Let's start this off the right way then and stay on topic. Has anyone wondered what songs Squigly might have sung? Like what of today's opera music do you think would come out of her theater?

i'd like to imagine that if squigly stayed alive, she would eventually become a vocalist in some sort of Symphonic Metal band...

Alright, any names that come to mind then? Perhaps someone that would accompany her in a duet? With all the fighting she has going on right now i imagine it would be quite refreshing to hit the stage once more. Minus the stitches of course.

Bringing this thread back from the dead?! I hope this wasn't a bad idea...
Anyways, Squigly was (is?) huge fan of Eliza, right? Maybe her taste in music (singing or listening) is similar to Eliza's.
I need to go check around if it's noted somewhere what music Eliza / Squigly enjoyed...
i don't think there's any indication what either squigly nor eliza's music actually sounds like, but I'd like to believe In a Moment's Time would be sung by Eliza, obvious skullheart reference notwithstanding.
To be honest, i found Squigly's backstory as an opera singer to be... dubious. like, i know child prodigies exist but they made it sound like she was already at the height of a goddamned career when she died
also the only time we're ever told in game that she WAS a singer was in like, 2 lines of Eliza's story, but that's a minor issue
I think the idea is that squigly is a singer in the sense that she knows how to sing properly (since she is from a family of musicians), but she never had a big career or something like that.
I mean, we have a lot of sons of singers that start singing and releasing albuns at what, their 10 ~12 years?
And, since she is related to opera, squigly would probably be a opera singer too, and Eliza, well, i can see her being related to jazz or opera, since those are common themes in SG.
Isn't Squigly's sing super called "Squigly Battle Opera"? That should actually explain. I didn't think a lot....
And yeah, Eliza seems like the opera type too. But I don't think we have solid proof, other than opera as a common SG theme.
I like to think that Squigly would be an up-n-comer opera singer, hence the Super's name, "Battle Opera". As for Eliza, I think it says in her Bio somewhere she's a lounge singer somewhere in the canopy kingdom, but I like to tell myself she's part of a secret jazz band or something.
I also have the habit of yelling "The Squig is up" when tagging Squigly in.
If eliza is part of a secret Jazz band maybe Squigly has a secret Death metal club she goes to on open mic night. I bet that's how she gets her voice to hurt so much.

I like to think her voice hurts so much because she tries to mimic Leviathan all the time
Ok so this has been bugging me? Why was Squigs family connected with the mob? Were they themselves a mob family?
Think about what we know about mafia in general. Like, works from fiction to reality.
Not everyone related to the mafia was a criminal of some sort, sometimes, someone would become related to the mafia in search of protection, or some even some help to grow its business, help in time of need, stuff like that. Maybe the contiellos weren't criminal but probably had some relationship with the Medici in other ways.

To me it looks like the Contiellos do have their own baggage of misdeeds to account for.
Squigly's bio states "Squigly is the last “surviving” member of the Contiello family, a long lineage of opera singers and among the Medicis’ most valued clients." And how does one become a client of the mob? Mafias generally have an official front business, but in New Meridian it seems everyone is aware of the nature of Medici operations, and it seems fair to assume Contiellos were clients of that side of the business.
It could be considered a practical choice, following the reasoning of "in this world, you're either with the mob or against it". However, becoming as much as "one of the most valued clients" sounds like a bit more than doing just the bare minimum to survive in a harsh reality. Perhaps it is easier to establish yourself and remain a long lineage of known opera singers when the competition tends to, say, reconsider their career choices, or mysteriously disappear.
I thought it was interesting how her story mode ended with you having use both her and Filia (who you may have started with). I also think Leviathan is awesome. I do have one question though. One of the quotes Leviathan can say during Daisy pusher confused me. I know the demon Leviathan can quote scriptures, and our levethan is rather scholarly but why did they pick the line "For I beheld Satan as he fell from Heaven like lightning!" It just kind of threw me off and I wasn't quite sure how it fit. Was he calling his opponent Satan? I know the original quote was intended to mean that God has extreme power over evil, so was Leviathan saying he was Godly in his ability to stop "evil"? I'm guessing not... I know it's not a big deal, I'm just wondering if anyone had opinions. Also why try to tie him to the demon leviathan to begin with, and not just the dragon-like sea monster? Just wondering given leviathan seams to act almost like a paladin in terms of the extent to which he seems to follow what he feels is right to do. I know demons can be deceptive and charming and seem noble, but I didn't see anything (other than those allusions) to imply leviathan may not be as noble as he makes himself appear to be. Am I missing something that was implied, or is leviathan actually just the gentlemanly dragon he seams with random literary allusions thrown in for fun?
Here's my theory:
Judging from Eliza's story mode parasites, rather than being a stigma, used to be a symbol of power or whatever. If you had a parasite you were powerful you were held up in awe; practically a living god.
Then that era ended when Eliza did something.
Satan here would be Eliza, Heaven being the status of parasite users in ancient times.
"For I beheld Satan as he fell from Heaven like lightning!"
Remember in the scriptures when Satan revolted against god other angels joined?
As Eliza's misdeed (if we're willing to go far enough we could say it was caused because she thought herself to be above and beautiful compared to everyone else, a la satan) was conducted, not only her but all other parasite users fell from grace.
edit: I didn't think any of these ideas through; there's probably a billion redundant redundancies in there.
Daisy Pusher buries the opponent, and then they fall in a casket from the sky.
The buried foe in the underworld's falling from the heavens. If you want to get technical, Lev's calling the opponent the devil; given they're getting in a fight with Squigly, said foe is probably at least acting like a big jerk.
And it sounds cool.
It would be like, if I had a downward flaming sword strike attack, I could quote Javert from Les Mis: And if they fall as Lucifer fell, the flame, the sword!
Also, I was under the impression that "like lightning" was added there by M. Bison...
Came across this picture some time ago and figured it was an interesting adaptation of what Squigly and Eliza looked like in the past. Something that eluded me was this: Her parents have blonde hair while hers is dark. Could be a hereditary thing or died? What do you guys think.
We never really see her father maybe he has dark hair. Or she dyes it.
Yeah but the man on the left has to be her father with the same mustache after all, unless the artist assumed he had blonde features so maybe they colored the mustache light. Anyone have a screencap of Squigly's story?

Apparently her family's sepia toned. It was a different time back then...
Looks like a sort of middle-of-the-road gray. Pallet #7 (gold dress, black hair) is based on pre-preservative Squig, so there's that, too.
Ok so this has been bugging me? Why was Squigs family connected with the mob? Were they themselves a mob family?
There are many stories who use the trope of every rich/important person being somewhat connected to the mafia (Filia has Medici blood, Eliza gets funded by them etc etc = Mafia World/Underworld ). And with the world of Skullgirls/New Meridian I wouldn't be surprised if they'd overuse that trope. I think the main reason why they were connected (The only connection we got was Squigly being murdered by the Medici so there is no proof they worked with the medici or were funded by them like Eliza.) was because her mother obtained the Skullheart from Double. The Medici wanted it and they just murdered everyone there :O
- What irks me the most, aside from my first comment, is Squigly's overall look. In that it's truly unrealistic. I am seriously not convinced Squigly would have remained as intact as she had in the game, after fourteen years of rotting in a grave. Her attire made no sense either. While her skirt survived for the most part, I imagine some of her other clothes had probably dilapidated to the point where she'd need to find clothes. So she would need to break into some clothing store to get some new clothes.
Not much variety, eh?
- Here's an idea why Squigly wasn't subjugated by the Skullgirl. I imagined Leviathan would be classified as a "Lichwurm Theon"... a Wurm Theon that can go into an emergency catatonic state to preserve their hosts' brains, so they won't truly die. Unfortunately, the brain will have to lose connections to the rest of the body, although a few major organs may continue functioning, such as the heart and lungs, and the parasite can keep the brain running, circulating, and surviving. The body will still rot, since a Lichwurm can only preserve so much, but the brain will remain completely intact, and will be totally dependent on the parasite. That is, unless the body was restored... somehow... (I know of one way that can probably happen...)
When Marie came around, they got a sudden surge of Theonite, which caused them to wake up.
So, basically, Squigly would not have been dead to begin with, but would have undergone severe necrosis. I like this theory because we can then evade that touchy subject of necrophilia. Somewhat.
I'm pretty sure Squiglys dead. You don't exactly shove off a grenade launcher to the side of the head easily. Skullgirl has Necromancy magic so it's not really something that can be explained.
Also Leviathan is keeping Squigly from decomposed. Not fully but she's slowed down.
Also the fact the clothes dont rot...well I guess Medici make durable clothes.
I mean. Cerebella's clothes are taped on according to the lore so the Medici must make really durable clothing for the amount of acrobatic tricks she's doing.
