Gaming General Discusison

Next Nintendo direct just won't be the same. :(
It won't be directly to us.

Wow... this happened.
Geez, I certainly didn't see it coming.
I'm not the biggest fan of Nintendo, but I can't deny that Iwata was a great man.
And it pains me to be reminded that even great men are still vulnerable.

I'm sorry for double posting but
AAAAAAAAADon'tWatchUnlessYouPlayedOdinSphereBecauseSpoilersAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS REMAKE WITH ALL THE GEORGE KAMITANI ARTWORK IN HD!
I AM SO EXCITED YO! I NEED TO PLAY MY COPY ON PSN RIGHT NOW!

Wait wut? SERIOUSLY? Omg. I played Odin Sphere as a little kid. I didn't get very far cause I was a stupid little kid, but the memory of the game still sticks with me. We're talking a full HD remake and not ust a remastering?

my mouth is actually watering at just the thought of that delicious Kamitani artwork in 1080p.
and someone please tell me the thing at the end is an artbook.
like, every special edition game George Kamitani works on should just get an artbook.

and it's legit dude! HD remake!

It's a Remake, not just a remaster
Siliconera says this
"Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir adds new battle actions, maps, enemies, animations, including an enhanced fighting system and additional features to make the overall gameplay smoother and faster than before."
So they're also making it Less Jank.

Vanillaware is also making a shiny new sci-fi game looks like

but I liked the jank.
it made going into new places feel more rewarding which meant the art was also more rewarding.

Vanillaware is also planning on teaming up with Atlus for a new project aside from the remake of Odin Sphere.
please let it be that mecha thing that they showed off for new years.

I'm not sure if I want it to be that kinda robot-y because I'm sorry but to me that particular model looks porn-y
I think it's not enough.

Well you can at least appreciate how pretty it is XD

That mecha at looks fairly appealing to me. Not from the pose of course, but the design man. Those detailed joints, parts, and how everything just fits together to make it LOOK like a robot. It's one of the reason I love the robots from I-Robot and Aigis so much. They've got this cyber-mechanical look and feel to them that makes them feel like sci-fi in the world of the old Itoys, but its a look I kinda like, with all the LED lights and see through plastic and interconnecting parts. Consider me interested to both, I guess XD

"how can we make physics with just 2D images?"
"how can we make a character ride something with a super badass pose?"
"am I in love with this woman George Kamitani drew?"

all are common questions the Vannilaware staff ask on a regular basis.

Well considering Vanillaware tends to be in a line between those faux animations that are just editing a static image to imitate animation (like some of the LoL login screens and such) and actual animations. I distinctly remember that Dragon's Crown had instances of both and it was tough to tell the difference at times just cause it was quite smooth and nice to look at...in multiple ways...

Dragon's Crown is so pretty to look at and awesome to play.
I love the Dwarf with his grapple and semi-tanking abilities.

I play the Archer all day man. Her bow and ridiculous knife and item stuff is just so much fun. To bad she dies super fast. Made the first half of the game before online multiplayer more annoying cause my friends never like to play the same multiplayer game twice :/

yeah, but have you seen the Dwarf ride ANYTHING?

also, I'll definitely play with you some man, just hit me up sometime.
add me to PSN if you want. :)

Ooh I haven't played Dragon's Crown in a while. Played a little bit of everyone but I think my highest were my Sorc and Amazon. Maybe my Dwarf too.

Also I missed out on Odin's Sphere when it first came out, so if there's gonna be a complete remake, I will be there day 1 when it comes out.

I'd have to redownload my copy first, heheheh. But maybe sometime in the future! I'd be down.

man, I need to get back into the game.
my Amazon didn't even get to the stables yet and I've been wanting to play the Sorceress because she looks really fun to play.

I think I just got to the stables iirc....Do I even still have my game data for it?...uh...Ok looks like I do! XD

The mage and Knight match my friends so perfectly...

Seriously though Vanillaware games, despite all the...well all the silliness surrounding Dragon's Crown, they're game are pretty much always great. I'd love to see what they could do, animation wise, if they did something like a fighting game. The animation would rival Skullgirls for godliness.

you can just consider me the Dwarf since I'm so focused on grappling for days.

More details on the Odin Sphere remake
the URL goes to IGN, so here's a sticky-note version of the contents for people who still put the IGN in ignore:

- The the original game comes with the remake, also in HD
- Controls were redone to feel more like Muramasa and Dragon's Crown
- Cross-save confirmed
- New mini-bosses
- the old bosses have new AI, so they're probably tougher now than before

That said, i'm just happy they were able to put the remake on PS3
thanks, based Vanillaware

Odin Sphere is one of my favorite games of all time.

My favorite things about it are easily the story and atmosphere. It's the quintessential video game adventure story to me, like the Star Wars of video games. Likable characters, enchanting world, great pace, lots of twists and turns, fantastical yet tense atmosphere, fantastic conclusion, etc. etc.

Also the way they break up the story into 5 non-chronological stories is brilliant. Forces you to piece things together bit by bit and gives the whole story a sense of scale that you rarely see in games twice as long.

Most people I know hated the gameplay. I actually liked it, but only because I accidentally skipped the part of the tutorial that explained how to level up your damage lol. As a result, every boss fight was an intense gauntlet from hell. Otherwise I have to agree with people who played it normally, too repetitive and too much grinding.

A little polish could have made the gameplay fantastic though, here's hoping that this remake gives the game the care it deserves.

well, considering that they want to make it feel more like Dragon's Crown, yes please.

hopefully SNK can still make games and it's just to get more money to make games.

TBP is good. It feels a bit too unforgiving at times, honestly. Another good one is 1001 Spikes.

i'm just about through 1001 Spikes right now, game is a lot of fun, i love platformers like this. I think my favorite is 'Jumper!' ( aka Ogmo ), it's a standalone .exe you can download off the interwebs. I never played Super Meatboy but it seems like that's another popular one
