Realistically what do you think Skullgirls' life span is after the last DLC?

A watchbase that is right there next ot you, online watchers don't count

In like 3 months, the watcherbase is going to move on to the next stream. I'd rather just watch this stream that has more watchers instead.

I'd watch the stream, but I bet it's pretty dead. I'll consider watching if there's a watcherbase.
I guess you missed the part where I'm still playing the game with the two other people that show up to local events.

But trolling is so much more fun than actually reading what people post, isn't it?

I felt so bad I'm so sorry peanuts ;__; !!!! <-
S'all good, I got to eat not one but two cakes. Anyone who could have gone but didn't fucked up.

WTF is this even supposed to mean?

Or are you just doing that "hey guys, I'm making a post that makes no sense at all in reply to a post I don't like, aren't I an amazing troll?" thing?

The House of Goons was a fighting game house in Dallas. It was a large part of why Dallas and TX were so strong in Tekken and Mortal Kombat. Give or take some VA/GA transplants anyhow.

I'm saying that with some effort you build your scene, it doesn't just happen to you or your city.

At the end of the day, though, unless you have a mind control ray, if people in my area would rather play SF4/MvC3/KoF XIII/BlazBlue/P4A/SCV, there's not a lot to be done about it. Sure, I can (and did) spend two hours driving back and forth between my house and the venue hauling PC/cables so that we can have a setup, but I can't force people to play.

After playing a set with Krye where, by the end, there was a decent sized chunk of people behind us watching, I could only get two of the people who just watched to actually play some casuals at all (oh, and one of them is someone who played in the SDE days, and dropped the game).

(EDIT: this isn't to say that I regret the effort of hauling my PC to the venue. Quite the opposite; I had a blast playing with Krye and Kit Ballard. But it's not like it had any effect on growing the scene near me any.)

Doesn't Swiftfox live down there?

Swiftfox lives in Houston, which is about a 5 hour drive away. It'd be awesome if he'd be willing to drive up to Arlington for some locals (or, alternatively, if there were any being hosted in Houston that I could drive down to), but I kinda doubt that's the case, especially given how young he is.

Sorry Cyn but more than often you live your username way too much.

I'm wondering why people only consider there scene to be those people that they play face to face on a regular basis.

Out here in au I consider the entire country my "scene" and I've only met face to face with Clarencemage. I don't even know what age looks
Like Or some of the newcomers
And I've been playing against age since first week of vanilla.

Tldr, you don't need people in your
City in order to have an Sg scene. All you need is people who's Connections are less than 120 Ping, that play you regularly...

That's your scene.

In terms of fun, Offline vs. Online is like eating ice cream vs. brussel srpouts (or, if you like brussel sprouts, replace with whatever vegetable you hate).

I'll still be doing Skullgirls fanart in 10-20 years. :)

In comparison, Perfect Dark was released in 2000 on the Nintendo 64 and died very shortly afterward because of all the new systems coming out at the time. Everything about Perfect Dark is outdated and/or outclassed by modern shooters and we still get fanart of that game every month or so.

Skullgirls on the other hand has plenty of life left and has more love from both the developers and the community.

Icky drives a car full of people like.. 3-4 hours every week for the Boston Game Underground weeklies plus whatever monthlies they have. Deer and (fuck i can't remember their new Val's name) are the first two consistent new players they've had in a long time, but hey that's two more bodies because everyone kept doing what they're doing. McPeanuts himself said that for several months his GU weeklies were literally him and one other dude just fighting for hours because no one else was there.

ChooseGoose drives 6 hours from OR to Vancouver and scoops every SG player along the way every other month or so, and makes the 3 hour drive from OR to Seattle every month for our Seattle anime monthly. We've had bigger/better Vancouver events, and more and more scalped players from other games playing SG on our setups at the Seattle monthlies every time. It helps.

It sounds like you've put in some work too.

Growth is never as fast as we'll want it, and it's always more effort than capcom/namco games, but if in one sitting you had people watching the game and two people that gave it an honest shot, that pattern grows your scene in a few months. Not to mention the real fun (which it seems you had) of playing folks offline, like Kit and Krye.

The other consideration is that as long as you have a handful of people, it doesn't need to be a huge scene for all of you to grow as players or have a really good time. Dallas had like.. maybe 5-6 really hardcore Tekken 4 players that stuck with it for tourney level play. The four of those guys that could make it to evo took half of Evo 2003's top 8 that year.

Hell, even look at Ken and Winnie. Those dudes have Xanadu players/events, but day-in-day-out, it's just them.

Sounds like the real issue is that you're not having fun playing this game.
I almost exclusively play online and can't even contain the amount of hype and fun that happens when I get crushed in QuickMatch.

I know I'm never gonna get tired of this game, and I think that's what really matters.
As long as people continue to love and play the game it'll never really die.

Skullgirls has become my comfort food of sorts - I play just about any new fighting game that pops up, but after three or four weeks I go back to Skullgirls until the next game comes out. I could see this process continuing for a few years even after the "final patch".

Yea it kinda stinks that there are some posts here that have nothing to do with the topic.

Omw to stream a thread about Skullgirls without playing the game.
Why are you talking about your stream here where it has nothing to do with the forum topic?
Please keep to the topic or just pm the people.

The thing about having more than just three of us is that eight players is a critical number for us to hit; the way Bar Fights has done side games is that any game that can get eight people willing to enter will get a "real" side tournament.

(I hear you on the driving to other cities thing; I really wish Austin and San Antonio ran their monthlies on weekends, instead of insisting on running them on Wednesdays and Thursdays... I could do the 3-4 hour drives if it was on a weekend, but on a weekday is impossible.)

(Also, christ I fucked up by not getting the Steam name of the KoF player [he mentioned that he played KoF on PC] who ran a set with me... hell, I didn't even mention him when I did my "mini write-up" in my training diary [the games I played with the former SDE player were better games, because he had some previous experience, and he played a runaway Peacock, so the undizzy differences didn't come into play as much]... a handshake and a "ggs" doesn't keep us in contact. Inadvertantly doing my part to kill SG, I guess :\)

What the fuck? Do you guys keep your shit off of SH too?

If it helps, you guys may be able to just host your own stuff that's more focused on SG at someone's house or a LAN place. I think most of the LAN places in Dallas were drying up, but there's gotta be anime stuff somewhere you can latch on to.

WAY TO KILL E-SPORTS, GUY >:(

It'll be fine, IMO. If locals keep happening (I'm Socal, so the scene is very much alive still), there is absolutely no reason for it to magically vanish. Being a moderator on IRC has let me notice that there's alot of people who would rather complain than play, but they really don't count in the long run anyways.

It is fully possible for this game to have a community as dedicated and prosperous as the Vampire Savior, Guilty Gear and Melty Blood communities so long as people just genuinely enjoy the game, and I know plenty of people who do, including myself.

also wow, some of you guys are some really depressing lamewads. jeezus

EDIT: Not really sparked up by any one post in this thread, but a recurring theme-- If you're saying the game is dead, why are you playing it. Please shut up. If you are playing it with people, it is not dead. This mentality is so immature it hurts.

EDIT 2: I didn't give an actual timeframe, sorry. I can predict it lasts for a least a year in my local area without any draining issues; After that, the ones who don't care will trickle down, and the ones who care will chill out and play all the games we like and become a goddamned community that [ranting here] doesn't whine, bitch and moan about every single change related to the game that they don't bother playing anyways oooo BURNNN [/ranting]

This is honestly where I see SG going, and I don't mean that in a bad way at all.

Wait a sec. Is there no "recently met" list on Steam? We went through hell getting those to work on console, I'd be surprised if there wasn't one on Steam. Or if there is (because it'd be kinda nuts NOT to have one) does SG not populate it? That would surprise me less.

It is there and it works perfectly, but I think he was talking about some KoF guy he met at his local and played matches with offline?

This.

What negative reputation does SH have in the wider SG community? What would it take to get people who don't like this place to join? If there's something wrong, we would like to address it, and change it if we can.
Remove the fan art page, the lore page, the yogurt flavor page etc.
I'm only 40% joking.

Omw to stream about how Skullgirls is dead without playing Skullgirls.
lmfao if you dont think super skullgirls rpg and fanfic night are the only thing holding this community together.

You're still advertising your stream when advertising has nothing to do with the topic at hand nor does your stream topic. If you want to talk about your stream then go do it in the video and stream thread not here.
Please stop spamming this thread with your advertisements before you get it shut down for it being derailed.
