Shin Megami Tensei and Persona

oh hey never knew this thread existed. sadly i'm going to be avoiding it for the most part because of potential spoilers. started recently with persona 3 fes and i must say i am really a fan. although the whole boss charming yukari so that he can fully heal was probably the biggest troll i've ever had to deal with in video games lol

Oooh, aren't you in for a real treat when you play P4, sir. lol

bring some butt ointment for Shadow Yukiko.

you're gonna need it.

It's even worse in the final boss fight. If they charm your healer with its signature attack then you might as well throw the controller right there.

Man I remember the first time I fought the last boss in P3, goddamnit Mitsuru.

Well, managed to play the rest of the characters, I like Labrys, I get why people main Akihiko, and Yukiko is such hardcore zoning.
Naoto just feels so weird though, the sheer fact that she just uses a fucking gun in a fighting game is strange.

Naoto with that piece is very useful. Can shoot Kanji out the air when he tries to grab ya. Me like.

So I started Persona 4 Arena and I'm surprised at how little special moves there are

But then, he rolls behind you, and you're kinda screwed, since you can't quickly move or get off the ground enough to avoid being grabbed and stabbed.

He can do that...? (haven't played in awhile) Guess the person I was playing didn't know.

Rolling is a universal mechanic. Anyone can do it.

Here's an interesting question
When there is a Marie mirror match, whose weather is displayed on screen
I've thought this ever since that mechanic of hers was introduced
Maybe its decided through who won the last match (first match is chosen at random) and from there on it's whoever does the hyper that changes the weather

Also I'll just leave this here

the OST is only about 6 character themes remixed.

but if it's a good price pick it up. the story mode is a great form of single player content, but you might be lost considering it starts not long after the end of Persona 4.

Sorry, I meant between the latest P4 Arena and its new update. Is it like MVC3 Vs UMVC3, how online's nonexistent, or Street Fighter, where it's compatible over the different versions.
Also, is the new one going to have so many updates I'll have to restart training to learn around any patches to characters?

online for Arena is probably either dead or only filled with people that will destroy you because it's all they play.

and it's an Arc fighter, so yeah, there are gonna be changes. but still, Arena is great for single player alone. and Ultimax is for if you want to just play with people now.

I recommend getting both.

I'll do that! (so, you're jumping between recommending two series to me, huh? LOL) Last question. Is it like Street Fighter, with a balanced game, or Skullgirls/MVC3 with... ah... "fast" matches?

It's generally balanced, but it's classic ASW style in that there's massive amounts of damage available to all characters if they have the skill and resources.

I'd be willing to join in on P4A, so long as I'm still awake/not at work by that point.

Edit: Wait, on PSN or XBL, because I've only got it on 360.

I'd be willing to join in on a Skullheart Arena/Ultimax group, if only on the weekends.

once I get things settled I'll definitely jump on an Ultimax group. I call Dojima. I always call Dojima.

How long does the P4A Story Mode take?
Yu's story alone took 2 hours.
Not that I'm complaining.
If your talking about the first Arena game then 30-40 hours if your on auto-read. Mostly due to each character in the game with the exception of S.Labrys having a story path with occasional dialogue path branches for some + anime scenes. Labrys story in particular has a ton of text/dialogue.

Supposedly Ultimax story is considerably shorter since it's taking the BB CP approach of storytelling to avoid recounting the same events under different POV's but will have more anime scenes to compensate.

By "massive amounts of damage", do you mean like that 60-something hit yang combo, or doom?
Either way, I'll pick it up for sure!

I just started on P4A today, and I'm having a blast! I totally suck, but I still feel like I can do stuff as long as I am careful. The single button combo option is a really nice way to ease new players in.

Man, you just brought back my memories of sfiv 3d... Both good and bad LOL

I think I'm starting to like this meme

He better not cancel on us again
Anyway yes I'd be so good for a weekend Ultimax lobby
10 am to 5:40 pm on Fridays and Saturdays work for me (its the only free time I have in the week excluding work, school, church, and family stuff and i'm giving it to you guys so more people better get in on this)
Oh yeah almost forgot I have it on PS3 so I'll only be able to get in if the lobby is held on PSN
But really now where else would it be (sorry people who brought the Dreamcast port)
