The Smash Bros Discussion Thread

But Pichu is (allegedly) the worst character in the game objectively, so can I get a free pass? :PUN:

He probably is yeah.
I dunno, maybe there's some merit to maining the joke character, but
I'm just tired of the superiority complex from casual players who don't use high tiered characters.

And for our 5th rumor of this, what, hour? (:PUN:), here's a new one for that event coming up.

Hello I am a Bandai Namco worker, you can call me Mr.E. I’ve worked loosely on Super Smash Bro. 4. I can’t really tell you what I do on the
project, but it IS a place where I can get information about the game.
-Almost all characters from Brawl are back with the exception of Snake, Lucas, and Wolf.
-Shulk will be revealed at an event coming up soon.(I’m not sure which one it is, there’s been talk of them revealing him at an event coming out soon, they’re most likely deciding which event to reveal him at, but if there are any events coming up with Nintendo showing up, Keep an eye out for him)
-Ness, Captain Falcon, Luigi, R.O.B., Game and Watch, and Falco are all unlockables.
-I haven’t played Xenoblade, but there is a stage based off some kind of prison or something.
-Super Smash Bros. Wii U releases in Mid-December
-There are only around 4 new playable characters you haven’t seen.
-Chrom and Robin were debated a lot because of moveset problems with Chrom, and similarities between Ike and Marth.
Chrom seems to have been chosen over Robin due to Favor and popularity.
-There’s a new Pokemon stage based off of N’s Castle
-Lucina is an Assist Trophy
-Any Character that have been in an 8, 16, or 32 Bit game has an Assist Trophy based on their retro versions.(For example
8 Bit Mario.)
-There’s a feature in the Wii U version that allows you to upload your own “Event matches” and download other people’s
Event matches. This was also planned for the 3DS version, but was scraped due to time constraints
-Amiibo can learn from playing against Humans, you can also upload it’s “Knowledge” to the internet Via
miiverse to download to your own Amiibo so you can play against other people’s Amiibo’s that have learned from other people.
-Despite Having all the same characters the Wii U version and the 3DS version are DRASTICALLY different in terms of gameplay
(The Demo’s played at E3 and Best Buy are Early Beta builds, this is why
there wasn’t much difference)The Wii U version is more competitive based without turning off casuals and the the 3DS version is more Casual based.
I’m also not really sure where else to post my information at, this just seemed like the best place.

This is all i’m gonna reveal for now. You don’t have to believe me, I don’t really care.

This one has so much "trying too hard" in it it's not even funny (any characters with one gets his/her sprite as an AT? Really?), but keep your eyes peeled, I guess?

I play Sonic.

Don't talk to me about tiers.

And how often do you win (when Smash Balls aren't on?)

people turn smash balls off?

Yeah.
Because often times whoever gets the Smash Ball is based entirely on luck.
And that gets annoying sometimes if you're trying to just have, you know, a serious match.

Why would you want a serious match in a party game?

oh shit here we go

get that thing away from me

--snip snip--

Yup. And on top of this, player skill plays a pretty large role as well. Smash doesn't necessarily require more skill than something like MtG, but it definitely requires different skills sets which can heavily effect character matchups. Of course all I'm really saying is that even a bad character can win in a poor situation, they're just at a disadvantage. Unless you want to get into infinites and 0 to death crap. I don't feel like arguing though, so let's just pretend those don't exist or whatever :P

Btw the most played character on my Wii is Ganondorf. Bottom tier or not, Ganondorf is a fuckin' BEAST.

Well, to me it's not a question of "to tier or not to tier", it's just that Pichu is seen as worse than any other character, though I think people don't give him enough credit. Yes, the damage tax on any Electric-powered moves piles up after a while and really shouldn't have been a thing in the first place, but it's not as bad as people believe.

Not only that, but a lot of his moves are a lot better than Pikachu's for how little they hurt him, his Thunder being multi hit is surprisingly good, and his Skull Bash is pretty fucking awesome, especially if you can get the full charge.

Funny thing is, Kirby is on a lower tier than Pichu. How a regular character manages to be worse than the character that's purposely a joke is beyond me.

Tier talk? Oh lord here we go.
Tier lists are useful if you want to better understand matchups or comparisons between your chosen character and other people in the roster, but they are limited to rather specific and controlled circumstances (i.e. tournament standards of stages/item usage if applicable/handicap settings/etc). I mained Olimar back when he was considered low-tier (Around the launch of Brawl) but after people got a feel for him he shot up because he's really good. So there is an argument to be made about how metagame affects matchups as well. A better player with a low-tier character can usually beta a weaker player using a high-tier character. How many of you have been able to beat metaknights because you catch them spamming or pressing buttons?

This.

Many people seem to believe that, to competitive players, tiers represent which character will win, no matter what other factors exist. In reality, tiers represent the idealized scenario that both characters in a match are being controlled by users of completely equal skill, leaving only the characters themselves as the factor that determines wins.

"This character is low tier" and "I always win with this character" are not mutually exclusive.

I WAS ALSO DISAPPOINTED AT THIS REVELATION
Female villan/ganandorf incarnation sounded so damn cool

KoF mode Smash? can we make this a thing?

satan's beard that pit thing needs to be purged in the deepest circle of hell

Actually, considering I 100% know I am not going to play or follow competitive play and will just be playing with friends and my sister, I don't even know why I care about competitive play

I warned you goodbye.
I now have this saved to a notepad document, I will re-post it every time you're being a dick to competitive players for no good reason.

Fuck those competitive players. Srsly man.

I'm totally a competitive player, don't take this srsly.

My prices are pretty competitive
in that I'll play smash bros if you give me money
but I'll do it for a reasonable, but economically stimulating price

I won't.
I'll charge such high prices that rich people will pay me ridiculous sums of money to play Smash Bros. just to prove that they can blow such ridiculous sums of money on mundane things like that.
Now THAT'S economics.

this is what happens on weekends with smash threads, son

This is what happens when push a game back from summer to late fall.

late fall is like early december, man

october is just
