After an age of not watching anything at all, I picked up Net-juu after seeing a gif someone posted on twitter after the first episode aired. It's got a lot of nice little touches but I don't really get why people are raving about it so much when it feels like there's no real meat to the core of it.

LOGH reboot looks like it's going to be a disappointment and Hanzawa Naoki S2 is stuck in Two Weeks (TM) territory so I guess I'll start going through my backlog of unwatched stuff.

I think the reason why a lot of people (including me) are liking Netjuu is because, first and foremost, Moriko is kind of a relatable character for anyone, not just NEETs; secondly, the show goes deep into the concepts of real life personality being sometimes different from one's online persona and
Moriko feeling like her job robbed her of her happiness in life, which in turn causes Moriko to fall into a spiral of escapism through the MMO. At some points, to me at least, it almost felt like the MMO had a Neverending Story mechanic, where Moriko is watching Hayashi's (her avatar) life and indirectly influencing his story, at least that's what I thought when reconnecting with that other concept.

If you think about it, turning to MMOs/a NEET lifestyle during or after a period of overworking your ass for minimum wage, has become an issue in modern-day Japan, which make the whole show a lot relevant these days.

and there's Blend S, for your feel good moe time needs.

Sure, I get that. But the storytelling doesn't really push for anything, the plot (at least so far) has been beyond predictable, and the characters have barely more than one dimension unless you read into them at a depth that is well out of pace with the level of story progression.

Not hating on anyone who likes the show and I'm not about to drop it, it just seems like it's going to be kinda forgettable in the grand scheme of things.

I think a lot of comedy anime have this sort of problem where they'll push for a big dramatic finale, to show that the characters here have some kind of substance beyond gags, but that still retains the status quo, because if the characters actually develop out of their quirks then you have no show after that point.

You’d have a point Ruin except that Net Juu isn’t really a comedy. While it falls into Romantic Comedy territory, it’s more romance than comedy.

I actually like it though because it’s just a nice pleasant series about a Christmas cake, which we never really get to see in anime. That and it has a lot of the MMOisms that people who play MMOs. Like, crafting a ton of one item just so you can sell it off. Like, I know it’s not gonna be one of those spectacular shows, but people seem to like it because of the simplicity of it. It’s not trying to be anything special. Also, it’s not everyday we get a cute lady protagonist who is unkempt.

Just when I thought Ousama game couldn't get dumber it finds a way.
So the mysterious and previously assume supernatural entity that has been causing people to hang themselves, explode into blood fountains, and otherwise die in gruesome ways is actually a computer program that kills through the power of suggestion. How? Fuck you I don't know. It also made a girl spontaneously combust.

Further digging into this franchise reveals the true origin of the computer virus though. It's actually a curse made through the process of Kodoku (put a bunch of poisonous creatures in a jar, last one standing is the deadliest) which was performed and then the jar was left to sit for untold centuries while the poison inside became worse. It is released by someone and it infects not only them but their entire village forcing them to play this King's game as well.

So it's a cursed virus that became a cursed computer virus that has the power to kill you through suggestion. This is just as retarded as the true reason people die from watching the VHS tape in the Ring.

So Nobuhiro Watsuki, creator of Rurouni Kenshin, got busted on possession of child pornography.

Which is, uh, pretty bad

Apparently only horrible enough for a maximum one-year prison sentence, according to Japanese law.

At least it wasn’t a Jared Fogul amount.
That’s still pretty bad though.

For those who like Pretty Cure, you should be surprised that another series is coming. This is like Super Sentai or something for Magical Girls!

Fingers crossed, the remaining staff that have been backing up the data will make a replacement site that's just as good batoto.
I hope.
There's no other decent site that can feed my manga obsession.

how far did the anime go? Is there enough material for a season 2?
The anime got around chapter 28 and adapted a couple of chapters after that, like the beer ending bit. That would mean that there are around 13 chapters left or so, maybe more if the author wasn't lying when she tweeted "It will not end" right after the news was posted. I really hope this isn't the end, but we'll have to wait until friday to find out.

Anyone looking to salvage their follows list from Batoto. I just found out that you can export a list in one of 4 formats by going to the "My Follows" page, and then look on the right side as you scroll down. It will be under the RSS and Old Comics categories.

So I just watched Kakegurui. And yeah, this show basically sums up why yanderes are great. Because every girl is yandere and yet none of them are going out and killing a bunch of people.

Also, it’s a shounen gamble battle with really great character expressions.

I've been going through my backlog lately. I believe Mitsudomoe is a bit underrated despite misunderstanding-comedy being used a bit too much in some parts.

I've been watching Darling and it's very rare for me to rewatch episodes of a show that's airing. It's not the best mech show I've seen, but there is something interesting embedded in the show that really just needs a few solidly directed episodes to bring forth. Episode 5 was a very solid entry but episode 6 left me feeling like the setup from the previous didn't get a great execution.

Still, it's been a good season for shows; Hakumei to Mikochi is a very comfortable and relaxing watch, Killing Bites is exactly what I wanted from the manga, and there are a couple other shows I plan to pick up after a bit.

No joke, if enough excitement can get generated by Killing Bites to secure a re-release of an older title. I would consider it a net gain for everyone.

Speaking of buzz, I've actually seen Watamote seemingly coming back on Japanese social media/fanart given the latest chapters released.
tfw Yuri and Yoshida will probably never be seen in anime form ;_;7
