The Smash Bros Discussion Thread

Not the christmas present I wanted....I guess Rosalina was just an early one.

With all due respect, I blame Starfy's lack of playability on the fact that he just doesn't have that much of an impact stateside.

The only Starfy game Nintendo released ended up tanking in sales. (Which is sad because it's not really bad. It's okay) I have no clue what Starfy's status is in Japan but I assumed it was pretty damn popular since he's had games dating back as early as GBA.

Yeah, I played it. It was really meh in every use of the word. The final boss was hard, yeah, but the rest of the game was piss easy and just felt a little frustrating with how much fetching you had to do.
As a character I'm alright with him (my thing I wrote was a joke, don't worry) but I think he's perfect for being an assist trophy cause he is a one-trick-pony. Here's hoping though he's actually useful like in Super Smash Flash 2 where he can actually rack up some damage and launch at the end of his combo. Maybe if they remove the fact you can hurt him it might help.

My problem with it is that I felt like Nintendo of America waited too late to localize a Starfy game and ended up unintentionally giving us one of the weaker entries to try test the waters (pun not intended) with and it blew up in their face. (I had the same opinion of the GCN Custom Robo as well) Had they started with one of the GBA games, Starfy might've stood out as a new Nintendo IP but w/o actually playing those, it's just a theory.

Actually I was watching the Rosalina trailer and if you look carefully at this screenshot you can see part of his whip to the left of Peach I say he's confirmed

God I hope Ridley's in. I mean look at him! He's huge and ferocious and cool! I can't really think up a good moveset right now, but he should definitely be in because Metroid doesn't have enough reps (And because I like him)!
 
I want Ridley in but what would his intro movie be?
Someone on Smash Boards said it should be Samus, Captain Falcon, and Jigglypuff (Dragon Slayer) hunting for him in a space station

1.) Another Ridley debate
2.) Rosalina
3.) Rosalina
4.) Rosalina
5.) Rainbow Road Stage Rosalina

Did I miss anything else?

B: Fireball
Side-B: That move where he grabs Samus and smothers her across the wall.
Up-B: Flight or whatever
Down-B: Ground Smash a la Bowser.

You have to work more on your sarcastic criticisms.
 
Also, might I suggest the idea if we want gimmick characters Ridley could have the gimmick of being huge? I'm being completely serious with that, make him the biggest character of the cast and develop his playstyle around that.

Yes! Please yes! I think it would be amazing to have Ridley be the biggest character so that he can whip his tail across the stage and hit basically everything. I mean come on, that'd be awesome. Haha, and it'd be funny because basically every projectile that appears on stage will hit him. I think that's a great balance!

same reason applies for Magnus, Ghirahim, Cranky Kong and that guy from Excitebike

Wow, such imagination. Really, you could go novel-length with the moveset of the guy and not get what Sakurai could make for him.

For example, when Ridley uses his Up B, it gives him flight, and he can still fight from there, but only use his tail. When he breaks out of this, he falls, but with his tail pointed down as a sort of weapon, his wings sort of speeding the fall.

And you know his air-D is a tail attack. Don't even deny it.

That was a safe choice on Sakurai's part.

That Phantom picture means one of two things
A. Down B is a Phantom Striker
B. Phantom Assist Trophy

And given how the Phantom is in a non-super deformed design/look, it's really hard to say.

I'm going to go with the Phantom Striker being an assist trophy.

Two pictures on Zelda's page show her in the exact same pose, one with the Phantom, one without.
 
You can literally never tell with Sakurai.
Again, the biggest point of contention is the Phantom.
There hasn't been a single game where the Phantom has been non-super deformed.
They've always been in Wind Waker games and as such are in the cutesy art style.
If it WAS an Assist you'd think it'd be super deformed or in the Toon style, right?
But it's not.
It's Twilight Princess style.
