Ok to start off with Same Old World completely destroyed one of my theories I was brewing for a while now. So in the comics there are 2 trapped gems that attack Steven, both where 'activated' when they attacked. And the only other trapped gem that has attacked is the Desert Glass gem trapped in a pillow who attacked again after landing on the beach after being used by Amethyst and Steven. This lead to me to believe that trapped gems might only be conscious in use, but Lapis blew that theory out of the water. Also I can't be happier seeing happy Lapis if only for a moment
Barn Mates was essentially everything I wanted and more. First off my theory of Lapii are messengers is all but confirmed by Lapis and Peridot the last in these 2 episodes. If Lapii all have that mirror ability and are 'akin to flying and water' and that Lapis was only suppose to be on earth for a short time, probably to see how the war was going and report back, in my book it's all but confirmed. Also while I love seeing Lapis happy brooding Lapis is kinda fun to watch, just because she tries for Steven, but just can't for anyone else. Also Peridot need to be loved by everyone just because she can't stand knowing some couldn't give to shits about her is gonna be interesting to see if they delve deeper into this and have her cope with not being liked by someone.
Hit the Diamond, not what I was expecting but opened a whole new world of possibilities. First off, Earl, Bob, and Sophie had me rolling. Hell Bob in general had me this whole episode, the fact that they brought the joke around full circle already is hilarious and I wounder how much fuel this running gag has left (because I kind never want it to end). Not only that but it was nice to see Bob actually get into the game after awhile, I mean sure even at the end she didn't seem to care that much, but she did actualy put more and more effort into the game as it went on (like how
she actually dove for a ball and when she was
on second 'chatting up' goofy ruby as opposed to having Amethyst/Pearl do those things). Not only that but her giving Saph and Ruby a thumbs up after screwing up because they were to busy flirting was hilarious. Though were probably only gonna she brooding Lapis for only a while as she'll eventually adjust and cheer up (probably midway through or toward the end of Summer of Steven) and we'll only see gumpy Lapis again when drama occurs (so probably often). Also Peridot can't run normally, she has to frog hop, which I wonder if that will change once she gets her Crystal Gem form.
But the most important thing about this ep. is that the Rubies were hunting Jasper. One, Rubies confirmed red shirts. They are the away team, more dangerous, you know that someone might 'die' send more numbers. Which to me made me think, why did they send two gems to Earth on a warship to just check the cluster? You know a warship with finger lasers, gem-destabilizing weaponry, and who knows how many gem-destabilizing holding cells. I think the cluster was just a secondary mission, something for the Peridot to do. But I think the main mission from the start maybe of been Rose. Get Rose, bring her back, and have her dealt with, set an example of traitors. Why now and not before, well the cluster, kill two birds with one stone. Peridot would deal with cheeking the cluster while Jasper with the new gem-destabilizing tech and a warship take Rose by surprise and get out with plenty of time before the cluster emerges.
Also the 5 Rubies are probably a testament to the quality of how the gems are being manufactured from Homeworld colonies of late. Like in comparison to Garnet's Ruby, The Answer Rubies, and the 5 Rubies there isn't much difference. Yes Garnet's Ruby is deferentially more competent than the others, but that could just be because she is of a finer cut or facet. Like how Peridot is constantly referring to herself as a facet 5, it could mean she not only id's herself by it, but also take pride in it. I mean she was chosen to pilot a warship with a veteran Jasper to check on a massive new bioweapon. (unless if is an Invader Zim moment and they sent her with Jasper just because she was annoying and wanted to send her somewhere far and Jasper needed pilot.)
And then there is Steven Floats. Not much to say about this one. Good to see Steven finally realize his powers are tided to his emotions and learn a new power at the end/beginning of a 'season' outside of Say Uncle. And good to see the gems again in a normal environment doing gem things. Also Pearl reactions are just as priceless as Say Uncle so that's a pulse.
Kinda of solid way to end the 'In too deep' special really.
