Because Year of Yoshi sounds even more painful than Year of Luigi.

Ok, I was wrong.
They made Super Mario Strikers, Punch-Out!!! Wii, and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

So it's most likely an annoucement related to one of those three

Ehhh.... I know what you're saying, but I didn't really consider the Lumas children. Some were pretty educated that were still in that same shape. They were naive, yes, but that's most of the residents of the Mario universe.
 
Unrelated to Smash, but Soraya Saga, wife of the head of Monolith Soft, retweeted about this Direct.

Why is this significant? She's only retweeted for Directs where X is involved.

So I was playing the Streetpass games on my 3DS on the toilet and I realized, there's like a hat for almost every Smash Bros character in this! Like, the only missing ones are the newcomers to Smash 4, the third parties, some second parties (Mother, Fire Emblem, Pokemon,) and then like, Ganondorf.

It'd be totally cool if they added all the hats for all the characters, so like, when you Streetpass someone, you could rep your main.
That's be so needlessly cool, especially for Smash 3D, which will for sure find a use for Streetpass. Hell, Zelda did it, and they said not to expect anything!

A fan of Nintendo Direct, saying they have no idea what's in it... Yeah I'm not trusting this. The no idea part is what makes it suspicious.

If it's nothing notable, silly, or has no dialogue, Nintendo Direct reveal.
If it has something telling you to watch Nintendo Direct, definitely reveal.
If it's just Diddy then we got nothing for Nintendo Direct

Um, as a clarification, Donkey Kong Country Return had me in tears when it was revealed at E3 that one year. Other M had me wowing, but DKCR had me cry. Metroid may be my favorite, but DKC hits me hard. So Hell yeah I smell Diddy Kong. If not, watch out Sakurai.
