Souls Series and Bloodborne

Soft Caps? I didn't know this was a thing, I just started the Ancient Memories and I'm around SL 150.

I still haven't beaten the game.
Here's a vid explaining the soft and hard caps for stats, starts at 2:50 in.

Oh by soft caps I thought everyone was talking about self-imposed rules or some shit.

By the looks of it my stats are pretty good, my Adaptability is a little low though.

I stopped leveling myself around SL 134 but even then I felt like I was over leveled for a first run of this game. With the right weapon (Black Knight Halberd +5/Fire infused estoc +10) and a good shield I didn't have to wear anything more than Knight's armor and the Travelling Merchant's hat because I loved the Beret from my starter class. Since I'm borrowing my copy of DaS2 for the Xbox and returning it tonight I won't have time to do a NG+ but hopefully I can get it to run on my PC so I won't have to worry about paying for XBL. (I got a free month from McDonalds earlier this year). I enjoyed the game and I might write down some of my thoughts later on but it was a solid design with a few problems that stop it from overtaking it's predecessors completely.

New question. What's the best Covenant for PvP? I like random mutual matches with good chances for multiple opponents at once, something like what I see in OnlyAfro's videos.

Bellkeepers if you want consistent combat in more arena style areas.
Ratguard if you want to do some Pv(PvE) gray phantom trolling.

Thanks Paper I'll keep that in mind. Here's another question, what are the perks of being in the Dragon Covenant?

Unrelated but still important, these Giants in the Ancient Memories are just fucking wrecking me. I think I might just be unsuited for fighting them, or maybe I'm going about it the wrong way. I think I'm just going to rush through these levels without fighting them.

To answer your first question, the items obtained from the dragon covenant lead to some rather interesting changes to your body. I can go into more detail if you don't care for spoilers.

And fuck the memory giants, just run past them. They're good for soul farming, but other than that you can run past, like 80% of them without fighting them.

Totally worked, I just ran by them like a bitch. I only had to kill three and I did it with Sorceries and my Bow.

Can't comment on the dragon covenant but I know that the giants are all weak to fire so pyromancy or fire infused weapons can help.

And like Agent York says, memory giants are big and mean for no reason so just run past them and only fight if you get boxed in.

Are you talking about those things that changes your head and body into dragon parts? How does that spoil anything?

Was just trying to cover all the bases. Some people are extremely anal about any sort of spoilers at all, and I just wanted to avoid getting disproportionate rage from anybody.

Anyone who would get pissed off over that needs immediate surgery get the frozen stick up their ass removed.

To be fair I kept myself on a media blackout regarding Dark Souls 2 from November till I was in the endgame in order to go into the game fresh. You only get one first blind playthrough and games like this benefit from a little fumbling around and discovering what's new. New game+ is fair game for guides and FAQ's though in my opinion because some things can be pretty obtuse.

Changing how you progress through certain NPC stories by requiring them to be with you and survive 3 boss fights was a dick move. I spent most of the early game hollow and conserving human effigies because they were so rare and necessary to keep me from being stuck with 50% (75% with ring of binding) health through the hard parts of the game. I knew about NPC summons in general but chose to abstain from them because I could puzzle out most boss patterns within 1-2 deaths and just kill them while hollowed.

Next run through I'm definitely going to complete Lucatiel and Benhart's storylines.

Warning you now, prepare to rage trying to get Lucatiel through. Even compared to other summons, her AI is super wacked. When she isn't cowering behind her shield against a boss that isn't even paying attention to her, she's running off cliffs to her death or going out of her way to aggro enemies that aren't even close to her. The Rotten and Flexile Sentry are pretty easy, but having her survive the Smelter Demon or The Lost Sinner is the hardest part. Redeye Ring is a godsend for getting npcs through a boss fight btw.

Lucatiel, Benhart, Pate, Creighton, etc. I summoned them all and whether or not they lived or died during the boss fights it didn't seem to affect their story lines, all it seemed to change was whether or not I would get a reward.

Wait, I forget if Creighton could even be summoned.

I killed Nashandra.

I can't tell if that was a joyful or sorrowful ending, I can't even say it was bittersweet. There wasn't any context, there wasn't any resolution or conclusion.

It just ended.

Speaking of sad endings.
IF there's one thing I'll never ever ever do in Dark Souls.
It's kill Priscilla.
That shit just ain't happening.
You could pay me and I still wouldn't do it.

you better not have touched her tail either.

the fluffyness of the great waifubreed must not be sullied by commoner's hands. insignificant peons think they can lay a hand on the Sun Bro's niece like she's fair game.

may the sun have mercy on your soul

you haven't even played the first game, so you don't know the preciousness that is half-breed Priscilla, niece of the great Sun Bro himself \[T]/

She's the giant furry right?

I wouldn't even call her remotely furry. mainly she's half-giant woman half dragon, but a majority of her physical features are human.

also the fact that she didn't really get much in terms of her dad's genes.

So that hallway before the guardian dragon in aldia's keep? I hate it. Only because that grab those trolls have always get me even when I'm like 2 feet away from them :/ That annoys me far more than I think is healthy...

NVM, I'm in the Dragon Aerie now. I feel like a rabbit in a thunderstorm

That's what I noticed about the game myself. Once you get the Drangleic shield you don't really need any others until the Dragon Shrine because it's close to the first shield you can get with 100% physical resistance and you don't really need to upgrade it.
There is the blue kite shield once you get to the iron keep. I just use it beause it's lighter. I two hand my weapons a majority of the time so my opinion might be flawed.

Imo it's the brother hood of blood simply because the PVP is free and you can do it as much as you want. And invasions.

To me the the bell keepers are a gank covenant kind of like the forest hunters. If you like to gank join them if you like one on one Id say Brotherhood of Blood.

What the hell is gank?

I've never heard that term in my life.

Whatever it is it sounds like something I'd find in the sewers.

In the context I'm using it in it means to double, triple or quadruple team someone. Usually when someone talks about "ganking" its what they're talking about. It's looked down upon alot of the time by "Honorable Players" but thats a conversation entirely.

I don't have the money to throw around for XBLA Gold, so I've unfortunately never experienced Dark Souls PvP before in either game.
It's probably for the best. The X360 community was littered with hackers. Not to say the PS3 one was devoid of them but it certainly ran rampant on the X360 side.

Oh by soft caps I thought everyone was talking about self-imposed rules or some shit.
It can also be. On my part it is. I appreciate the idea of specialized builds.

Lucatiel and Benhart's storylines.
The patch REALLY worked wonders for Lucatiel. I took on the Sentry and Lost Sinner with her, she tanked them through the entire fight and survived.
Of course, Luc is prone to take a swim on the way to The Lost Sinner. To be fair, that mask kinda kills her peripheral vision.
Don't know how you folks do it but I always clean the area before summoning so they have full HP when we get to the boss.

you better not have touched her tail either.
You don't get to tell me what I can or can't do. :P

I still think Gough is a better aniki...

Alright, I think I'm satisfied with just staying at level 150 for NG+ and beyond. Crystal Soul Spear is so much fun :D

Holy shit this is amazing, I love Gavlan. Wheel and deal motherfucker, wheel and deal.

Did that fucking mushroom one-shot the poor guy
It's what they do. And that guy was asking for it.
The shrooms are there almost like a malicious prank. They hit HARD and their poise is absurd. Havel absurd.

Fun fact: at top difficulty, the mushrooms in Dragon's Crown can also OHKO the player. I think it's a deliberate homage as they're the only enemy capable of that.

EDIT: on the note of Gavlan...
"With Gavlan, you wheel? You deal!"
I still don't get why he says that crap like he's threatening you. Freakin' Gyrm extortionist.
