The Smash Bros Discussion Thread

It is still in development. Plus, this thing seems like it's mostly a Wii U centric feature, and that's coming out in Winter, so they got some time.

Did they confirm whether or not For Glory is in the 3DS game yet?
they didnt not confirm it, the only exclusive platform thing they announced was that online adventure mode/Level up/4 Man Brawl

So, assist trophies.

I'm pretty positive now that there are some stage specific ones now.

I mean, look at pong. Can you, for one minute, think that that assist would work on any non-final-destination stage?

Yeah.
I can.
Really easily in fact.

I'm just curious if like, if you unlock all the characters in the 3DS version, you can connect to the Wii U version to unlock them all.

I might not do that just so I can unlock them all again for fun :D

That sounds sorta pointless.

I doubt you'd be able to do a crossplay mechanic like that.

also, arent there also gonna be 3DS only characters and WiiU only characters?

No, they explicitly said that both games are going to have the same roster.

Yeah, you're thinking of certain stages being platform-exclusive.

Maybe this is a long shot in our day and age.
But I honestly think a password input system would work really well.
So you wouldn't have to unlock all the characters if you didn't want to but if you did want to you could.
Like aside from a button that pops up when you first start the game that says Do you want to start with all the characters or just the starting ones, that seems like the best option to me. You could even put the code in the manual it'll be just like old times.

Character wise? No.

Really on that Side Smash? That does not sound accurate somehow... Dr. Mario's and even Bowser's seems more likely...
As someone who considers Pichu a secondary main in Melee, his version of Skull Bash is amazing, one of the best singular moves once you get past the self-damage and almost double Pikachu's charge time. THE best horizontal distance in the game on a full charge, around 20% damage, and it's one of the moves with a smaller damage tax on Pichu.

We have no idea, but chances are some unlocks will be different across versions maybe?
Would be pretty easy for all of them to be different if they want, and it would be a nice touch for those of us that have already played the hell out of the 3ds version.
Of course I'm sure there's some way the 3ds and wii u can interact for something as simple as reading your save data if they wanted to.
Another thing, I hope to god the unlock conditions aren't as tedious as they've been in the past. They were sort of like the worst kind of achievement. The ones that are completely arbitrary like "kill 1000 enemies!", except you can't ignore them because they're tied to great characters. I remember trying to get Mewtwo, how the only way anyone bothered unlocking him was by leaving their gamecube on overnight because the regular methods were so ridiculously boring.

Horseman: I dunno, it's a lot better to just beat the Even Match that unlocks Mewtwo. And I personally excuse G&W's unlock conditions in Melee since they were obviously going for the idea that he was a "final unlock", what with being the last to challenge you from doing the vs. mode method or needing a 1p-mode clear with every other character.

Jutsei: How would we not be spoiled on the roster if the site clearly isn't going to designate if secret characters are still a thing, let alone who is unlockable (though we could probably assume so for the characters with perfect locked attendence)?

aside from characters that are already released that are pretty obviously unlockable

"Pic of the day. Your character starts a Smash Run as a relatively ordinary fighter. But before the game, you can outfit yourself with certain items that can help power you up early, which will give you a big advantage later on!! These items are much like the Powers you'd find in Kid Icarus: Uprising."

And by Kid Icarus Uprising, he means Kirby's Air Ride.* :P

*As spoken by someone who hasn't played Uprising.

EDIT: Wait, he meant the items instead of the power-ups, my bad.

Are they discounting all of the final destination stages?

And this is why I don't like competitive Smash players
Sakurai added all the final destination stages for a reason...

It's like they didn't even watch the direct..

I'm pretty sure that's a live reaction video, as in, before the Final Destination stuff was revealed.

My favorite part was them seeing Mario Galaxy and immediately yelling BANNED before it even had a chance.

Geez...

And what's wrong with walk-off stages?

Walk-off stages aren't very good for competitive play because characters tend to be able to force you across a stage into the blast zone as well as justcamp by the boundaries. Stages with walls have a problem with usually allowing infinites against them.

Oh.

*slowly picks Wii Fit stage*

The Galaxy stage had been shown before, everyone already knows what it looks like.

I don't get what ya'll's problem is, they're just talking about tournament play and said several of the stages are fine.
They didn't the stages were awful just that they'd never be allowed in tournaments.

Guess I'm a Weenie then.

Yes. Yes you are. Even non-competitive players know what walk-offs are. Jeez.

Well yeah I know what they are, just not why they were bad.

When it comes to competitive Smash at all, for me it's like

Clawsome called himself an idiot. That's what I'm getting out of all this.

You must admit those are some ENORMOUS heels, though.

But what if there's no chain grabs in Smash 4? Then would they be okay?

Considering they have literally been in every game up to this point, I have very little faith in them being eliminated. Chaingrabs into the boundaries weren't the only way to force someone across the stage, there was diddy's banana lock and a lot of jab locks.
