@Some Person Talk to your teacher and see if you can take it a couple days early! Sometimes they are really flexible about that kind of thing esp if you want to do it earlier instead of later.

I would love to, except my teacher put on the syllabus, "There are NO 'early' or make-up exams-NO EXCEPTIONS", so the outlook there doesn't look too hot.

I can confirm most professors are totes cool with you taking finals early. NEC is almost always during finals week for me, but this is my last semester of college, and I don't have any finals the Monday I'm flying back, so I got lucky.

I don't like the idea of pre-registering before I know if I'll get that weekend off (I haven't submitted my request for time off yet), but should I in this case?

saaaaame. Worst case scenario would be me just going to the airport immediately after my final and chilling in PA hopefully without too much jet lag. Tho idk how well I'd perform if I were to go that route.
 
Man... what a day. Well, at least now we know there's just that much more incentive for the event. I know we can make this happen!

erm... in King of Prussia? Let me get back to you on that cause the Hotel is in middle of a highway... I think there might be a place nearby...

eh heh heh... yeah looked into it. Most of the places are either far into town or in Norristown which is right next to King of Prussia. So if someone is willing to drive, then it might be possible... i guess.

Now if you want to spend the night at really cool place you could Drive over to Phoenixville, only problem is that place is crazy during the weekends, Like I mean so crazy you are going to have to fight to get a free parking space (Imagine it's Philly if it was a shit ton cleaner, and it had an arts festival every friday to sunday.) There is a good bar there, and some restaurants/ pizza place. Shame that NEC is during the 11th, on the 5th Phoenixville is going to have their annual "Burning of the Phoenix" where they have a giant wooden statue of the magical bird burned and they have a huge after party. I remember going to the burning when I was a young kid and I was allowed to dance fairly close to it. Now a days you can't, they setup a fence around the thing.

There's a diner across the street that seems to have good cheesesteaks, although I think they kind of hate the SGC after SJ. IMO as someone who lives 30 minutes from philly, don't believe the hype of the popular places actually in the city. To me, a good cheesesteak is just coarsely chopped beef, decent bread, and a reckless abandonment for healthiness, which you can probably find all over the country. I can name a bunch of good places near me that I prefer over the popular places. I'm going to be driving to the venue each day since I live nearby, if you want I could pick you up what I consider my favorite cheesesteak from the pizza place right up the street from me. It won't be super fresh but it will still be delicious, guaranteed.

EDIT: forgot the venue changed, never mind about the diner.

So yeah, since I'm in the area I can drive down to Philly and car pool people over to the Hotel.
Mainly going to be using 422 south to 76 into Philly, sooooo if anybody is along that line, or if they are using a Plane or Bus into Philly I can toss down to you and nab you. If we're lucky I can pack 4 of you into the car.

Probably gonna be about that "30 minute cab ride for a legit cheesesteak" at SOME POINT during the weekend. However, I'm really just hoping there are some decent and cheap places to eat within walking distance from the venue. Shoutouts to walking 20 minutes to go eat at McDonalds at Combobreaker, but I don't want to be about that life again.

Actually, there's a Tony Luke's in the King of Prussia mall. If you they're at least PASSABLE, so go there if you don't wanna drive/get a cab further.

Man, what with the surprise cap for this event and how Big E treated us at TFC, I'm really losing my motivation to support his events.

to be fair, look at it from a TO perspective

(this is with regards to NEC btw, I have no idea what happened with TFC)

SG has apparently never broken 64 entrants at a Big E event before. For one reason or another he had to cap games (remember SG was not the only one), and he probably figured 64 was reasonable. AFAIK he doesn't read Skullheart or anything so he wouldn't know that a bunch of people were planning on coming to NEC and that the community was planning for it to be the "big east coast major", and even if he did that doesn't tell him anything in terms of numbers. From our numbers at his events, 64 made sense. We showed him that 64 was not enough so he raised it to 80, and I appreciate that. As far as the event experience, SJ is the only Big E event I've been to and although it wasn't that smooth, a lot of games had problems, it wasn't just SG being neglected.
 
80 seems like a strange number because it means byes in the bracket (at least 96 would be a round number). On the other hand, it means that we can get the extra bonus for filling the bracket easier and stuff. NEC will likely be bigger than SJ, but considering how SJ didn't reach 64 I can sort of see how he would think 80 is a reasonable limit anyway.
 
Here's the thing. SJ Big E got pissed, not with SG specifically, but with a lot of people in general. There were so many people who decided to not pre-reg that is completely screwed up a bunch of brackets, SG included (tho SG is kinda a special case b/c it wasn't an option at first)

64 at first probably sounded like a fair number to him because we usually drew somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 or so entrance, but he wanted to motivate people to pre-reg now so that late comers can reserve their bracket spot asap. This makes it easier on Big E, makes it easier on the TO, and makes it easier on the player. Now granted, some people don't know if they'll be able to make it to events, which is why planning ahead and organizing things should be something people should try to do more.

And it worked. Entrance shot up from 35 to 52 in a matter of minutes, due to fear that people might not have been able to enter on site. Extending the cap was due to this sudden surge, where Big E saw the numbers skyrocket and said ok maybe I should up that cap. Keep in mind also he is giving us another chance at that extra 500 pot bonus if we can hit that 80 mark, since we fell short on 64 for SJ. So before people start talking shit to Big E, try to see it from his side, where he doesn't have intimate knowledge of the SG scene, because he doesn't have intimate knowledge of a lot of scenes.

There's a difference between "reasonable frustration at people not pre-registering" and "denying that you were going to run a tournament that everybody saw you announce," though. TFC wouldn't have even happened if SonicFox hadn't muscled Big E into doing it. It's not Big E's first time treating us like shit, either? He's one of the TOs that's actively spat shit about the game on Twitter (and he did so just after we blew up NEC 2013). I'm happy the venue has changed, but seriously not cool with the treatment otherwise.

lmao I've been saying this since before I met you. But Big E events are where all the Skullgirls players go so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I want to make GUTS 4 huge for Skullgirls but it's tough when we don't know where/when it is yet

There's a high chance Skullgirls won't be at next year's Ceotaku due to the low number of entrants
