Hmm yeah I worded that poorly, I kept seeing arguments that Decidueye had to be added to the game because it'd be the "pokemon starter trifecta" or something, because last game had charizard the fire type, greninja the water type, but no grass type. I found it a weird argument because pokemon trainer I thought was supposed to represent "three starter pokemon and their types" type of deal
 
I'm actively rooting against Cross, but Elma and Rex are two of my most wanteds overall.

EDIT: I hate to keep posting leaks here, but we seem to have an actually legit image leak of a certain new echo fighter.

The guy who posted this claims it's from an old test build of the game.

Notice how Pac-Man has no shadow and that Ken's shadow is cut off? Someone pointed out to me that, in the E3 demo build, that specific floor panel on Moray Towers is bugged and shadows don't display on it. Either this is legit, or the faker has paid an amazing attention to detail.

I don’t mind if that leak is true tbh, the only worry if it’s one of the last 2 characters along with Incineroar like people are claiming. That’s be such an oddly unexciting way to end

Why are people claiming Incineroar is going to be playable anyway? Are people just that dedicated to the idea that pokemon has to has to get a newcomer every game?

The most reliable leaker we've got so far is claiming Incineroar and Ken are our next two characters (he's also saying that those aren't the only two left). It probably helps that Incineroar has been getting pushed pretty hard in the anime and in merchandise, so he makes sense from a business standpoint.

It’d still be so, so odd. The closest we’ve gotten to an indication that a newcomer will be not so much based on the ballot was Isabelle, who’s a half-clone. I don’t want to be one of those “waste of a slot” people but literally everything surrounding Ultimate would make Incineroar one of the most stick out sore thumbs ever in a video game.

Sure they may be getting pushed, but I never once thought they were the most popular new pokemon gen starter, never ever?

You are correct.
No one likes Incineroar 'cuz they wanted him to stay on all fours and be a cool Tiger.
Instead, it's all about Decidueye, who's already in Pokken, and has more basis for a moveset, and that's why people want him more
(Also to balance out Charizard, Greninja)

And like I said before Decidueye's inclusion logic is also shaky at best ever since charizard got absorbed back into the pokemon trainer, which nicely hits the water/grass/fire dynamic pokemon has, plus some of the other problems Incineroar has with being a character released after the ballot that can't be an echo or half-clone.

Part of why I'm just hesitant to believe a single new pokemon will come in is because of Ultimate's so far philosophy relating to "EVERYONE IS HERE" and how it relates to the celebration of video games as a whole. At this point a 10th freaking pokemon character would feel like a drop in the bucket, which just seems to contradict the vibe the game is giving. Even characters like Ridley and K. Rool that are technically apart of veteren series still tackle previous smash titles had which was a lack of playable villain characters. To put in a new playable fighter that's not that popular to begin with, that's apart of a generation already on its way out for the new Switch one, in a game that seems to be promoting high fan demand characters seems outright backwards to me.
 
Don't forget, literally every Smash game has had at least one Pokemon newcomer.

64: Pikachu, Jigglypuff
Melee: Pichu, Mewtwo
Brawl: PT, Lucario
Sm4sh: Greninja

Heck, if you count solo Charizard in Sm4sh, then every game has added two, not that I actually expect this game to add two Pokemon.

Maybe this is actually why I'm hitting a snitch on adding another pokemon, cause they kinda already did this by re-adding Pichu, Squirtle, and Ivysaur?

And we know Squirtle and Ivysaur for certain had to be essentially remade from the ground up right? I thought that was noted at some point with the returning veterans.

How is Doomguy/Slayer more relevant to Sony than Nintendo?
 
We might be getting a new character reveal next week!

Someone noticed that Nintendo uploaded an unlisted private video and then added it to the Smash character trailer playlist.

They've done this with previous character reveals. Isabelle's was uploaded about a week in advance.
 
I hope it's a Lucina/Robin-type reveal, just a single trailer uploaded without too much fanfare that torpedoes all the leaks.
Seriously, that Robin trailer saved a lot of the Smash 4 Hype.
Then that ESRB leak threw a baseball at my legs.
 
I've been seeing and reading that the supposed character reveal is Ninten from Earthbound. I hope this isn't the case.
 
Ninten is actually my most wanted echo. I don't feel that MOTHER 1 has aged particularly well, but it would be nice to complete the trinity.

Giegue is actually my most wanted MOTHER series newcomer. lol
They would have to BS a moveset for him, but that didn't stop them with Captain Falcon, Fox, Ice Climbers, etc.

Poo, Kumatora, or Masked Man would be cool too.

Maybe impossible, but so was Cloud getting in.

That's too recent. SBU's roster got finalized late 2015/early 2016, so Crash was probably way out of the question
 
Cloud was considered the "face of final fantasy" to Sakurai, and since final fantasy held a pretty decent chunk of their games on nintendo consoles it was seen as an exception for Sakurai

So with that in mind Crash feels especially unlikely, coupled with the fact that he really only just recently got popular again (after the ballot)

and again again, all information points to new characters being purely based on the ballot, and even if there is an exception they've all been echos or at least heavily reusing assets (Richter and Isabelle)

Short story: French person posts video on snapchat. Someone snags some screenshots of it before it got deleted. People did some snooping and found a name that revealed he works at a printing company very closely related to Namco Bandai
Supposed characters are Geno, Banjo&Kazooie, Mach Rider, Geno, Chorus Kids, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Ken

Wait why Mach Rider that's literally really throwing me off

Like I know Mach Rider was planned for Melee at one point but was he popular in the polls?

All leaks are fake until proven true.

Remind yourself: If a leak sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Don't get too excited/attached to this leak.
What if it's fake, and a character you wanted isn't in the game? You'd be upset and mad at something that was never promised.

Even though I've heard his name throughout the years, I think sakurai just wants him in lol. He was never in the leagues of Banjo and K rool

As someone who holds "leaks aren't fact unless it's 100% bulletproof" as a rule, this one is pretty... well, if it's a hoax it's pretty elaborate. The remaining roster seems rather odd to me, aside from the very obvious echos and 3 Ridley/K.Rool tier requests but when the dude's identity was in the leak, and he does in fact work for a marketing company that does in fact do work for Namco... Well, as said, seems pretty elaborate for a hoax.

That said, far from guaranteed, just means someone put some effort in and we still get a blurry ass picture in the end.

Well this guy aso had Grinch merchandise scattered around which no one has been able to trace back yet, which means if its fake, he faked the poster, made a vid, deleted it, and also faked...Grinch Merchandise, all to fool us and get 15 minutes of fame. Hate to say it but The Grinch fucking nails the leak.
