The Palettes of Skullgirls

When I design reference palettes, I don't aim for a 1:1 conversion. I want to get something that both looks good, but still manages to invoke the spirit of the original design.

This is usually over my protests that it should be 1:1, and his choice ends up looking better. :^)

Did anyone ever figure out if that Cerebella palette was officially a reference to anything?

Edit: WHOOPS, completely forgot to mention WHICH palette. Number 20.
I think it might be the Blob from the x-men comics

Ehh? Really? I don't see it. Where is the funky shading coming from then?

About Cerebella palette #20:
It's not from an anime, or a show, or a movie.
[Mike's words in the comment section]

So does that mean it's from a game? Comic books are possible too, I guess.

Also not from a game or a comic.
So is it from some sort of music or picture? The plot keeps thinkening

Is it this album cover?

On a side note, one thing I love about SG is that many players seems to really try to get their teams color coordinated.

Violent Ken Fukua and Famicom Big Band match so well I have to use that as my team now.

Not a comic, game, show, cartoon, movie, anime... well, that's my whole area of expertise. Is It... Is It a Mascot for like cereal or something?

Based off a piece of art?

Id it based off of a music track?

Is there a time period or year we should be looking at. It's a really nice color but I can't for the life of me associate it with anything.

Wasn't it one of the dev's OC's or something?

Nearly anything can be considered art...

Also, could someone post an image of the palette? Art as in a piece that would belong in a museum (ex, pottery, sculpture, oil painting, stuff like that)?

I went and did lnl over and over until I got the cat. Is the cat a part of the reference?

Because the palette isn't completely visible in the above.

Not music, not a flag, for art it depends on what you consider art.
Oh, wait, is it some kind of porn?

it kinda reminds my of LSD. . . but it is a huuuuuuuge stretch

Oh, wait, is it some kind of porn?
how could you come to that conclusion, i don't want to know what you are into :^(

It's not from like,
pop art or anything, is it?
Cause that's the vibe the shading's giving me.

I color coordinate cuz once Justin Wong said that was the key to victory! Kappa.

Not pop art, not porn, and the cat doesn't really matter although the soccer cat would have made slightly more sense for the colors it has.

Wait, the soccer cat would have made sense on this palette? So, it's soccer related? Or sports related?

I still think it's an OC.

Is it based on a website's design?

No... but I remember seeing one that had the same colors as that Cerebella palette.

Not an OC, not an existential concept, and no the soccer cat colors would have made sense but not the pattern.
