention "btw the combos that work start on page 3.6, 2 quarters down the page :^)))" but then edited posts shift that around and it's not accurate and oh my god why can't we all just be like this

I know they can at least delete them, vad had the first post on eliza threads before she came out and then delete his post explaining that the thread was locked until the character was out. maybe he could only delete it because it was his own post, but I don't think that's the case.

You guys can just start new threads you know. Then each thread will work with whatever version of sg exists.

No one does this for some stupid reason.

Go do that now you dummies.

EXAMPLE:

Vanilla Peacock combos
SDE Peacock combos
MDE Peacock combos
Encore Peacock combos
SG2 Peacock combos

all the older threads will be buried but the current version thread will be stickied or something.

Just keep deleting OPs, sooner or later the OP is bound to be by someone who will keep it up to date.

Cleaning up the gameplay character subforums is something on our list, I agree that there are too many stickies with too little valuable information. Many of the current stickied combo threads were made immediately after Skullheart came back up last year/when the character in question was first put in beta, and have been very poorly maintained.

I was thinking that the character combo threads could be remade by a moderator who would then continue adding onto the OP as the community posts combos in the thread. This means we wouldn't need to keep any OP on a leash. Does this sound passable?

The pinned thread is more or less universal go to BNBs. It's a starting point.

The character forum combo threads are where you'll find the max meter or max damage weight/hitbox specific combos and ideas on burst baits and where to stick your resets and choices.

These gameplay suggestions repeat themselves every couple of months.

Mod OP so they can update the first post

Mods aren't more knowledgable than players nor are they obliged to not disappear like Evilben. We would still need a player or players to tell us what works or what is the worthwhile information. Cut out the bottleneck (mods), have a player or the character's playerbase maintain it.

Proof: Big Band, Fukua, Cerebella, Valentine

There are characters no one stepped up for, characters that mods do play so if a mod that played the character wanted to do it, they can.

I can suggest to remake the thread or try to get people talking about tactics or something but if they don't want to or feel it's necessary, what could be done? They can't be forced into doing it. Should the old combo threads be closed, locked and unstickied even though, at the very least, they serve as a starting point?

We are super appreciative of the effort of the members that did spend their time to make information easier to attain.

Could create a 'Character X Thread Master' account and maybe share that log in information between 2-3 people who are very proficient with that character, to come back and edit the OP and keep up with things?
Only 1 person managing an OP would be stressful and heavy burden, unless someone just wants to go for it then whatevers.

Doesn't need to be so complicated.

Example:

"@Moderators

The combo thread stickied is old and filled with bad combos. Please sticky this new thread which has updated info and current version discussion."

"@Mr. X Copy paste this post into the OP of the combo thread, these are common combos and burst baits and resets Filia uses currently."

It's not a heavy burden, you can make a thread and ask the other players of that character to share their knowledge and help so you can organize it.

The issue is thinking it's suppose to be so convoluted or flawless and nobody hitting new thread to just do it.

The compendiums that exist are awesome aren't they? I'm still bugging all the character subforum users to make one.

Not going to lie, I only made the Big band combo thread for the name, I've never had any intentions of keeping the OP up to date. If you remake it please keep the same name D:
