Moderator Problems and Rule Clarification Requests

I think a better way to keep the thread neat is to have people PM you their info instead of posting in the thread. Mod actions aren't supposed to be made simply by request, so there's really no reason to delete the posts in your thread.

Also, the report function is meant for rule breaks, not so we can tidy your thread up for you. Please don't abuse the report function like this.

Is there a way to make it so only I can post in the thread then? I would have done it like that from the start if I had known. I kind of want this to be a resource, so yeah.

edit: I do NOT want to use mods in a petty way, but I think that a cleanup request is not out of the question. I want this to be a tidy, informative resource that new forum goers can see and use easily. I find it a little ridiculous that my request is so fargone that no mods will help. I will stop reporting posts in this way, but this only furthers my disappointment with SH staff. I try my best to be reasonable and good to community in general. Every now and then I make mistakes, or have some kind of "Non-SH Staff approved fun." I'm not perfect. But man, I am sometimes simply dumbfounded at the lack of human decency that comes forth from the responses and measures involved from the mod team. I can understand some things, but a lot of the time I end up just thinking, man, what are THEY thinking...

edit2: also, I understand the concept of if a mod lets one thing slide or be corrected in a "non-approved", whats to stop the floodgates of other people asking for random bullshit. But I try to at least give decent reasons and thought out responses to what I request. It's not like a lot of other random forum goers that just ask for shit without a thought or explanation as to why. These situations make me incredibly frustrated ; ;

It's not that mods haven't been helping you, they have, and tidying up threads that go off-topic etc. is part of mod duties, but I'm just making the point that it's a bit excessive to have a mod come in every 5 minutes to delete new posts in a thread you're trying to compile. Mods aren't always available to do that kind of thing. Also, mods technically have no obligation to do that since there are no rule breaks in your thread, but some have helped you out because they agree with what you're trying to do, which is fine.

I'm just saying try not to expect the mods to be at your beck and call to get every post removed as soon as you're done with them. That's the impression I'm getting with the report abuse and it's unfairly demanding IMO.

You can find the list of mods in the Forum Rules 2.0 thread. Everyone is listed with their respective area that they mod.

I'm pretty sure the thread starter can still edit the first post even if it's locked.

It's not that. Your initial response had me believing that I would get no help in this matter from anyone, which had me (reasonably I think) upset.

I'm sure mods will be more willing to help if you'd respect their role

I respect what's there, but that does not mean there is isn't room for improvement. Read the rest of the thread to hear some of my problems. Understaffing is my biggest pet peeve.

Hey to be fair that is an improvement compared to his last title believe it or not. Also personally don't care about what x person has for their title as long as it doesn't violate the rules somehow.

I'm fairly new to SH, so sorry for posting this here, if it seems naïve. I don't know which mod I would need to PM about this, so I hope this is fine.

I'd like to make a general "Digital Art" thread where artists can discuss what tablets/programs they use, since SH seems to have a decent amount of artists on here, considering the art blogs, and I can't seem to find a thread similar to this on the forum. If there is please just disregard this
Now, my two questions are this: is this a thread like this allowed? Is there some kind of limit to how vague or SG related the posts need to be?
Secondly, would this belong in the Art section or the Off-Topic section? I'd assume the Art sub-topic, but I'd prefer this to not be strictly Skullgirls-related art.

Sounds like that would be something to go under Hardware/Software.

Responding to an insult
there's.....there's no way you can possibly get lamer. there's no way.
with snark gets your permabanned now?

I mean of course the guy is a troll - but:
1) He stays in one thread (not a very harmful one)
2) posts 90% "on topic" in that thread (better than most serious users!)
3) the thread is utter shit anyway (there is no debate on that one)
4) HE stays largely civil? (Unlike other people, which the mods never gave a shit about*)

*here are some base examples:
you still suck
He's an idiot.
As well as of course the countless posts of "I have him on ignore" "He's a troll" blabla anytime he posts

I mean I suppose you could argue that it betters the forum climate to have one less troll on the board,
but when it's about a guy who stays in a single thread that by definition is nothing but garbage, it seems a bit silly?

Sounds like that would be something to go under Hardware/Software.
Sounds to me more like it would just go into OT?

Not the Art section, which is about posting Art and strictly about SG
And the Hardware section is in "Dr Avian's Lab", the same section as Bug Reports / Beta Discussion + all threads in there right now are obviously SG related (about how to stream it, what laptop to buy for it, which controller to use, etc)

If the Hardware/Software Section wasn't SG-Only, then if I want to open a thread about New-Videogame-X, where do I post it?
In gaming, as it's a game, or in H/S, as it's Software? This seems unnecessarily confusing.

I would post a thread such as that in the OffTopic subforum, or PERHAPS try to sneak it into Art, as the users of that subforum are the most likely to be able to help. Hardware/Software makes no sense at all to me.

OK, then put it in off-topic.

Isa until i have the option that i can ignore that certain thread from appearing on "recent threads" then he can hold that L dude.

Edit: Goddamn you didn't have to super ban da dude!

Oh and I forgot to respond to the end of that last discussion I had

See when I first saw this message the thought that crossed my mind was "This is either a vague cryptic VN refererence, this is just common OT shit-posting that the forum is greatly familiar with, or even this was a legitimate mistake because the post could have been in the wrong thread".
Look, the course of action to take when something of this sort happens is *IMO* to send a PM to the respective user;
"Please clarify what Post X is for, currently it looks to me like just some stupid image macro and would go against the rules of the forum".

It's a 99% harmless post which, if it happens to go against the rules, can still be deleted a few hours later (after I either refuse to respond, or answer with "Nah was just a joke", or etc).
It's not like that thing was suddenly threatening to kill a super active thread or what have you~

If you properly revise the deleted post then it should be fine if you still care about this issue.
I don't know how I would revise it in a way that it's "allowed" but retains what it is supposed to be - nor does it make sense anymore, since I publicly posted the explanation.
A "random" picture which someone manages to link to what it references is likely a 'legit' discussion starter.
The same picture with the text message "WHAT VN DOES THIS REFERENCE??? CAN YOU GUESS??" leads to people googling. Not my cup of tea.

I imagine you would care though since you saw the need to publicly announce this 'injustice' here in the first place.
No, I don't really care about the post. I made it, thought it was decent, it got deleted, big deal. I am not very invested in it.
I saw the need to publicly announce this 'injustice' to point fingers at moderators who delete on-topic posts - simply because they don't understand them;
rather than at least giving me a chance to explain the purpose via PM (or am I so "known" for posting random offtopic images in threads that the Mod team just figured this was another such occurrence??)
I posted this not because I care about the restoration of the post, but to say "Hey mod team, I disagree with this course of action, please consider acting differently in the future".

The Rage Quit thread is pretty much useless without Dementia. He's a nasty person yeah but on Steam, here not so much.
Last I knew it's not against the rules to lie. That's all he does here. He lies

Alright, thank you.

I need to make an inquiry about an inquiry :3

I wanted to make a thread/post questioning/discussing one of the rules on this site that I disagree with, but since everything is listed as "inquiry" or "question" I have no idea where to post it. Or is discussing rules not allowed?

You're already in the thread to bring up such a subject.

Alright. About "no media dump threads"

I think that there should be some reconsidering on this rule. Especially for off topic game discussion. Video game music sharing, video game artwork sharing, are pretty much universal on every other forum. I could probably browse any other forum and find a slew of "share your flavor of the month game music" threads, as well as similar thread for artwork, any other game related media.etc.

I know "everyone else is doing it" is not a good argument, but the reason everyone else is doing it is because media is an incredibly important part of gaming that deserves sharing and discussion as much as any other topic. And it really can't take place efficiently in any other type of thread. Is it worth it to make a thread about some obscure pc-98 import rpg because I found out one of my favorite game musicians did some tracks for it? Probably not.

Whether they "don't encourage discussion" seems pretty irrelevant to me: It's very easy to start a discussion about such media, which leads to sharing ideas and more media, but even if no one does, it's still a form of communication and sharing.

Overall I think this rule is really pointless, at least when it comes to obviously gaming related media, and the forum would benefit if it was reconsidered.

At any rate, if this rule can't be changed, reconsidered, or made exception to, would it be okay if I made a thread on off topic called "Game music discussion and sharing" which would (strongly) encourage users to post their current fave game soundtracks as well as discuss musicians, tastes in the medium, etc.?

is unpopular opinions thread still not allowed to come back?

is unpopular opinions thread still not allowed to come back?
That's never coming back. (see "no opinionated threads" rule)

Alright. About "no media dump threads"
People can discuss music, games, etc. in Off-Topic, but if your thread becomes "Hey, i like this thing, here it is" or "post your favourite thing" And the entire thread is just video embeds or images or whatever, then that is a media dump thread and only promotes filler posting, not actual discussion.

Actually, I just got finished bugging the Movie Discussion Thread about not becoming a media dump thread, so I will give you a chance with this.

As long as the thread actually contains meaningful discussion that whatever media related to it complements the discussion, then it will be fine. If it turns into a series of post with nothing but video embeds and hardly any discussion, then it has become a media dump thread and will be locked. Try not to fill up the pages too much with embeds as that slows down loading times. Also use spoilers when necessary.

The point of the rule is to remove filler posting, as detailed in the rule thread for OT. Simply spamming media is filler posting. Same thing for forum games.

And just to note, I am saying this is OK for now, but Number 13 has the final say on this as he is the one in charge of Off-Topic.

That's never coming back. (see "no opinionated threads" rule)

What about the "unpopular gaming opinions" thread. I specifically made that last year because I wanted to make a topic for discussing obscure/niche game related issues that was less involved with "hot button" issues than the all purpose "unpopular opinion" thread whatshisname made. I think the conversation there was generally a lot more civil and discussion based.

People can discuss music, games, etc. in Off-Topic, but if your thread becomes "Hey, i like this thing, here it is" or "post your favourite thing" And the entire thread is just video embeds or images or whatever, then that is a media dump thread and only promotes filler posting, not actual discussion.

Alright, thanks. My only worry is that people might not bother to actually respond with discussion but just media dump themselves, which I can't really control. I will try to at least include some thoughts with any post I make.

Just gonna add that a "Game Music Discussion/Share" is fine assuming OP makes it clear that thread isn't just about embedding YT videos and calling it a day.

Media dumping threads for videos/images/.etc are also not allowed because they promote next to no discussion. You are still allowed to post videos/images/etc [obviously no image macros], but they have to complement the thread discussion. The dumping can't be the main 'discussion' if you're still confused.

If thread is gonna devolve to something like this then the thread will be in danger of mod action. Something like the currently existing anime/manga thread is fine because there is regular discussion happening even with media being posted.

I volunteer Caio as mod. Now time to fight to the death in the mod games where two mods from every section fight to the death.

To add to my case, both players are incredibly active, write quality posts, respond directly but generally friendly towards others, and have a clear understanding of forum rules.

This probably doesn't matter much for moderation (even though it is a gameplay forum) but both are also unquestionably high level players.

Didn't want to post this in the other thread because I don't think it's a Vad thing

http://combobreaker.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Schedule_Final_hr2.png this (shortened by bit.ly or w/e) and some Info should probably be the current header thingie for the forum (where last week eg it said "Sorry if you didn't receive EMails")
Quick stuff like this I'm happy to do, unfortunately I saw it too late. If the stream goes back up before top8 finishes then I'll put a banner up.

Gotta say, I disagree with locking this thread.

Granted, some of the suggestions people gave were quite absurd and unrealistic, but it was a good dumping place for all the "I want to state what I'd like to see in to Skullgirls while acknowledging it has no chance to be implemented, don't worry!"

That said, I think this might backfire, as that suggesting drive is and will be in people, and locking the thread only means it will spill into other ones. I'd say it's better to keep it all in one place.

I propose @Cellsai be removed from his position as moderator of the art forums and replaced, because he does not fulfill the needs of the forum's moderation. Because of his lifestyle, he takes frequent absences from the art forums, which often results in many art forum threads being derailed and rules being broken. Even as of this post, he has not been active on Skullheart in seven days.

Evidence of his negligence:
I was not around from late December until early February. All of that first stuff went down when I was unable to get to use the forum and I decided it was better to resume moderation from when I got back online instead of delving back through all the threads punishing people for stuff I would have stopped had I been active. You'll notice that as soon as I start posting again around February 15th I immediately start shutting down the Squigly 'discussions'.

My absence did mean there was basically no one around to moderate the Art and Non-Gameplay Character forums, which was a bad situation and I apologize to everyone involved. That issue that has since been dealt with by having a bigger overlap between myself and @WayForger to share duties in The Gallery if either of us ever disappear again.
Cellsai has stated before that he is the only moderator on staff with power to control the art forums, so in his absence, moderation and rules cease to exist. He has failed his duties as a moderator on multiple occasions, and for this reason he should be removed from staff and replaced immediately. The forums deserve a moderator who is actually available to moderate, after all.

Yeah a moderator who has not been on for 7 days should be removed because he has a life great idea!

It doesn't matter if he has obligations outside the forum, someone has to be available to have an obligation to it. Why would it be a bad thing to have someone on staff who can commit more? Wouldn't that be better for everyone?

@Meow-Professor Is glad that she can finally help with the Forum moderation problems. Expect some (hopefully) good moderation from her in the future.

He is bound to one section of the forums. (Beginner Section)
He can't moderate in the art section.
