I really liked the mole.
It's probably the only thing I liked about that game, I dunno man, I just like skin irregularities, they make the open swaths of skin a lot more interesting to look at. And it gives Samus, who has a really default-ish character design of pointed featured blond with framing hair and ponytail, something kinda distinctive about her face.

I dislike the mole because of what it represents
it makes samus feel like Sakamoto's doll that he can just kinda exercise his assorted fetishes on
and i am aware of how extreme that sounds
but really who needs a mole when you could just give samus, like, a badass facial scar
or an eyepatch
or burn wounds (or did Katawa Shoujo make those moe, I forget)
or a face tattoo
just give samus a yakuza tattoo of a dragon on her face

Wouldn't it be, like, some kinda tribal tattoo? As opposed to being representative of organized crime?
That feels wrong for a number of reasons.

Show the inside of Samus's bedroom. All you see is a giant birdnest. That's it. No mother themes, only bird themes with Samus from now on.

Truth be told I think Metroid works best with limited supporting humans characters. So if Anthony Higgs did happen to come back I'd prefer him to be like a radio guy or something. Samus DID piss of the galactic federation or whatever in Fusion, maybe he could be an inside man for her to help her out in rough times or something?

Yeah Anthony coming back would be awesome, i liked his character a lot and is, to me, one of the few good things Other M had.

I just want the power suit shoulders and arms fixed, come on, more than 2 decades of metroid games and they still put shoulders on the armor that doesn't fit at all. And some dude on the internet made some 3d model of accurate power suit, that works just fine, and looks cool!

Man, Other M......

I actually recently watched darksydephil play Other M. Hilarious, but many painful memories. Why did they have to take such a calm badass and turn her into a generic fragile woman who talks too much about her baby?
 
It also must be mentioned that said baby was a non-sentient space monster that would have sucked a school-bus full of orphans dry without a second thought.

You'd think an experienced, wise, space adventurer would have the common sense to remember something like that.

Than again, some people in real life get way too attached to killer animals. But I'd expect better from a hero.

The baby thing was present long before Other M, Other M just took it to ridiculous lengths.

Tho of course, this is immediately after said baby just saved her life distracting a gigantic brain godzilla monster and then sacrificed itself, so distraught emotions are to be expected.
And they were handled amazingly well, in Metroid Fusion.

In Other M, the mother imagery was so head-hammering, dead-horse-beating, that even the game's initials spell MOM, and after a long-winded speech about "the baby" Samus receives a baby's cry from the bottle ship.

Oh Sakamoto, you're so subtle.
 
can you imagine if the infant metroid was able to survive to queendom with some kind of etching on its DNA that gave the entire metroid species that it spawned thereafter an affinity towards Samus
then samus just has an entire species of freaky vampiric jellyfish aliens on her side

I don't remember where it was present prior to Other M? Obviously the Metroid mistaking Samus for it's Mother was present from Metroid 2, but Fusion didn't really even touch upon it. Her reaction in the intro to being saved by the Metroid vaccine was an almost snarky "looks like this is the second time the infant metroid saved my life." sounded like the reaction a normal human being would have, rather than a bunch of nonsensical melodrama over a floating amoeba that kills people.

The problem for me is that Samus' personality became dependent upon obsessing over the hatchling. It's weird how the gameplay remembers that Samus is nothing but a super effective killing machine that probably would have some thick skin, but the plot just forgot about that completely. I liked her monologues in Fusion because they were rational with a hint of emotion in them, and perhaps we can all agree that emotion and rationality are two things Samus was lacking at odd times in Other M.

gee it's almost like Other M is an infinitely inferior version of Fusion's plot with some good old fashioned japanese sexism thrown in there for good measure

That pissed me off the most about the game, honestly. Did they honestly think no one played Fusion? The metroid clones, the research ship that emulates biospheres...come on.

The return of Adam Malcovich, the linear gameplay and story progression, Nightmare, a goofy-looking cloned Ridley, the plot twist that the Galactic Federation was behind everything, the queen/omega Metroid, the horror movie atmosphere.

It's a personal headcanon of mine that Other M is actually an in-universe Hollywood-ized film interpretation of the events of Fusion.
Can't you just imagine a focus tester saying that Samus needed to be sexier, and that more attention should be given to Adam and the baby metroid cause it's so cute and sad.

I don't think there's much more to be said about Other M's story or gameplay that hasn't already been discussed countless times in various internet discussions or even freaking essays. I like to think of the Retsupurae's watch of the movie-mode as the final word on the subject. Although, I do really like TheMightyBox's theory now, heheh.

I mentioned this on Steam a while back, but of the three reviled franchise ruining sequels/reboots, Other M, Lord of Shadows, and DMC: Devil May Cry, I actually find Lord of Shadows more irritating and offensive than Other M and DMC.

Other M strikes me as an honest attempt at a good game that fell victim to being rushed like crazy. The gameplay has seeds of goodness, smooth controls and whatnot, but its dragged down by a lack of polish or refinement. The story reads like a first draft of a story after the first brainstorming session, with no one having proof read it to encounter the glaring character inconsistencies, plot holes, offensive bullshit, and general narm. If the story had spent more time in development, and had undergone some generous editing and rewriting, I don't think it would have been the travesty it ended up being.

Lord of Shadows on the other hand feels like the developers didn't even try. They had all the time and money in the world, and so they used it to just copy-paste CV names on to a generic God of War clone in a Lord of The Rings fantasy setting with vampires, then made a super edgy sequel where you play as Dracula and kill families and cut yourself because so edgy. It doesn't have that rushed or "well this could have been good if they'd spent more time editing and cutting the bullshit" feel that Other M does, it just feels like they didn't give a fuck about staying true to CV's charm.

DMC is a mediocre but inoffensive hack and slash that feels utterly underwhelming in the wake of Platinum's titles and even the previous DMC's. Story is juvenile trash too, but unlike Lord of Shadows, it at least stays true to the gameplay of previous titles (even if it doesn't do a great job). And unlike Other M, it's a reboot, so you don't have to worry about ruining a likable character. I consider it the best of the three, actually.

i mean obviously Samus looks all sexy and stuff is because Other M was an in-universe attempt to get mainstream audiences back in to the film series, so they cast Space Future Megan Fox because Space Future Kim Basinger doesn't do it for the 18-35 male demographic
 
Now I'm very even more glad I have no plans to ever play DmC or LoS...in all honesty, I would be very ok if all 3 of these franchises just died forever.I am more than ok replaying the oldies.

Well, Konami is pretty much dead, and most of the talented people at Capcom has left them, so I agree with CV and DMC. Nintendo is still a pretty decent company though. I wouldn't be surprised if they could redeem themselves after Other M if they put the right people in charge.
