Watching her short clip, she is definitely a Semi-Clone of some sort to Villager, same up B, same Final Smash, with a few original new moves.
I think she managed to get promoted to a fully playable character and not an Echo due to the fact she was far easier to make due to her simplistic style and a few clone-isms here and there. But damn, good on Sakurai.

Sakurai is far too powerful, he radiates energy, far more than Todd Howard at E3. Like, he didn't need to do this but he did just 'cuz.

I was a teensy bit disappointed but I think that’s partly because I just never felt animal crossing meshed with me well, partly because I was anticipating more than a semi clone. But to be fair this smash section was taking a backseat to the animal crossing switch game so I understand.

Maybe now I’ll get an animal crossing early in instead of new leaf so I can appreciate it more (is it weird I actually own new leaf and thought Isabelle was a “eh?” Character?? I feel like that’s weird)
 
She's adorableee!
She's one of those characters I didn't care too much about but she makes sense, and people are happy she's in, she looks fun and nice, so I'm happy too.

Isabelle as a character is a resounding "eh" for me
but her actual moveset is pretty swanky as a Villager semi

I haven't really had any characters i had much attachment to with this group of newcomers yet except maybe Chrom, so hopefully there's still time for me to get a character i've been rallying behind
 
Honestly I feel the best part is that Isabelle wasn't leaked or spoiled at all.
Kinda a case in point in why I hate leakers and how they deflate surprises and hype by spoiling everything.
 
I had vague mixed feelings during the reveal and still do. It's really funny that they showed a scene of her in the office and then it's like "she's a Smash character!" then Tom Nook talked about getting back to work and they dropped the AC reveal. But... I don't particularly care about either thing on their own. There are quite a few characters I'd want before Isabelle, and I've been replaying Rune Factory 4 which is like the best Harvest Moon game ever made so I don't need an Animal Crossing.

She has some fun stuff and if she still has the slingshot I might give her a go, but I'm already fired up to try reworked Palutena.
 
The fact she's a Semi-Clone also gives hope for two things.
1. She may have been a complete Villager Echo until Sakurai felt like they could give her more without too much effort and resources being taken away, which means some other Echoes might've gotten the same treatment (Imagine if Octoling was gonna be an Echo and instead got to be a Semi-Clone, DLC or not)
2. This means Semi-Clones are still an option and it won't all just be Echo fights

Isabelle was mentionwd in the vergebern leaks iirc, so if you wanna dig that up go ahead. Also 2 more characters seems very plausible, as that will leave one new character per mpnth before smash comes out, not including December since the game comes out on the 7th

Because I'm stubborn and I fuckin' hate leaks.
Really just waiting for him to be proven wrong and he had extremely lucky guesses
 
Someone raised a pretty dang ole' good point about Isabelle.
Yeah, she was a Mii costume, but she was a Mii costume in Wave 2, which was BEFORE the Ballot.
She wasn't a ballot pick, like how some (debatably not smart) people thought every character added this game would be a ballot pick.
But given her popularity and how she's another face of Animal Crossing, it should still come as no surprise she made it in.
 
I remember friends of mine picking up Mario Kart 8 because they heard you could race as Isabelle, she's way more popular than what the Smash "Geno and Isaac are the most asked for characters" bubble wwould make you believe.
 
I don't see how her Mii costume being revealed before the ballot
somehow means she wasn't requested highly enough in the ballot for the Smash team to notice
but alright
 
For some reason people think Incineroar is gonna be the Gen 7 rep for this game due to some fancy pants leaker?
If true, I will actually, literally, shit my pants in raw, unfiltered anger. And that's a promise.
I hate Incineroar so goddang much. Worst fire starter design ever. Coulda been a cool tiger but nah we needed yet another humanoid fighting shmuck.
 
Yeah, the most popular leaker right now (who's gotten almost every claim he's made correct so far) is claiming that Incineroar and Ken (as a Ryu echo) are our next two characters. He's also claiming that we're getting another Square Enix character but won't say who.

There's also another leaker I'm following that says Dante's going to be in too. It seems farfetched, but he's gotten a ton of bizarrely specific stuff right concerning DMC5 (not to mention he leaked the Tekken 7 season 2 patch notes a few days before they dropped) so it's actually looking pretty likely to me.
 
The only other Square Enix character, who's massively popular, that I can think of is Sora.
I see them announcing him during the end of a direct after they confirm the Kingdom Hearts series will be on the switch.

I'm hoping for Geno personally. Cecil or Terra would be cool too.
 
Like I said, until proven, leaks are false, and I REALLY don't think we're only getting 3 more characters until December. If you guys wanna pull up my vehement denial of the Shulk and Bowser Jr leak from 5 years ago, be my guest, but I still ain't believing either of those leaks.

Also if Dante was in I promise Kamiya called it in as a favor to finally get Bayonetta and Dante in the same game

Honestly I don't expect a single other pokemon rep, ESPECIALLY from gen 7, to be playable in the game. And not just because gen 7 came out quite a bit ago and also after the ballot tbh it's just that pokemon rep is already hitting critical mass with pichu, ivysaur, and squirtle being added back. Pokemon really, genuinely has enough and the game seems to be focusing on video games as a whole.

(Also literally every argument saying Decidueye is going to be in makes no sense, none. For a grass starter that's why the pokemon trainer exists. The archetype of flying winged archer is already in the game, twice as Pit and Dark Pit.)

this plus Richter and Isabelle are the only characters that probably weren't the most popular on the ballot, and yet they're both heavily reusing assets of other characters. Isabelle is Dr. Mario levels of close. We just have 0 indication that anyone that isn't the most popular is going to be uniquely playable.

I expect a rhythm heaven rep partly because Mr. Game and Watch has those slick new animations (practice with shifting 2d animations in Smash) and everyone thought the chorus kids were originally meant for Smash meant they voted for them a decent bit in the ballot I believe

I know that. That doesn't mean it won't happen. Besides KH has been on Nintendo platforms already and Sakurai has done the impossible so much.

One of the VPs at Disney Japan has said that all KH stuff is still a collaborative decision between both Disney and Square, and that as long as Nintendo asks, they could theoretically let Sora get in
 
sora is a good pick to pad the roster because there's 6 other Soras that can be clones/echoes/costumes
 
I am sure Gex got his chances for Smash Ultimate!
apparently he's now a Square Enix owned character
 
Wait, !Wolly! Yoshi isn't the new default, is he? Ohhhh, these are just the extra costumes.

Honestly, I wish Pika Libre was an Echo. Those rolling charge attacks and potential suplex Pika-cide strats would be terrifying.
