The Smash Bros Discussion Thread

Really, everyone's complaining about the heels making Samus into a "weak woman stereotype" but think about this.

She's jumping around in those things.

That's not weak at all.

Plus,

Badass's wear heels nowadays.

I love how people are bashing Zero Suit Samus's heels on the other forums to them I say...

If that image were a comic strip the next panel would be ZSS falling over.

Clawsome called himself an idiot. That's what I'm getting out of all this.

Pretty much yeah. When it comes to competitive Smash, I know just about nothing.

I'd like to learn, though. Little Mac is a character I'd like to actually play with rather that throwing Straight Lunges everywhere.

Well yeah I know what they are, just not why they were bad
They're bad because pressure game can often force players to the end of the stage. On normal stages, it's fine because that person could easily escape off the stage and find a clever way to return where the air is anyone's game. Walk-offs just fucking kill you if that situation happens and it's really not fair, especially if there's a character that can put that kind of horizontal pressure on opponents (I can imagine Mega Man's rocks can easily do that)

I'm actually okay with Samus's new heels. Oddly, given the type of shoe, these look athletic and kind of gender-neutral. Also helps that they're being treated more as equipment rather than mere clothing.

I don't see the big deal with Walk offs, if you are foolish enough to go there and be unsafe against throws it is your fault

...Did you just miss the part that it's possible to be forced to the end of the stage, regardless of skill level?

I don't think you understand what a chain throw is...

you are right, but I thought they took those out

If they were accidentally present in Brawl, you can bet your patootie that they'll find a way into this game. ESPECIALLY with Brawl-like physics with obviously INCREASED hitstun.

Woah. I just noticed something.

Little Mac's wire frame costume is one-way only. When you look through him only the wires closest to you are visual, the ones on the other side of his body are invisible.

Also Palutena's Temple is gigantic! It looks like another Battlefield is in the upper left corner.

That's amazing. That's the little details that make Sakurai amazing.

Now when's the rest of our legacy costumes

Palutena's temple looks like two smaller Hyrule Temples with a bridge connecting them, plus a battlefield that hangs out in the corner.

That's a texture. You see it from one side and not another. It's not a "alt costume" but rather just another colour.

If you play competitively against people that are willing to do whatever they can to win, you will get people that will literally sit by the blast zone the entire match and just wait for you to come to them and throw you off.

>put Squigly in Smash
>pick Squigly
>throw someone
>cancel into Center Stage
>win

Center Stage in Smash would be so broken.

Double confirmed.

Interesting changes to moves here. I'd like to take a second to speculate if I may. In this gif we see Bowser performing his firebreath on Marth and Mario during the assist trophy portion of the direct (Meaning it's not addressed fully as new properties to moves but rather passively seen). With that, here's what I think:

I believe that Bowser's breath has been changed to a move that does not cause flinch and does slight pushback towards the outer hitboxes. Also, I think Marth's counter has been changed similarly in that he can only counter moves that cause flinching (Meaning he likely can't counter Fox's lasers anymore(Not that that's a smart strantegy to begin with)). Mario is outside of invincibility and Marth is in counter frames and both are being affected by the move. So what do you guys think? Pretty cool change yeah? Frankly the breath was very annoying in both melee and brawl (Even if it was EASILY countered, there was always those startup frames that got you). I welcome Bowser's ember's of awesome.

And this is why I don't like competitive Smash players

?

I thought it was pretty funny.

hey I would like to point out I heard the Pokefloats BGM, Pichu and Pokefloats confirmed to return

Pokefloats BGM was in Brawl, so I could see them just importing a bunch of special-Smash-remixes for the WiiU stages, but Pichu and Pokefloats the stage...

ur a liar lindsey

Maybe he can't counter projectiles anymore?
Possibly... We can't know for sure. It could be either he can't counter projectiles, or he doesn't counter moves that inflict passive damage (Those bowser flames, pikmin, fox's laser). Being unable to counter a fully charged Samus shot irks me a little bit for some reason...

Well hold on... you're definitely onto something. Marth isn't flashing anymore when the first little hit connects with him. But there's something I noticed: Mario manages to get hit before Marth even when he is farther away. Granted it's only a frame or two. Logically, the hitbox wouldn't disappear, phase through Marth and the become active again simply to hit Mario before Marth. So it seems that Marth's counter has certain invincibility to the breath during his active frames.

It actually looks like the fire started hitting Mario and Marth at the same time, but Marth still didn't get hit at first. Maybe his counter dodges projectiles now, like Mac's Side B?

That could likely be the case. It all depends on what kind of projectiles are used on the counter. If they shot a ray gun at Marth while countering and it passed right by him, I'd be convinced fully that this was the case, but we weren't graced with a better look at it so we'll have to wait. Grrr.

The 3DS version makes me question how much stress the Circle Pad can take. I'm honestly a little afraid for the possibility of breaking it.

This.

After the fishing minigame in OoT 3D, my circle pad hasn't been the same.

Then you'd just end up with a broken d-pad.
