Shin Megami Tensei and Persona

Let me talk to you guys about Persona 2

Let's get one thing straight: Persona 2 has a deeply, deeply flawed battle system. Whenever that ever gets addressed on conversations like this people tend to agree but chalk it up to the game being dated. Bullcrap. Chrono Trigger came out around the same time and with a similar battle system and handled it a hundred times better. I can go back to playing Chrono Trigger with ease. I have to force myself to play a game that has a ridiculous random encounter rate along with a battle system that requires me to go through twenty different menus to get the game to actually perform an action. Oh, and while a bunch of MegaTen games have negotiations, they're usually only required for like the first couple of segments before you can just start fusing things. Persona 2 forces you to suffer through RNG filled conversations all the time if you want any new Personas. There's a ton of annoying stuff that I wish could be rectified in a ground-up remake to make the game less of a slog.

The plot itself kinda gets in rocket gear a bit too early and is actually probably one of the wackiest ones in the series, really. The only thing that's keeping me going is the cast because the entire party is fun to be around. Maya is secretly the best protagonist.

"secretly best"
it's no secret, mang
the only people that don't think that are people that think Tatsuya is better (aka people who are pretty decent) or people that worship doors and tired old men

I got no problem with the battle system aside from it being a bit slow.
My problem with P1's battle system is the most unnecessarily complicated shit I have seen.
The fact my characters won't move from their specific spot is just the dumbest shit.
Like, final fantasy 1 had the common sense to let every character attack any character on the screen and the damage would scale.
If I want nothing but super effective hits I gotta move every character around just to use every ability to it's fullest.

P4DAN has some FAN SERVICE now. Spoiler for size.

Anyways, I tried P1 for about 5 minutes and and didn't like it solely because I hate first person dungeon crawler games that DON'T have maps in the game to know where you are going. I'm not going to grab a notebook and hand map it. I guess I could look up maps online but I feel like you shouldn't need to do that to pass your game.

I've never played P2 but I have both of the games in my backlog and I look forward to playing them (unless they too are first person dungeon crawlers without maps).

Out of the three that I have played, I still love Persona 3 the best due to how the characters actually grow in the story line and the dark overtones throughout the game along with nice subtle symbolism (I'm looking at you Persona 4). I dislike P4 the most out of all of them and there is this huge rant I could go into as to why. But that just seems like a bad idea.

P2 is third-person, and they have maps. Dungeon crawling certainly isn't P2's main issues (Though the air raid shelter in IS sucks).

And now for her trailer in English

I think my favorite part is at 0:18

What the fuck Nanako

As for P5, the official JP product page for both the PS3 version and the PS4 version have updated with next to no new information outside of high resolution images from the trailer. I think this image is the only new one (I can't remember if the trailer showed THURSDAY! THURSDAY CONFIRMED!):

The only "new" thing is Arsene is confirmed to be the "first and main persona" of the P5 protag which probably means he'll be the wild card of the game who can summon multiple personas.

I hope that's not the case and this just means that Arsene is similar to the primary persona people got in Persona 2.

naw, you see, you gotta make them all different kinds of special editions.
don't limit them.
just SAY they're special.
works everytime.
