So I see these words in this SRK article: Unofficial Skullgirls Tour.

And I think, why not? Why not actually do that? Why not give people something really concrete, to help them easily understand the SGC's chosen focus, and where we plan to go? Just take the 5-6 events we've said are the ones we're doing, and make them SGCT events. What if, say, we could convince our TO's to include, "Official SGCT Event," on their flyers?

Prizes, money, yeah, I have no idea about any of that... but as a tool to refine our focus, I think it could be really cool.

Thoughts?
and somebody with actual graphic design skills please remake my jerry rigged concept pieces, or something else plain better

I'm personally against using Filia DP as the icon, only because its already a thing with the 240p+ boyz and I don't want to take that from them.

EDIT: why not Bella slap or Eliza taunt?

This is just a mock up. I went with something I thought would be recognizable. I was gonna use devil horns but the, "speed lines," on cerebella's hand on that sprite made the silhouette a little hard to make out.

Oh Sharpie. Never change pls

All I'm saying is: this is better.

I'm leaving sharpie's img up, but that's enough joke responses. I cleaned up the thread, and welcome all serious input. This could be a very real and helpful thing for the SGC, if we make it so.

I was thinking about this the other day. I was like, it would be cool if we had a Skullgirls Cup or something like that, but we aren't big enough to warrant something like this. Then this still popped up today. So yea its a thing now. but yea this would be awesome.

Also how would this be runned? Point base like CPT?

Points based is the only way that I know of to run a season cup. I'm looking into systems as we speak, though.

I would totally be on board with this!

As for icon ideas, maybe

>generic Marie looking right at the viewer
>Squigly singing (SBO)
>Bella doing Reflector
>Peacock doing smoking victory pose

Anyone can run a Point/Place Ranking Cup concept. Another forum I know did one for KoF and even picked which event to the finals on. Even a few online ones for the cup. It's all up to who ever does runs it to do it properly.

As for images, I've always really liked Cerebella's Devil Horns. Also, Championship Skull Belt anyone?

Speaking of trophy, should the winner of this tour win an actual skullheart?

Biggest problem with a tangible trophy is "who's paying for it".

A medal seems more cost effective.

(Actually, I was)

I think that we're going to be looking into funding any expenses as a community, and possibly some other sources, if possible. For now, we should treat this as though it's just the SGC doing it, because that's the reality of it.

My usefulness to the SGC in 2016 has seemingly dried up, but I would be a damned fool if I didn't offer my services/resources to this project. However I can help, just say the word & I'll do the rest...

This is a good idea.

I'm still on the fence about NWM. PNW loves the event and they're wonderful to the SGC, but putting one so close to Combo Breaker always feels like logistical suicide when considering the people that have to travel really far and will prioritize CB (rightfully so) as the main event.

If this is how it plays out, I would really want /everyone/ on the west coast to make a concerted effort that makes it a bigger deal than just "hey this tourney is good to the 40 people it was convenient for."

The logo can be The Skullheart being nom'd by Ms. Fortune's head. I can potentially make it to these events. :3

That's what we've been talking about, yeah. It's gonna the WC SGC event, I think.

My loose plan:

I'd considered just waiting until after CB and then adding up the points then giving out the prize, but I think it'd be better to play for it, right? And I want it to be a big thing if we do, which means it needs to be before the actual CB top 8.

Side tournament for the top 8 best players of the tour happening on the same weekend as the top 8 best players play in the most stacked tournament of the year feels like a double up.

You'd probably (hope to) see mostly the same players in both brackets.

I have no suggestions, sorry.
I just don't think keeping track of points to lead two similar top 8 brackets potentially on the same day is worth it.

If the SGPT was held on it's own as a special event it would make more sense like how Capcom does it.
But 8 players flying out to play against each other without everyone else being there doesn't make it feel like a community.

I just don't think it's necessary.
I'd rather see no SGPT and then CB could have a different exhibition, because CB's tournament is the SGPT(?).

Also, I think the current image / emblem is completely fine.
Hops disbanded 240p.

The primary purpose of this is to drive attendance, but I still want there to be something wrapping up the SGCT, even if it's just presenting the points leader with a prize after the Top 8 on Sunday.

Its interesting. Itd have to be done properly! Talk to @thehadou !!

I like where this is going, but my art suggestion is put her in the middle more, and make half of her body the opposite color of where her body is in. so the body part that is blue side shade orange, and vice versa.
That frame is such that I'm not really sure how I could move her around without obscuring her awesome devil horns. Also, recoloring is outside my ability to do without making it look like ass. But, I may try. No reason not to.

Okay. I am working on some art tonight anyways, and I show you what I mean

We already have a cup in Skullgirls. Why not just use a silhouette of the teacup sprite? (Although I'd personally prefer the barrel or Moai head, as they're more iconic of the game proper)

I'm also a little annoyed at this announcement being on the Skullgirls twitter just before CEOtaku. If anything, it'll cannibalize potential entrants because they'll just be like, "Oh, that's just the first stop on the tour" when CEOtaku is easily the second-biggest tournament we have. I get that Combo Breaker is the biggest tournament so far this year, but surely you can see the potential effects of such an announcement.

I'm willing to admit that I'm personally invested in CEOtaku and Kai's personally invested in CB, as well, and this is really not a rivalry I was interested in starting.

There is no lens under which I view the SGCT as fostering rivalries. This overture is an attempt to solidify our combined focus for the coming years, something we absolutely need it if we hope to continue with our positive tourney experiences into 2017 and beyond. I feel this will not negatively affect non-CB attendance, but just the opposite. On Facebook, I have already seen comments like, "wow, this is so cool!" and, "I'm going to try and make it to all of them!" which is exactly what I was hoping for.

The open letter was the start, and I'm trying to take it further. Come with me on this. I tried my hardest to build up SG @ CB, and we all made that amazing together, so let's make all 5 of these events amazing. Together.

CEOtaku last year had 52 entrants. That was the 4th biggest tournament for the game of 2015, behind NEC, EVO, and Combo Breaker. There are a lot of people who were making NEC every year that are now shipping out to GUTS as well, so I'm not quite sure if it'll be CEOtaku or GUTS that'll be the second biggest SG event of 2016.

That aside, I don't think this is doing anything to deter anyone from going. There are like 5 events on the calendar, and I think if someone would say to themselves "Wow, I really want to see what this Skullgirls is about, but I see that CEOtaku is first on the list so I'm not going", those are the same people that say "Wow, I really want to play Skullgirls, but the game keeps changing so I'm going to wait until it's all over to play." Haven't we realized that the people who would say that are never going to be a part of the community anyway, so there's no point wasting effort trying to appease them?

Finally, both of those things aside, these events are for us. While, yeah, focusing on events and doing things like calling it a "Skullgirls Tour" adds flair and excitement for potential spectators and newcomers, that's not the reason we started focusing attendance. We started because we were tired of being shuffled into corners, and we wanted a place to play and enjoy ourselves with each other. Everyone in the SGC has heard how great CEOtaku 2015 was, and anyone in the community who isn't making it is only not making it because they are literally incapable of doing so (or because they can't make both CEOtaku and GUTS). Aren't we already getting everything we could have hoped for as far as CEOtaku goes (and all these events, really)? I would be deeply saddened if something as simple as placement on a list made any divide between us during what is supposed to be bringing us all together.

The timing for the announcement is quite shit, though, considering CEOtaku registrations JUST opened up and there is the definite insinuation that it's just a warmup for CB. I don't think you did it intentionally at all, mind you. It just has an unwanted tone.

If anything, this timing helps CEOtaku. People outside the community that want to attend SG events won't register for other events that also opened registration this weekend, like ECT, and will go to CEO instead.

I'm really not seeing the problem here.
