Forum Problems and Feature Requests

I know what the problem is, but I'd need to access the page in order to fix it. I'll keep you posted.

Can anyone confirm that the same behaviour is happening in the Wulf Den?

Ok, Dumb things are dumb and so I've disabled twitter auto-embeds. Pages should load fine now.

This forum needs an official stream scraper because too many times I tune in to a stream on here that's already dead.

If it's not too much trouble that would be really great.

Also need the option to be able to make new polls after the deadline of the original. It was kinda hell doing the Skulldate Voting when I had to make a post about it and hope the people see it

fem freq is closed too.

I'm not too sure how this would be implemented, or even if it's possible with the current events plugins. As it stands, it auto-scrapes periodically (but related to the number of people viewing the page, so essentially random) and the mods can all force the plugin to scrape as well by clicking a link. I'll have to have a think about potential solutions for this.

I feel your pain, but I'm not sure if there are any options out there. In the likely event that I can't find anything to improve this for you, I can only suggest that you use another site for voting and link to it in a thread here.
What's the deal with the games journalism forum? Is that coming back or are we locking it at the behest of one self-righteous prick?
Not something I have the ability or desire to interfere with.

Tried changing something with this. Try it out for a few days and let me know if it's better now.

Gaming Journalism and similar topics have been locked because it ends up turning into personal attacks.

We're not looking to have any new ones pop up, and if they do and we allow them, they'll be moderated much more strictly than the previous threads have been.

That didn't happen until a certain person got in and caused trouble. So thanks for punishing everyone for what one person did.

So this will be the last time I directly engage you. [Your posts have no substance.] In any case, here's hoping that "I'm done here." means what it means, but I've a feeling it doesn't.

You answered:
Oh you picked the wrong day the summon my inner bitch.

Let me just get this out of the way quickly.

Fuck you.

[..]

The last thing I need right now is yet another stuck-up, kool-aid drinking getting in my face and telling me I need to submit to their bullshit or go back to my "basement". So take your Kluweless crap and go back to fucking Gawker or SA or wherever the hell you came from. I've had enough people pushing me around in my life and believe me you little poo-flinger, I will push back ten times as hard.

Which one is the "one person" who "caused trouble"? You?

Clearly you did not read the entire incident or you would have noticed this person came into the conversation using a famous "nerd bashing" blog post to attack people who disagreed with him. It was clearly meant to incite an angry response and get the topic shut down. Considering that gamergate's opponents would see Lab Zero shut down and Skullgirls banned because "ZOMG! SEXISM!", I would think those in administration around here would see and understand that I was showing backbone against an obvious attempt to derail 56 pages of conversation which did include people on both sides of the argument. Obviously Spencer should have been punished and the conversation allowed to continue, but they obviously felt destroying a safe haven of discussion because one vitriolic hatemonger got in and started trouble was the easy way to go about it.

There's little point in starting new threads on this since they will obviously be immediately quashed the minute one person gets passionate about anything. I really do not appreciate you passing judgement on me without understanding the situation, but I'm not at all surprised by it.

It's still rather unfortunate...

Unfortunate, but typical of your standard draconian method of forum moderation. I didn't think my general opinion of community management could get any lower but...

Click Report; don't feed the trolls?

You know that's the kind of thing I got told in school when people used to tease me and beat me up. Unfortunately, people in authority just didn't actually care and they let it go on. So I got bullied more and more and more.

- Guy comes into your thread, saying things you don't like, perhaps in a wrong manner
- Instead of reporting it, explaining that this thread is /kind of sensible/ and arguments quickly turn bad with a deletion request, you lash back
- Guy then says "Oh well I'm done with you, let's just ignore each other"
- You toss forward 3 paragraphs of insults

Thread gets closed, ILLUMINATI MODS!!!!!!!!!!!

Shrug

Awesome, let's try it your way...

I'm sure you expect us to take this conversation to twitter because you don't want to deal with the problem of people who cause trouble, or whatever other reason is being passed off. Of course the problem with going on twitter is that it has all the effectiveness of speaking in the middle of a crowded mall, packed shoulder to shoulder and if you aren't shouting the exact same thing as thousands of others than no one is going to hear what you have to say.

Perhaps we weren't really reaching as many people with our thoughts, but at least on some level that thread allowed us to feel like we were being heard and that someone was listening to us. Even if it was just a couple of people. I suppose that is not important in comparison to appeasing one self-centered jerk, but if the internet has taught me anything over the years it's that the bully will always win. He will win because he will always have the powers that be on his side, whether through intimidation or collusion.

Don't bother getting pissy with me over this, I'm not going to post anymore about it. Marginalization is something I've come to expect in my life.

END OF LINE

im pretty sure that was the point of the old one, and it got out of hand. . . so lets not go down that path again

But it was pretty good BEFORE this happened, right? what about just news updates and such, like a gaming magazine, you know? Just articles, and if anyone posts chicken porn like that one guy did on my thread, you just report it, and move along! I may just be idealistic, but I think it's worth a shot! If I could get that to work peacefully, would you let me do it?

probably not because it would turn into a shitstorm

How about give the game jurno thread a week, of it decomposes, lock it. If good discussion and stuff happens, open it.

I think the warning that was ignored in that thread is enough reason to not do that

How do I add comments on my tournament post for jam session?

I'm not sure what you are asking for. Can you provide a link to the thing you want to comment on?

Putting a direct link to the SG IRC would be good.

Feature request: site-wide announcement with hyperlink to essential Skullgirl stream. Specifically the Rebel Up! or Salty streams that often feature updates and announcements. Have it up all day and during the stream to funnel viewers to it. Once the stream ends, the message disappears.

Example:
[ Stream Alert 1 Nov. 2014, 8PM PST Tonight! Rebel Up! featuring Skullgirls updates on SuperDojo ]

Remember when Cellsai's Eliza costume pose contest was going on? There were unobtrusive text boxes at the top of the page telling people the deadline was approaching. Anywhere on Skull Heart you go, you would see it. I'd like one for the stream, whichever one it will be. I'm not hip and "with it" enough to keep track. I don't really know when exactly the updates appear in each stream.

Every Friday and Saturday I have to hunt down a News thread (like this one by Flotilla for instance) and try a couple links. Rebel Up and Salty! alternate each week, and sometimes take a week off.

Rebel Up = every other Saturday @ 4PM PST on SuperDojo
Salty! = every other Friday @ 8PM PST on UGClive

By no means an ordeal, but for convenience sake of the clueless, and for the greater awareness of these important streams, is this a feasible request?
