Anime/Manga General Discussion

^TEXTBOOK NERD EXAMPLE^
Notice how it tries to justify it's own nerdiness by imposing it on others.
A puzzling creature when viewed in it's natural habitat, internet anime forums.

I got a sudden craving for something scary.
I'll be back once I find a good horror anime.

if you want a good horror anime, there's School Days. :PUN: I know people get horrified every time they finish it.

also, it's not the 80s anymore. being a nerd is fucking nothing nowadays.

or boku no pico. people seem to be horrified after watching that too.

Let's watch it together, Sano. C'mon. I'll buy the blu-ray dvd, flight to Amurrica, and we'll watch it. I'll laugh, and you'll cry. It'll be beautiful.

Incredible, one of the cool people has broken rank and is now socializing with the nerd I've been studying...
Normally these two species do not interact, we are truly lucky to be able to witness such a rare occurrence...

Is Corpse Party actually scary or is it just more cheap gore and torture porn?

I've heard the anime doesn't capture the same feelings the game can dish out.

it seems to focus more on the bad endings and blows through all the scary parts that the game paces out.

Japanese Transformers is awesome. I'm watching Victory at the moment and it's really entertaining. I need to watch Headmasters and Super-God Masterforce too.

isn't the anime transformers the one where the Dino-Bots turn into a giant robot caveman? or was the person who told me that wrong?

For what I know there's a lot of ecchi in it. So yeah it's a bit cheap.

Yeah that’s in Victory, these are the Decepticon Dinoforce :)

They utilize a Pretender-Shell meaning they have a separate, biological Dino-Mode with a robot inside. The robots wield cubs and axes, that’s most likely why the person who told you described them as robot cavemen.

They're a funny little gang, especially the clumsy Triceratops:

He actually deserts at the end of the show and becomes an Autobot :>

DOCTOR ZEN AT WORK
I think if I had stuck with becoming a Veterinarian I would have been Dr. Cox from Scrubs.
THANKS, THIS IS TOO CUTE
In my futile search for animated horror I've stumbled across something called Witch Hunter Robin.
It looks good, it feels like Hellsing. Good old fashioned occult monster hunting.

witch hunter robin. Often times I have found the word "boring" is synonymous with that series.

Speaking of, Crispin Freeman would be the perfect voice for Gintoki. And Stronheim. What has he been in recently?

he's gonna be in Bayonetta 2
and uh
other stuff probably

i think he's doing more teaching now, actually
but you'll still see him around in stuff

ah, just wondering. Haven't heard him in any anime that has been dubbed recently. I do remember he's in bayo 2. The last thing I can remember hearing him in was the disappearance of Haruhi movie.

Do you look for horros, or something like hellsing?
- try "Blood" series (Blood: The Last Vampire, Blood+, Blood-C). Also would by interesting "Gantz", "Berserk", "Claymore", but I'm sure you seen it already;
- did you watch "Higurashi"/"Umineko" series?
- something trash-like like "genocyber", "kemonozume";
- "spooky stories" like "ghost hunt", "gakkou no kaidan", "Yamishibai";
- Something about heroine in the middle like "Jigoku Shoujo", "Cossette no Shouzou", "Dance in the Vampire Bund", or even "Mirai Nikki";
- classic horrors like "Kousetsu Hyaku", "Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror", "Mononoke";
- thrillers like "perfect blue", "monster", "paranoia agent", maybe even "Kaiji";
- old psychological slow-pacing like "serial experiments lain", "texhnolyze", "boogiepop". "Parasite dolls", why not;
- maybe even hentai like "Mystery of Necronomicon";
- or weird, like "Alien Nine".

Geeks you say, huh.

I can vouch for Monster. Naoki Urosawa is probably one of the best suspense thriller writers for Monster alone. And holy shit, Johan Liebert. Best anime villian ever.

I can vouch for Lain if you can handle hating the show until you've watched it till the end (really, I only started to like it after the last scene and I started trying to interpret it.) Some moments in the show are pretty creepy and lain herself is pretty odd.

I'm looking for something spooky, duh.

Blood Series doesn't look scary or interesting so I'm gonna pass on that. Also don't assume I've seen every popular anime because I'm on an anime forum. I haven't watched Berserk and I don't plan on watching it.
Claymore though, Claymore looks cool. I'll watch it as long as it doesn't go the route of Berserk.
did you watch "Higurashi"/"Umineko" series?
No, but they both look like shit, especially Higurashi. I've said it before, blood and gore isn't scary.
something trash-like like "genocyber", "kemonozume"
I have no idea what trash-like means but Genocyber looks ugly and not at all like what I'm looking for.
Kemonozume is that weird looking thing where people turn into monsters right? Not interested.
"spooky stories" like "ghost hunt", "gakkou no kaidan", "Yamishibai"
Ghost Hunt and Gakkou no Kaidan are about ghosts but they aren't scary in the slightest.
Yami Shibai looks good though, now that looks like the kind of thing that will keep people up at night.
Something about heroine in the middle like "Jigoku Shoujo", "Cossette no Shouzou", "Dance in the Vampire Bund", or even "Mirai Nikki"
I keep looking up clips of these shows you're giving me most of them don't get good reviews.
classic horrors like "Kousetsu Hyaku", "Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror", "Mononoke"
These look interesting but the Japanese have such a weird definition of what's scary.
...
The rest just seemed like suspense mysteries. I don't remember saying that I was looking for those.
In fact I don't remember saying that I wanted recommendations, but thanks for taking the time to make a list.

You just said you looking for horror animes, and people started to offer some. Looks like I fell into it too.
Blood just from the same line of "devil fighting a devil" plot as Hunter Robin and Hellsing, which not scary as well. Also stupidly gory only Blood-C (that why it's have that bad rating), others looks more adequate.
About "higurashi", yeah. It took a lot of time to get enough guts for watching this. That dem drawing looks really disgusting.

hey you, Zen! fuck your feelings, watch/read Shiki. it has a bit of a creepy horror element to it (I say a bit because the last few episodes escalate super hard and shit gets real) This is just a general recommendation, so you can't complain!

Ghost Stories is probably one of the few series where I don't mind Greg Ayers as one of the main cast. Now if only I knew how to read.

i think that the most magical thing about the Ghost Stories dub is that they match the flaps perfectly
whereas the japanese version just had mouths moving whether someone was speaking or not

Ghost Stories is pretty much a right of passage.

we need more dubs like Ghost Stories. RIP in peace ADV...

we need more gag dubs period imo

there's some stuff that's just bad and needs a good pissing on or just can't translate to the west well at all
that's when we need gag dubs

something that really bummed me out about High School of the Dead's dub is that I could FEEL that they wanted to gag dub it (and the script even snuck some good lines in there) but they didn't and it just
was really stupid

wanna know why Shin-Chan did so well in the US? Because it was mostly a gag dub. I love this shit. I don't care about extra features being full of character bios and making ofs! Gimme a gag dub, gag reel, or something that's funny!

someone know when they will start airing "Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works"?

MAL says Sep.28 in Japan.

OOOOH!~ the Garo anime main characters were announced a month ago but I just found out today!

Take a look!
